Botzu's Quick Evaluation

+ An extremely resilient Dollkeeper with skills focused on DPS and preventing death
+ Provides AOE dps and crowd control when substituted
+ Part of a growing list of operators that provide buffs for abyssal hunters
+ S2: Great damage boosts with one of the longest undying effects in the game, long enough to handle most enemies.
+ S3: Huge HP and ATK books, turns her attacks into AOE and deals a conditional bonus hit. Can be paired with Gladia to make her extremely durable.
- S2: Requires timing, as she substitutes at the end of the skill. Poor uptime unless you use and upgrade her module that provides SP after substitute.
- S3: The bonus hit condition often requires you to maintain low HP %.

Operator Overview

“You chose a dangerous way to learn of the Abyssal Hunters and our enemies, Doctor. With nothing but your delicate body, the tides will drown you. But at the same time, you can count your lucky stars, because I invite you to hide behind me.”

Specter’s long convalescence at Rhodes Island has led to actual improvements in her physical and mental state. From a dazed, amnesiac buzzsaw-murderer, she is slowly reverting to her natural state: a calm, confident, artistic, affable buzzsaw-murderer. Good to know some things never change! Even as Specter the Unchained has changed from a 5* Centurion Guard to a 6* Dollkeeper Specialist, she still occupies the same space of turning immortal and grinding up multiple enemies at a time into a bloody paste, with the addition of AoE Slow and Arts damage from her substitute form.

As a Dollkeeper rather than a Centurion, Specter the Unchained (aka Spalter or, even better, Splatter) can only Block-2 and attack one enemy at a time. On the other hand, when her HP hits 0, her Embraced Self Talent switches her into a second form where she begins to sing a haunting AEgir elegy that inflicts Arts damage and Slow on all nearby enemies. (Think of her like one of those annoying blue Nervous Impairment jellyfish from the Stultifera Navis event.) After several seconds, Splatter will get tired of singing and pull out her seashell buzzsaw again, ready to wreak more terror and bloodshed.

Specter the Unchained uses her Skills to get closer to her substitute form, like other members of the archetype. However, in true Specter form, she does it in unusual ways. Her S1, The Skill to Survive, swaps her HP percentage with the lowest-HP ally within range and then gives Splatter an ATK buff. (Yes, you can use this on an S3-ing Surtr. It doesn’t work as well as you might hope, but it IS fun.) Her S2, The Thirst to Survive, is the “immortality” Skill, granting bonus ATK and ASPD and also preventing Splatter’s HP from falling below 1, much like vanilla Specter’s S2. The trick: once the duration ends, Splatter immediately swaps to her substitute. Her S3, The Pressure to Survive, breaks down class barriers and temporarily turns Splatter back into a Centurion Guard. She gains max HP and ATK, the ability to attack all blocked enemies, and bonus damage when attacking enemies with a higher HP percentage than her own. When attacking an enemy with a lower HP percentage than her own, Splatter will lose HP instead, putting her closer to that bonus damage (and also closer to her substitute form). As a final note, like other members of her team, Splatter also buffs all allied Abyssal Hunters—her AEgir’s Depths E2 Talent grants bonus max HP to Abyssal Hunters while Splatter is in the squad.

The major drawback with Specter the Unchained is simply how much investment she demands. If you thought Centurion Guards were needy because they needed to be E2’d before they can perform, Specter the Unchained blows them all out of the water. Without a fully upgraded module, Specter the Unchained is on par or even worse than her vanilla 5* version. That’s not an exaggeration. Without a module, Splatter has worse cycling time, no helidrop potential, lower Block, and a practically useless substitute form… for 6* investment costs. She’s simply not worthwhile until you upgrade one of her two modules to max.

The good news is, once you upgrade Specter the Unchained’s PUM-X or PUM-Y modules, she becomes the monster that Arknights lore claims she is. Splatter’s PUM-X module is a dramatic improvement to her substitute form, granting increased damage and Slow to her substitute and a burst of free SP when reverting back to Splatter from the substitute. The PUM-Y module is a ridiculous boost to the AEgir’s Depths Talent, greatly increasing the HP buff and adding SP generation to the mix. If you’re a big fan of Abyssal Hunter teams or Splatter’s S3, then PUM-Y is the way to go; otherwise, PUM-X is a terrific buff to Splatter’s S2.

It takes a ridiculous amount of resources to E2 Specter the Unchained and then max out one of her module upgrades to unlock her true power. Think of it as the time that vanilla Specter had to spend without memory of her true self. But once the gates have been unlocked and Specter truly becomes Unchained, none will doubt her strength again.

Newbie Tier List Explanation

Her "Undying" S2 can provide some utility for new players, but her 5* version can provide it at a cheaper development cost. better than the other members of her Archetype, and can provide some interesting options at E1 for a limited roster, but overall likely won't make a huge impact nor be a good E2 option until well into the game (since she requires heavy module investment to shine). At a 6 Star development cost, most new players will be better off spending those resources elsewhere.

* Note that these skills are graded assuming the unit has at least one Module level 3. If you do NOT plan to get this unit's upgraded Module(s), treat the priority of these skills significantly lower. Priority depends on the Module. See the write up below for more details.

More than any other unit, Specter the Unchained's Mastery priority depends on if and which Module you upgrade for her. With only her base kit, there just isn't any value when compared to her 5★ form. Specter’s base kit is very mediocre and would only garner B or C-tier grades; however, both Modules are excellent and have differing niches that influence the grades. In particular if using PUM-X, favor S2. For PUM-Y, favor S3. Keep this in mind when deciding where to invest.

Supposing you do plan to get at least one of her upgraded Modules, Specter the Unchained is a worthy M6 consideration with the better first target (and Module) depending on how you want to use her. The generally better option would be to go with her S2 and PUM-X Module upgrades. This setup improves upon the invulnerability niche of her base form, while also making her a very effective lane holder. With the heavy snare and damage improvements on her doll from PUM-X that help stop leaks, and much improved cycle time on her invulnerability, she can excel in the role in a way few others can. S2 Mastery is very important here, representing large improvements to her cycle time and DPS.

Her S3 is a bit of a tricky skill. It is her DPS skill, and taken on its own and in the context of similar DPS skills on other 6★s, it has quite poor numbers. If she can't trigger the HP threshold condition, it performs worse than her 5★ form and without the invulnerability or 3-block. However, her second Module, PUM-Y, gives a pretty significant upgrade to her S3. It markedly improves S3 cycle time while also making her more bulky, which helps avoid her weak doll effect. This combos especially well with Gladiia's upcoming Module, which furthers her bulk. With PUM-Y and S3M3, Specter can maintain close to 50% uptime on a high DPS skill while being nigh unkillable to all but the biggest threats. Mastery also represents a well above average DPS increase for her, so don't skimp out if you plan to use her for that DPS role.

Profile

Specter, real name Laurentina, is a member of the 'Abyssal Hunters,' an Ægir military squad. She has demonstrated extreme proficiency in operations such as taking down large-scale organisms and destroying hard targets.
After the 'Stultifera Navis' incident, her mental state and mood began to stabilize, and her memories returned.

Clinical Analysis

Increase Trust to 25.
Imaging tests show the indistinct outlines of internal organs, obscured by abnormal shadows. Originium granules detected in the circulatory system. The subject is confirmed to be infected with Oripathy.

[Cell-Originium Assimilation] 14.5%
It has been determined that the source of her nerve infection is due to excessive amounts of Originium concentrate that was forcibly injected into her spinal cord. Current medical technology is unable to deal with this condition, so this operator can only be administered minimal conservative treatment.

[Blood Originium-Crystal Density] 0.34 u/L
The Originium infection progress is extremely slow, and even if this does not conform to our common sense, it is still a welcome thing. We speculate that the reason for this phenomenon may be related to the transformation that Abyssal Hunters undergo.

Operator Specter's medical files have been moved to an extremely high-clearance database. We ask that relevant medic operators maintain strict confidentiality.

After the tides of her hometown called her memories and personality back to her, Specter quickly came to accept what had happened to her during her amnesiac period. For a free and easy person like her, having another 'self' was not a bitter pill to swallow. Rather, her mad 'self' merely provided Specter with another angle from which to understand things, greatly broadening her horizons. In this regard, Specter is quite satisfied, although she occasionally regrets that her 'self' was unable to use the inspiration of madness on the right path. As for now, she has ample time to process and digest the impact her 'self' has on her surroundings, Rhodes Island, and other operators. The suspicion and bewilderment on the faces of the operators who had contact with her before brought her no shortage of novelty and amusement.

Operator Specter's mental state has continued to stabilize as of now, and in theory, the probability of her main persona being replaced again is extremely low. However, during fierce combat, or certain situations that cause her to have intense outbursts of emotion, certain sudden changes to her behaviors have been observed. We cannot say for sure whether this is a relapse of her condition, or if Specter is deliberately imitating her past self in search of 'inspiration.' We recommend continuing closely monitoring the operator's mental state as much as possible.

Unlike the elusive Gladiia or the reclusive Skadi, Specter is not only the most approachable Abyssal Hunter, but also the only one who will offer brief descriptions of Ægir for others. After chatting with her, many operators got their first glimpse into this mysterious deep-sea country.
In Specter's own words, in the ocean far from land's shores lies a utopian country: there is no Originium, the people do not have to worry about survival, and citizens are assigned to work where they are best suited according to their personal abilities. Light covers the bottom of the sea, and each transparent dome carves out a small piece of paradise. Everyday life is filled with various automatic equipment, and almost all mechanized manual labor is completed by high-end technological products. As a whole, the society is even more ideal than the images conceived in Terra's most cutting-edge science fiction novels.
Specter's descriptions undoubtedly satisfied most operators' conception of an exotic, far-flung country, and they naturally ignored the things she mentioned far less often: the immense pressure that the Seaborn posed to the survival of the Ægir people, and the destruction wrought upon Ægir by the Seaborn's followers.
The Abyssal Hunters invariably face the same problems on land that they did beneath the waves.
But due to their lack of manpower, the Abyssal Hunters are unable to change anything. In the face of the scourge of the seas that cannot be completely driven out even with the Ægir's science and technology, what can the land-dwellers' puny technology accomplish?
This is the Abyssal Hunters' status quo. Gladiia has long been concerned about this, and Specter is well aware of it.
Having that said, she has no reservations about cooperating with her friends on land. This is not due to some calculus based on ability or practicality, but rather because on an emotional level, she feels that fighting with these soft, vulnerable companions might make miracles.
That is the reason she leads the charge into enemy lines, her chainsaw's battle-dance opening up the slimmest of chances for her friends.
After all, she already created a chance for Skadi's team to kill a so-called 'Him.'
Why can't she do it again?

The operators who take care of Specter on Rhodes Island have found that she tends to stare at sculptures or paintings for a period of time in complete silence. And once Specter returns to herself and expresses her thoughts on these things, the operators finally come to understand that it was her inherent love of art that soothed the scars on her psyche.
For Specter, art was the expectation bestowed upon her by Ægir society, as well as her own life's pursuit. Thanks to the nature of her parents' work, she had access to Ægir's bountiful art collection since a young age. Among the various art mediums, sculpture left an indelible imprint within Specter. She still remembers that snow-white sculpture. The moment she laid eyes on it, time seemed to stand still the clock's hand refused to turn. She indulged in the eternal giant displayed before her, coming to realize what true art and beauty is. To this day, she does not understand the idea behind the creation's sculptor, nor has she seen that statute again. However, all the emotional expressivity carried in that piece of stone have long found a home in her heart, and she hopes that one day she can become a sculptor acknowledged by Ægir. One day, she, Laurentina, will be able to create her own sculptures.
If she had not become an Abyssal Hunter.

Specter's metamorphosis from a sculpture apprentice into an Abyssal Hunter may appear to be an accident to some; however, what they do not know is that Ægir's technology and institutions can ensure that their chosen personnel will never deviate from the basic needs of their post. Because of this, citizens generally do not refuse when summoned by state institutions such as the Abyssal Hunters. Specter completed her metamorphosis with ease, quickly mastered what she was trained for, and officially became an Abyssal Hunter, hunting Seaborn along with Gladiia. Thus, her obsession with beauty turned into a deep hatred of the Seaborn. It may be the case that Seaborn evolve into striking forms that leave people awestruck, but this cannot be considered beauty - rather, it is more of a byproduct of evolutionary needs. The Ægirians' most ingenious creations are useless pieces of artifice in these creatures' eyes, a perspective that Specter could not tolerate. The 2nd Abyssal Hunter team to which she belonged was once responsible for clearing out a large Seaborn lair: an entire city that had fallen into the sea, its various buildings turned into breeding nests. When she saw the colors bleeding from torn oil paintings and the desecrated stone statues covered with nests, she no longer had any reservations in her heart about slaying the Seaborn.
Now that civilization has encountered vermin, Specter is more than happy to play the role of exterminator.
Through their deaths, Ægir's survival is forged.

'Quintus, the one you ran circles around, is probably the least worth talking about among the bunch.'
'He couldn't see anything outside of the experiments, living inside a dreamscape he wove for himself, single-mindedly power-hungry and conceited.'
'So, it wasn't hard to deal with him, right?'
'Mm, next one.'
'Amaia, that damn Liberi. You probably saw her on that Iberian ship.'
'Elegant, and far more dangerous.'
'That's right. She was in charge of recording down my mental state and providing feedback after the experiment. Given how knowledgeable and accomplished she was, it's a pity she was so well-suited for this job.'
'She might've treated me the nicest among the experimenters, but you know what, Gladiia? She never actually liked me. In fact, she had a lot of things to say about the way we refused to follow nature's ordained trajectory.'
'Hmph.'
'In the end, becoming food for the Seaborn perhaps was what suited her heart best. Alas, for someone like her, Terra's future only has enough room for the Seaborn.'
'It's not hard to find crazed cultists like her along the coast.'
'As for the last guy, he... he wasn't a bishop.'
'Hmm?'
'All I remember is, he was the one who carried out the experiment's procedure... Nngh...'
'Are you alright, Laurentina?'
'I'm fine, I'm fine... Just getting some phantom pains...'
'He rarely showed himself except to conduct the operations... The cultists seemed to call him... 'Sire'...'
''Sire,' huh? I'll remember that.'
'Quintus and Amaia are both dead. That guy will probably be watching his back a lot more carefully from now on.'
'You don't need to worry, Laurentina.'
'I will deal with this scourge.'

Appointed as Assistant Doctor, if you want me to talk to you, then at leaaast give me some topics I can show interest in.
Talk 1 Doctor, don't blame me for having no interest in your grand endeavors. To be honest, the reason I became an Abyssal Hunter is hardly as lofty as you imagine. Abyssal Hunters bear a grave mission, but me? I just think the life suits me more, that's all.
Talk 2 You want to know about my life in Ægir...? After so much time, my childhood memories are a bit of a blur. Maybe I'll remember a thing or two by telling you about it. Originally, I was meant to be a sculptor...
Talk 3 My combat style shows no restraint compared to the past? Doctor, I think you might be misunderstanding me. If you call me mad, I'll take it as an insult. But if you call my combat style mad... I'll take that as a commendation.
Talk after Promotion 1 Hark... to the boundless master of all creation, embraced by darkness, murmuring soliloquy... Let me take a stab, Doctor. Maybe you like the old me rather more than the present me? I'll be honest, I've got a soft spot for that me too. It's nice to be so pure, isn't it?
Talk after Promotion 2 Doctor, you always worry so much. Do something for me, tear this sheet up, yes, just like that. Sometimes, things aren't so complicated. Survival is splitting everything in your way in two. It's just that simple.
Talk after Trust Increase 1 *Sigh* Doctor, I'm dying to get you visiting our city. That's the only way you can understand how tender my comment is on the life quality of Rhodes Island. It's a shame your body'd be too delicate for it. All the more shame I don't even know whether our city still exists.
Talk after Trust Increase 2 Even if I've got a list of gripes about Rhodes Island, you people haven't abandoned the collection and preservation of art. I can retract all my criticisms just for that. Doctor, forget your job for a moment. This, is a work you shouldn't miss, not in a lifetime.
Talk after Trust Increase 3 You want to hear me sing? Of course I can indulge you. But I'm so sorry, singing has a special significance to us that you just can't share, not being one of us. Doctor, Doctor, it vexes me that I have so many things I want to share with you. Just how could I convey them to you?
Idle May you too stay lucid in your dreams.
Onboard I recognize you, and you recognize me. We don't need all those boring introductions. But you still don't know me, and I still don't know you. If I recall correctly, dry-landers use simple enough means to get to know each other, so let's get communicating.
Watching Battle Record Are you trying to tell me… my combat style should be more 'fit-in?'
Promotion 1 For politeness's sake, I accept your commendation. But, to us Abyssal Hunters, combat is the means we have to master to survive. We don't need applause or flowers for it.
Promotion 2 You chose a dangerous way to learn of the Abyssal Hunters and our enemies, Doctor. With nothing but your delicate body, the tides will drown you. But at the same time, you can count your lucky stars, because I invite you to hide behind me.
Added to Squad Shall the hunt begin?
Appointed as Squad Leader Just let me think, whether you are here to help, or to trouble me like a whelp.
Depart It's high tide.
Begin Operation The time for fun has now begun.
Selecting Operator 1 My patience is limited, Doctor.
Selecting Operator 2 Waiting is its own art, too.
Deployment 1 Every battle deserves to be enjoyed.
Deployment 2 I'm in a... gorgeous mood right now!
In Battle 1 Good morning.
In Battle 2 Good night.
In Battle 3 I'm not yet satisfied.
In Battle 4 Come, more, more!
4-star Result We might not define danger the same way, but I'm willing to respect the genuine joy of others.
3-star Result Do we have a ballad of victory? Yes, but not now. We're still a long way from true victory, aren't we?
Sub 3-star Result Incompletion has its own beauty. That's how you're comforting yourself, isn't it?
Operation Failure I'm to blame too for placing my trust in you. But don't worry, I'll bear the responsibility together with you.
Assigned to Facility You want to hear my opinion of this landship? You'll be disappointed.
Tap Oh? I knew it was you.
Trust Tap You've got a strong hunger for knowledge, but it lacks direction at times, Doctor.
Title Arknights.
Greeting I hope you have a meaningful day today, Doctor.
