Wildly Successful Gacha Shooter Transitioning to 3D in the West

2017 Yostar Games release Azur Lane, which became a smash hit in the mobile market, will be seeing its 3D adaptation hit the West. Idea Factory International announced recently that Azur Lane: Crosswave will be arriving in the West on PS4 and Steam in February 2020. Crosswave, which released earlier this year in Japan, is a bottom-up retrofit of the original gacha shooter, now a cel-shaded 3D action shooter built using Unreal Engine.

The game will feature a total of 4 modes:

  • Story mode, which basically mirrors the original game

  • Extreme Battle mode, which allows for special challenge encounters with ultra-tough and rare fleets

  • Photo mode, which allows players to pose characters and choose expressions and backgrounds in order to recreate and capture their favorite scenes

  • Episode mode, which includes 50+ sub-stories that expand on the backgrounds of their featured characters
