Meta Shift: Champa & Vados

Overview

Update after update, the Tournament of Power is becoming more and more of a thing in Dragon Ball Legends. Not many expected Vados and Champa to be representative of that Tag, since they really didn’t have a relevant role during that arc, but them having the Universe Survival Arc Tag and Buffing Rival Universe specifically, makes the new Step Up banner a natural continuation of what the Trio De Danger started a few weeks ago.

The new Fighters also Buff God Ki, which theoretically helps their current viability until their other Team becomes more of a thing in the Meta.

Without further ado, let’s see how good they are.

Effects on the Meta

God Ki

Out of the new Fighters’ Tags, God Ki certainly is the most Meta ready one, since it already had a solid basis since the 2nd Anniversary. However, the Team slowed down throughout the months, due to the Zenkai “plague” which made even beings like SP SSB Vegito BLU look incredibly human.

Vados and Champa are a breath of fresh air for the Team, because they provide new Offensive options for God Ki while also further diversifying its Core color-wheel wise ( in particular, it lacked a usable Yellow ). Starting from SP Vados GRN, she’s a very resourceful Support, a role that was already covered by SP SSB Vegeta PUR on the Team with amazing results. Thanks to the latter, SP Merged Zamasu PUR becomes a decent option again since he provides a God Ki Z-Ability unlike the Saiyan prince, and he’s also a better self-sufficient Purple Fighter that can benefit from Vados’ presence. Vados and SSB Vegeta can also be used together to amplify the third Fighter ( Vegito, Champa) on the Team to the maximum, but that’s a riskier Build overall because Vegeta, and especially Vados, are mediocre standalone Fighters.

Champa’s case is pretty straightforward, he has no competition on the Team as SP SSB Goku YEL is a 2019 Fighter. He has a very versatile toolkit (although his main role is to inflict Damage ) and no real weaknesses, so he should fit the Core regardless of which Fighters surround him.

Having said all this, it should be noted that while God Ki improves a bit, it still needs more to reach top tier status again, because Vados and Champa don’t have the same impact as some of the best Zenkai Fighters have in the Meta.

Rival Universe

Vados and Champa make a great couple on Rival Universe as well, but the Core that surrounds them on here isn’t quite as God Ki’s.

Before Vados’ release, the Team barely had any support, so she comes in handy. The only issue is that she has to replace the best Fighter on the Team, namely SP SSJ2 Kefla GRN, but the tradeoff is worth it as the latter isn’t strong enough to carry the Team regardless. Thanks to Vados, natural Offensive Fighters like Basil look a whole lot better, and as a result the Team flows better in general.

Champa replaces Kefla as the best self-sufficient Fighter on the Team, but that’s not optimal. Having a Yellow covering that role in a Team is extremely risky in the Son Family Meta ( some could point out Android #18 is doing pretty well, but she’s on a whole other level compared to Champa ). Still, he improves the Team thanks to his versatility.

Rival Universe’s structure is strengthening, waiting for the inevitable final piece to cement its place among the highest spots in the Meta.

Girls

Girls are entirely carried by Android #18, somebody should check her to see how her back is doing. Other than SP SSJ2 Youth Gohan RED, she’s the only Fighter in the game that can make a Team S tier by herself. For this reason, having a Support for her has insane value, even if that means you’ll have two Fighters with the same color on the Team.

In fact, keeping SP SSJ2 Kefla GRN out seems detrimental when the next best option is SP Android #21 PUR, a Fighter who’s looking worse week after week. The result is a Green Color-counter type of Team, which flows well as Vados is Supporting two death machines.

The only issue is SP SSJ3 Goku PUR being able to eat 2 / 3 of the Team for lunch, but things wouldn’t be any better with SP Android #21 PUR on the Team, due to her Defensive impotence Goku.

Should You Pull?

Looking at the Fillers, this isn’t a great Banner. Sure, SP SSB Vegito BLU, SP Angry Goku BLU ( rumored to get a Zenkai soon ), and Beerus are good LFs to feature on a Banner, but their rates are still really low. The 1% featured Fighters are lackluster in comparison, none of them is still meta relevant except SP SKK Goku GRN, to an extent.

You should only pull on this banner if God Ki is your favorite Team or you’re betting on Universe Survival moving forward.
