Son Family vs Regeneration: Battle for Meta Domination

Overview

Since the release of Legends Step Up Vol.2, Regeneration has unquestionably been a dominating force and the best competitive Team in the Meta. Despite Future, Super Saiyan and Female Warrior being worthy opponents, Regeneration’s unparalleled Defensive Abilities made it better than the others.

However, yet another Step Up Banner, Legends Step Up Vol.3, brought significant changes to the Meta and made Son Family strong enough to take on Regeneration. So, the question is, which Team stands at the top? This article will try to answer that.

About Regeneration

The main thing that makes Regeneration so hard to defeat in PVP is its Fighters’ flawless Defensive Abilities. In fact, this Team has multiple Fighters whose life-saving gimmicks are just obnoxious. First among them is SP Zamasu RED. Despite strong Blue Fighters getting released, this Fighter is still commonly used because his Cover and resurrection-like Abilities made him the best answer against powerful Attacks like Rising Rush. No other Fighter has such a game-changing Ability.

Secondly, but no less important, SP Perfect Cell YEL is an Offensive juggernaut that can dismantle any Fighter in the Meta through his fantastic toolkit. Specifically, his Ultimate Move he can often finish off Fighters in a single Combo.

Regeneration also has multiple Fighters that can counter Enemy Moves through their Extra Moves--namely, SP Perfect Cell YEL, SP Lord Slug BLU, and SP Super Buu PUR--which is very tactically useful as it often catches Enemies off guard.

Last but not least, this Team’s diversity is almost unmatched. Its optimal Build has each color covered, so Regeneration has answers against any matchup.

These things make Regeneration the most annoying Team to face in PVP.

About Son Family

While Regeneration has flawless Defense, Son Family has overwhelming Offense. This assertion is not to imply that the latter lacks Defense, as that is not the case, but its terrific firepower is without a shadow of a doubt what makes it so strong in PVP

While any Goku would Synergize greatly with this Team, SP Otherworld SSJ Goku YEL is the best option, as his Support makes his Teammates much stronger. To put it simply, facing Son Family is basically like a boss fight--defeating SP Otherworld SSJ Goku YEL unlocks the second phase of the Match where the “boss” gets multiple power-ups and becomes overpowered.

SP SSJ2 Youth Gohan RED, SP SSJ Teen Gohan BLU, and SP SSJ Kid Goten PUR all become Offensive monsters with the Damage output to quickly defeat any Enemy.

The fact that the three of them can all be interchanged around SP SSJ Otherworld Goku YEL depending on the matchup, adds unpredictability and diversification to the mix.

Apart from Offense, this Team can benefit from two Cover Abilities and three Healing Abilities in total, which also makes it very durable.

The One Against the Other

Since both of those Teams are very popular in the Meta, it’s important to know what happens when Regeneration’s indestructible shield clashes with Son Family’s deadly spear. To begin with, SP SSJ2 Youth Gohan RED is a very effective obstacle for Regeneration since he directly counters SP Perfect Cell YEL and has increased Defense against all Regeneration Fighters.

Secondly, SP SSJ Kid Goten PUR counters both of Regeneration’s Tanks: SP Piccolo GRN by being a Purple Fighter and SP Zamasu RED by having an Ultimate Move that nullifies his resurrection-like Abilities.

These things may not seem particularly relevant if taken singularly, but overall they make this matchup really difficult for Regeneration Teams.

Who Stands at the Top?

Both Teams have great answers against any other Team in the Meta, but ultimately Son Family has the edge over Regeneration in a clash between them and since these two are very popular in PVP, this matchup is going to happen very often, so Son Family takes the crown as its win rate is more consistent.
