Overview

Chrom joins the battle as Dragalia Lost’s tenth Flame Sword user. Although a descendant of the Hero King himself, Chrom plays quite differently from Marth. After maxing out on Awakening stacks and skill reservoir levels, Chrom unloads an absolutely devastating Awakening Aether, granting him perhaps the highest burst potential in the game. 

That said, the conditions leading up to such damage are somewhat challenging. Exalted Sword’s damage is rather pitiful, and Chrom requires both full HP and a Burn-inflicting teammate in order to function at max potential. Considering Chrom's high maintenance needs within a supersaturated archetype, the arguments to run Chrom over Marth are few and far between. 

Strengths

Low SP Costs 

Casting Exalted Sword (x3) takes no time at all, however this means that Aether will be sitting at full charge all the while. 

Titanic Aether Damage 

When the stars align, Chrom’s single-skill burst is unparalleled, completely counterbalancing his mediocre damage while stacking.

Weaknesses

HP Gated 

Staying in perfect health is a tall order for a Sword user. Although Aether offers some spell vamp, Chrom’s optimal playstyle heavily discourages its frequent use. 

Lacks Burn

Aether deals additional damage to afflicted enemies, yet Chrom himself lacks Burn. This also means that he cannot naturally benefit from the likes of Elegant Escort.

Dragon Recommendations

Gala Mars: Use him if you got him.

Konohana Sakuya enhances Aether’s damage even further.

Dreadking Rathalos suits Swords’ Force Strike-heavy sequences well.

Ifrit is an affordable budget STR option.
