GET OFF MY LAWN!

Gear

Gearing Alencia to be your main dispeller isn't too complicated. She wants pretty typical debuffer/ dispeller gear: Spd, Effectiveness, HP%, and Def%. Her damage is less important than when she gets her S3 dispel off and how well she can survive to maybe do it again. (Spoilers: considering her Defense buff, the answer is usually "very well.")

In most cases, you'll probably want to run Alencia with a Speed set and a Hit set, since these are the two stats she cares about the most as a dispeller. If you're very high in the Arena and having trouble getting her dispels to land, you might even consider two Hit sets (three is probably overkill). Should this be the case, consider a Health or Immunity set for her last gear subset.

Artifacts

The best Artifact for Alencia is going to depend on what you need her to do the most. For this particular build, however, we're focusing on Alencia's power as a buff dispeller, and there are really only two choices here:

  • The preferred Artifact is the humble Cursed Compass. Alencia wants to start with her S3, and she needs all the Effectiveness she can get to make sure she strips her enemies down to the skin. (Er, maybe not the best wording there.)
  • Alencia needs to let at least a few enemies act before her, so they can set up buffs before she tears them down. If the enemy also Stuns Alencia during this time, you'll be in trouble. Strak Gauntlet helps keep Alencia safe from harm until she gets that perfect stripping opportunity. (Um. Also problematic. Apologies.)

Team

Core

This is a textbook example of a cleave team that substitutes Alencia in for another dispeller like Basar or Hurado. The strategy is simple (and very conducive for auto-battling, if that interests you!)

  1. Rose needs to act first (this requires excellent Spd gear) and gives her team an Atk buff and a CR-push.
  2. Alencia moves next, using her S3 in order to strip any Immunity sets, Fallen Cecilia barriers, etc. off the enemy team.
  3. Tywin follows Alencia's dispel with his AOE, 100% Defense Break.
  4. Blood Blade Karin gets a turn. Big Damage ensues.

Tywin can be replaced by Bellona if you have her Exclusive Equipment for 100% Defense Break, and Blood Blade Karin can be subbed out for pretty much any strong cleave.

Secondary

This team plays a little riskier. Instead of CR-pushing, this team intentionally lets the enemy team get off a few actions so that Alencia can burn more of their possible buffs with her S3.

  • Maid Chloe is the source of this team's Atk buff. She's also insurance: in case the enemy manages to set up and cleave before Alencia can dispel them, Maid Chloe's revive is there to save the day.
  • As before, Blood Blade Karin is there for Big Damage (and can be replaced by similar heavy cleave units).
  • Seaside Bellona is a hero made for countering cleave compositions. Since this team setup does run more of a risk of being bursted down compared to the first one, Seaside Bellona helps counter that risk. (Other anti-cleave heroes like Elena may also be used here.)
  • And of course, Alencia's purpose here is to scream at people until their buffs fall off.

This is an excellent composition for countering heroes like Maid Chloe and Fallen Cecilia.

Granny's Gonna Getcha

Some people value Alencia's Defense Breaking capability as much as, if not more than, her dispelling prowess. Due to her hardiness and the power of Soulburning her S1 for a 100% Defense Break on a key target, building Alencia as a bruiser meant to crush enemies in pitched combat is highly viable.

Gear

Gearing Alencia to be a bruiser is actually very similar to gearing her for quick S3s. She still wants Spd, Effectiveness, HP%, and Def%. However, Dispeller-Alencia can stop her gearing there. Bruiser-Alencia, on the other hand, needs to make sure she presents a threat to the enemy team. (Remember, she needs to get hit to activate Mind's Eye.)

Because of this, building Bruiser-Alencia is a little like building a competitive PvP Krau. She needs to be tanky enough that she survives multiple enemy hits, but not so tanky that the enemy gives up trying to attack her altogether (especially if you're using her in PvP Defense or RTA). Building some Crit Chance or Crit Damage substats on Alencia can make her much harder to ignore.

Finally, her gear sets. The easiest fit is a Speed set and a Health or Hit set (Health for lower- or mid-ranked players, Hit for high-ranked players). Another popular option is a Counter set, but be careful with that. Counter sets discourage the enemy from attacking Alencia, and again, you WANT the enemy to be doing that. A Counter set is great if you can get away with it, but it's better on Offense than it is in RTA.

Artifacts

Bruiser-Alencia has a couple different directions she can go for her Artifact. If you mostly play your Alencia into cleave teams where she's going to get hit no matter what, she can afford to equip a defensive Artifact.

  • Strak Gauntlet is an excellent counter for ailments and crowd control.
  • Durandal gets her even more turns, which is exactly what she wants.
  • Draco Plate combines offense and defense into one Artifact. This is especially sweet for a well-geared Alencia.

If you're worried about single-target nukes like Luna or Violet annihilating your squishies while Alencia stands there defenseless, you're going to need to build her into something the enemy can't ignore. In this case, we want an offensive Artifact.

  • Alencinox's Wrath is perfect for this purpose. The longer the enemy ignores Alencia, the nastier she becomes, especially taking her Defense Break and Trample combo into account.
  • Ascending Axe is a great budget option to the same end: it ramps up faster, but has less effect in the long run.

For some team comps or strategies, it might even be better to use Alencia's Artifact slot to power up the rest of the party instead with a totem Artifact. Examples include Midnight Bloom (for Crit Chance) or Spooky Solayu Stories (for Effectiveness).

Team

Core

This is a team comp that just discourages anyone from attacking it with anything, ever. Desert Jewel Basar starts off with Immunity and Alencia blasts off the enemy's buffs. Attacking Charles is a fool's errand, but attacking anybody else triggers Elbris Ritual Sword on Charles and Seaside Bellona's S2. Meanwhile, Alencia Defense Breaks one target at a time; attempts to reapply buffs are negated by Charles' S2; and Desert Jewel Basar dishes out random Stuns and constant AOE healing.

Analysis

Overview

Alencia was controversial on release due to poorly chosen wording on her S2, which led players to expect different things from her kit. Now that the smoke is dying down, however, it's easier to see where she stands in the Epic Seven meta: a sturdy wall of an Earth hero who combines spammable Defense Break, AOE buff dispel, and a protective Defense buff to keep the odds firmly in her favor.

Strengths

Spammable Defense Break

Any hero who can inflict a valuable ailment like Defense Break with their S1 is going to be useful, and Alencia has a surprisingly reliable Defense Break (75% at +4 Skill Enhancement). She can also Soulburn her S1 for a 100% infliction rate (also doubling the duration, from 1 turn to 2 turns!) when she really needs to crush a single target right this instant.

AOE Buff Dispel

As of January 2020, Alencia is the most durable AOE buff dispeller in Epic Seven. Being so durable, she can also pull off strategies that other buff dispellers might be too fragile to manage, such as letting the enemy get off multiple buffs before she wipes them all out in one big S3. And of course, her S3 gives her allies a Defense buff in the bargain. As if AOE buff dispel wasn't good enough on its own!

Awesome Passive Buff

Alencia's unique Mind's Eye buff is a grab-bag of goodies. While active, it grants her Effectiveness, Effect Resistance, and a special finishing move when using her S1: Trample, which deals extra damage and also lowers the cooldown of her S3 by 1 turn. This special buff is also undispellable (although it can be blocked by Unbuffable).

Tanky Stats + Health Scaling

Alencia has ENORMOUS base Health and a fair amount of Defense to boot, and she is incentivized to build even tankier because her skill damage scales on Health. There aren't actually very many tanky Earth heroes, which can make Alencia a very helpful hero for Ice-focused PvE encounters like Banshee 11 or certain levels of the Abyss.

Weaknesses

Not a Knight; Harder to Tank

Like fellow Earth hero Cartuja, Alencia is a sturdy tank of a unit who is classified as a Warrior instead of a Knight. This means that she cannot equip Knight Artifacts, even though many of them would suit her kit better than the generally damage-oriented Warrior Artifacts. In addition, since she lacks Provoke, she has trouble forcing enemies to attack her instead of her squishier allies. Because of this, even though her stats scream "TANK," her actual role tends to be murkier, leading to confusion for players trying to use her.

RNG-Reliant

The Mind's Eye buff from Alencia's S2 passive provides many benefits. However, it is also triggered by RNG, with only a 50% chance at max Skill Enhance, and it can be blocked by the Unbuffable ailment, even if it can't be dispelled. On top of that, Alencia has to be attacked to trigger Mind's Eye. As described above, she can't Provoke and her tanky stats don't exactly make her a tempting target, so triggering Mind's Eye can be harder than you might think.

Can Be Redundant

For some reason, Defense Break and buff dispelling are common themes among Earth heroes, often on the same kit. Iseria (a very popular hero) and Rin (a less popular hero) both have the same ailment combination, and Helga is an underrated 3★ hero with Defense Break on her S1. Above all, one of the most popular PvP dispellers is Basar, who is also an Earth-element hero.

All of these heroes apply their Defense Break/ buff dispel in different ways, and they are by no means interchangeable, so this does not make Alencia bad. However, if you've already raised a few of these Earth-element heroes that step into Alencia's niche in different ways, Alencia herself may not be a great investment for you.
