Part of the Church of Ilryos, Pyllis was originally Human before the Homunculus experiments changed her. She cannot remember anything from her time as a Human, but has a lingering feeling of being abandoned by a friend.

Builds

Queen Slayer

This build is specifically designed for taking down Queen Azumashik, the final boss of the Azmakalis Raid. However, Pyllis can use this same build to stall on a Defense team in PvP, protect her allies in an Arena smackdown, or challenge just about any PvE content.

Gear

Needless to say, Pyllis should build up Defense and Health to better suit her facetanking role. Effectiveness and Effect Resistance are then suggested with equal priority, as she wants to both land her S1 Provoke and resist attempts to dispel her barriers.

If using her in PvP in any capacity, she will also need some Speed to prevent being lapped. 160 is considered the bare minimum for most levels.

Artifacts

Aurius is the epitome of tanking Artifacts, so it's perhaps inevitable that it's also the best Artifact for Pyllis. Taking damage from Aurius' "protect your allies" aura still counts as "taking damage" for the purpose of triggering Pyllis' passive, making it perfect for her.

If you're only using Pyllis to tank PvE bosses, the Sword of Ezera can also be a good choice, as it reduces the damage PvE bosses deal by a flat percentage. This makes Pyllis much tankier at the cost of making the rest of your party a little more fragile. In contrast, Elbris Ritual Sword can be good if you're using Pyllis exclusively for PvP, since her S1 will Provoke enemies she counters.

Finally, if you're a relatively new player and you don't have many strong Knight Artifacts yet, Egg of Delusion is probably the best budget option for her.

NOTE: Noble Oath sounds like it is perfect for Pyllis, since it gives her Defense and Effect Resistance, but it's usually just less useful than the team support Aurius grants. You can use it on her, but any of the above options are probably better (except Egg of Delusion, of course).

Team

Core

This is a sample team for taking on Queen Azumashik. Both Vivian and Bellona are powerful DPS heroes, especially with Vivian's Attack buff and Bellona's Defense Break. Vivian's Immunity and Achates' AOE cleanse mean the party is safe from debuffs, and Achates is a very strong healer (who can be supplemented by an Artifact like Fading Memories or a Bloodstone on Bellona). And Pyllis is the glue that holds them all together, tanking the Queen's attacks and constantly mitigating damage on her allies.

Analysis

Overview

Pyllis is the tankiest of tanks in Epic Seven. While her one-track kit might seem inferior to the broad utility some other Knights can offer, her dedication to her purpose means she is completely min-maxed for damage mitigation. Everything she does scales off of Defense, including her barrier and damage for her S1 and S3 -- so building her is simple -- and with a passive activated by taking damage, she’s quite possibly the best carrier of Aurius. Since real players can’t be manipulated like AI, she falls off in RTA, but she can still be a serviceable Knight in Arena or Guild Wars as part of stall comps.

Strengths

Easy to Build

It's hard to have easier gear requirements than Pyllis. Build her with Defense. Then build her with more Defense. Have you built Defense on her yet? Good, then it's time to build her with some more Defense.

Teamwide Protection

Every action Pyllis takes (and several she doesn't) work to keep her allies alive. Her S1 Provokes, forcing enemies to attack her and preventing them from using their strongest attacks. Her S3 grants all of her allies a barrier, protecting them from damage. And every four times Pyllis takes damage, she gives her team a Defense buff, further mitigating any damage they might end up taking.

Dark Elemental

Being a Dark-elemental tank is a very good thing (why do you think Fallen Cecilia is so good?) Being Dark-elemental means that no Fire, Ice, or Earth hero ever has elemental advantage on Pyllis, and it also means that her Provokes never suffer from elemental disadvantage, even against Light-elemental heroes.

Good Damage Ratios

She's never going to be a primary damage dealer, but Pyllis' damage can be surprisingly solid. Her damage scales off Defense (did you build Defense on her yet?) and the cooldown on her S3 is a mere 3 turns. Being Dark elemental, she never suffers elemental disadvantage against targets, and she also does bonus damage to Light opponents, further increasing her potency.

Low Investment

As a 3★ hero, Pyllis uses Stigma instead of Molagora to enhance her skills. This makes it easier for her to reach her maximum potential than it is for 4★ or 5★ heroes, who are heavily gated by the rarity of Molagoras.

Weaknesses

Vulnerable to Defense Penetration

Since Pyllis scales so heavily with Defense, she typically builds more Def% than she does HP%. This can be a problem when she encounters bosses or enemy heroes who can ignore Defense with their attacks, such as Ludwig or Watcher Schuri.

Terribly Slow

Making up for her top-tier HP and Defense, Pyllis has absolutely abysmal Attack and Speed. The low Attack isn't a problem, but the low Speed definitely is. If Pyllis' enemies are getting two turns in for every one of hers, it's very difficult for her to keep up with their damage output, even with her heavily defensive kit.

Outshone By Fancier Tools

Pyllis' kit is effective, but it is also bare-bones. She can't make her allies Invincible, or revive them from the dead, or Provoke all her enemies at once, or negate enemy attacks with Skill Nullifier, or one-shot an enemy once she gets low on Health. The problem is, this is the kind of thing other heroes can do. Pyllis' kit is always helpful, but it doesn't have the breadth of power and versatility that some other heroes have, which means she can't always handle the crazy things Epic Seven can throw at you.
