Builds

Defense Utility Support

Elena’s playstyle is very comparable with Crimson Armin. This build allows her to swiftly cast her Invincibility buff to deny incoming damage. A Speed set is a must to move quickly enough, but how much Spd she needs beyond that depends entirely on the other allies she's been paired with. For example:

  • When paired with Ludwig, she will need to be tuned to move prior to Ludwig.
  • When paired alongside bruisers like Seaside Bellona, she will need to be positioned after the bruisers.

When it comes to Artifacts, Magaraha's Tome is key to having her work her magic in PvP. When the enemy triggers her S2 with an AOE attack, Magaraha's will trigger off the S2, allowing her to cut-in and deny enemy’s DPS with her team-wide Invincibility buff.

Team

Core

Elena’s Invincibility denies damage from enemy attacks. Ludwig’s S3 gains 50% Def penetration while he is buffed with Invincibility. It's a match made in heaven.

Alongside a fast immunity buffer (they must be fast!), your team is guaranteed to be covered from any form of harm for a full turn (unless already debuffed). A swift Immunity effect can be obtained through the following methods:

  • Immunity gear set
  • Vivian’s S3 (Atk buff + Immunity to all allies)
  • Basar’s S3 (cleanse, 30% CR Boost, and Immunity to all allies)
  • Crescent Moon Rin's S3 (removes buffs from a single enemy + grants Immunity to all allies)

An ATK buffer further enhances this comp, ensuring Ludwig’s cleave will wipe away threats. Charles is a great candidate for this role. He has the ability to retaliate through means of Elbris Ritual Sword and a Counterattack gear set.

Secondary

This team takes advantage of Elena's AOE damage mitigation to counter-play cleavers. The strategy is to have DJ Basar open with his CR boost. Charles will grant ATK buff to all allies and Seaside Bellona can proceed to cleave the enemy team. Elena heals off cleave damage from the enemy's retaliation, sneaks in a turn with Magaraha's, then casts her Invincibility buff. The enemy will then move after Elena moves and waste all of their burst and cleave due to Invincibility. SSB and Charles will still be able to retaliate, punishing the enemy team for the victory.

Twinkle, Twinkle, Cleansing Star

Because Elena has a very spammable cleanse on her S1 and can mitigate enemy damage with Invincibility whenever her S3 is off cooldown, she can be a decent choice for ailment-heavy PvE bosses such as Banshee. She's also a good choice for the Azmakalis Raid, since many of the bosses have both AOE attacks (triggering her S2) and nasty debuffs that need to be cleansed.

In these fights, Elena needs to be built to last. Fill her substats with HP%, Def%, and Effect Resistance so she stays alive and un-debuffed, ready to help her allies as much as possible.

Speed is tricky again, much like in PvP. Elena wants to either JUST outspeed the boss, so she can apply Invincibility right before the boss attacks, or she wants to be slow enough that she acts after all her allies and just before the boss' second turn. Otherwise, she'll waste most of her Invincibility on allies who act right after she sets it up and before they take any damage. Any substat slots you don't fill with Spd, consider looking for Atk, since Elena is going to spam her S1 and some Atk helps it sting a little harder.

The Artifact slot is where Elena can get away with helping in PvE, despite her kit being geared more towards PvP. There are a lot of Soul Weaver Artifacts that can really help her team utility:

  • Celestine and Wondrous Potion Vial are two of the best Artifacts for Elena. Celestine lets Elena heal the lowest-HP ally every time she uses her S1, and Wondrous Potion Vial doubles down on her role as a heavy cleanser.
  • Since Elena is building tanky gear anyway, you can capitalize on her tanking role with Idol's Cheer (to give her allies more turns) or a Prophetic Candlestick (to reduce the horrible cooldown on her Invincibility).

Team

Core

This is a sample team for taking on Banshee using Elena as your cleanser. Vildred is a perfect DPS hero for Banshee due to all his AOE damage, especially with an Artifact that gives him extra attacks, like Dust Devil or Rhianna and Luciella. Combined with Rin and Helga both causing Defense Break and Helga buffing Atk, Vildred can clean house here.

On the defensive side, Rin and Elena can both heal (especially if Rin is equipped with Celestine). Meanwhile, Elena handles cleansing duty (give her a Wondrous Potion Vial if you're worried about her keeping up).

Helga serves an interesting role here because she can extend the duration of Rin's random buffs and -- even more importantly -- Elena's Invincibility. If you time it right, you can squeeze two turns of Invincibility out of one use of Elena's S3, which can be very helpful in a battle as crazy as the Banshee 11 Hunt.

Analysis

Overview

Elena is a 5★ Ice Soul Weaver whose specialty is in defensive utility rather than healing. While her myriad of defense abilities makes her a solid PvP Defense hero, she could also be used on Offense to hyper-protect one solid DPS.

With teamwide Invincibility, an Effect Resistance buff, and damage reduction, Elena is very comparable to Crimson Armin. However, Elena has access to Soul Weaver-exclusive Artifacts along with 6 more base Spd than Crimson Armin. Magaraha's Tome works especially well with her S2, allowing her to cut-in and deny enemy DPS with her Invincibility buff. This alone makes her a dangerous presence on Defense.

Strengths

Team-Wide Invincibility

Elena’s S3 grants Invincibility and +50% Effect Resistance to all allies. Especially if paired with an Immunity buffer like Desert Jewel Basar or Vivian, Elena basically guarantees her team at least one additional turn (unless they are already debuffed pre-Immunity).

Passively Reduces AOE Damage

Elena’s passive reduces AOE damage taken by 10% (15% at max Skill Enhancement) for all allies. This passive allows counter-cleave heroes to become very bulky and hard to kill. This is very comparable to Crimson Armin (10-15% damage reduction to critical hits), who also protects her teammates against cleavers.

Healing Passive

Alongside her damage reduction, Elena has a reactive healing ability that recovers all allies' health (scaled to 20% of her own health) when an enemy uses an AOE attack. This part of her passive is considered an “ability” and will proc Magaraha’s Tome and Rod of Amaryllis. Being able to react to AOE damage with an instant mass heal that can also proc Artifact effects is one of the reasons Elena is a strong anti-cleave hero; as long as your team can survive one cleave, she heals them up so the next cleave can't secure a kill.

Spammable S1 Cleanse

Elena has a cleanse on her S1 that removes 1 debuff from 2 allies. This ability works with counterattacks and Dual Attacks as well, making it extremely spammable. Furthermore, when Soulburned (20 Souls), Elena removes all debuffs from all allies. This makes her a top candidate for cleansing in Raids.

Weaknesses

Unreliable Healing

Elena’s only form of healing is her S2 passive, which can only be triggered by an AOE attack. When fighting an enemy that lacks AOE, she has no healing (unless she equips an Artifact like Celestine). Additionally, her S2's healing can only be proc’d once every two turns. This makes her a very unreliable healer.

Atrocious Cooldown on S3

Elena’s S3 causes Invincibility, arguably the best damage-denying mechanic in the game. Unfortunately this ability is hindered by its painfully long cooldown. Even after Skill Enhancement, the cooldown is still 5 turns, which is still very long. Without cooldown reduction from a hero like Dingo or Iseria, Elena's S3 will almost never be available as often as you need it.

Cleanses Random Allies

Elena cannot pick which allies she wants to cleanse with her S1. If multiple allies are debuffed, she will choose her targets randomly, which could result in cleansing an unimportant Bleed or Attack Break when it's the Defense Break on your main DPS that you need to remove. Soulburning her S1 will solve this problem, but 20 Souls is a hefty price to pay.
