Builds

Maya: Warrior Princess

Gear

Building Maya is very simple, since she doesn't actually care about very many stats. She wants Speed and Effectiveness most of all, followed by Def% and HP% and maybe a little Effect Resistance if she can swing it. Def% is more tempting because it increases her damage, but Maya's damage is so bad that you probably want to prioritize increasing her sky-high HP instead.

Since Maya is far more useful in PvP than she is in PvE, you probably want to build her so she can take the first turn in a PvP match and startle her enemies into attacking her with a good old-fashioned war cry (her S3). As such, give her a Speed set (to help her move first) and an Immunity set (in case the enemy team moves first).

One fun twist you can try (especially if you're running Maya with a CR pusher, like Judith or Faithless Lidica) is giving Maya a Counter set instead of a Speed set. Because she can Provoke enemies and her S1 causes Stun, she can force enemies to run right into her Stun. It's not exactly a reliable strategy, since both the counterattack and the Stun have low activation chances, but it can be very satisfying when it works.

Artifacts

Maya benefits from quite a lot of different Artifacts. Her two best are probably Aurius (for team protection) and Elbris Ritual Sword (since she can Stun with her S1). However, she's also a decent candidate for Bastion of Perlutia if you're running her in a comp with one hyper-DPS cleave hero (i.e., Arbiter Vildred or Ludwig). Her high base HP translates into a very solid barrier from the Bastion of Perlutia, effectively protecting your cleaver so they can wipe the enemy team.

The best budget Artifact for Maya is probably Prophetic Candlestick. She really wants that cooldown reduction in hopes of snagging more S2 Stuns and S3 Provokes.

Analysis

Overview

Maya is a tank who focuses on disruption and disables to prevent her enemies from effectively attacking her allies. Quick and sturdy, with both Stun and Provoke in her kit, Maya can be quite a curveball in PvP, where she's too bulky to kill easily but too disruptive to leave alive. She suffers from the Ice-heavy meta currently prevalent in PvP and from low accuracy on most of her debuffs, making her less reliable than most players prefer, but when the RNG favors her, she is very difficult to overcome.

Strengths

AOE Provoke

An AOE Provoke is always an incredibly strong tool. Being able to force the entire enemy team to waste their next turn using an S1 on Maya is a massive setback that many PvP opponents cannot recover from.

AOE Defense Buff

AOE Defense buffs are less common than you might think, and they can also have a greater effect on your team's survivability than you might think. Maya's AOE Defense buff is perhaps the most reliable part of her kit, and it makes your team much harder to kill, especially since it is paired with an AOE Attack Break for your enemies. A Defense buff is doubly useful for Maya since her damage scales off Defense, making the buff both offensive and defensive in nature.

Constant Stuns

Both Maya's S1 and S2 can Stun their targets, her S2 quite reliably. Since her S1 is spammable and her S2 has a relatively low 3-turn cooldown, this makes Maya an excellent choice for dishing out constant Stuns to the enemy team.

Good Base Stats

As you might expect from her role as a Knight, Maya is quite bulky, with one of the highest HP stats in Epic Seven. However, she is also extremely light on her feet. In fact, as of January 2020, she's the fastest Knight in the game. This makes her disruption techniques even more dangerous, since she has a good chance of being able to start the battle with them and seize the advantage right from turn 1.

Weaknesses

Low Damage Output

Maya can disrupt and she can tank, but she is terrible at dealing damage to her opponents. Even though her damage scales off her Defense, her low Attack stat and mediocre damage multipliers greatly limit her DPS.

Unreliable Ailments

Stun and Provoke are great, but only if you can make them stick. Even after Skill Enhancement, Maya has depressingly low success rates on her ailments. Only her S2 has a success rate higher than 50%, and that's not even taking Effect Resistance into account. Furthermore, many PvE bosses are immune to Stun and Provoke, completely negating Maya's biggest strengths.

Long Cooldown on S3

Maya's S3 is extremely powerful, rolling Attack Break, Provoke, and Defense Up into one skill. However, its effects are short-lived (2 turns for the buff, 1 turn for both of the debuffs) and its cooldown is agonizingly long. Falconer Kluri has a similar problem, but Falconer Kluri's S3 is extremely accurate and reliable. It's entirely possible that you'll get nothing out of Maya's S3 except a Defense buff, and then you'll have to wait 5 long turns before you can try it again.
