Builds

Let's Dance, Boys!

Rin's most important stats are Spd -- to get more turns and run down the long cooldown on her S3 -- and HP%, since all of her skills scale off health one way or another. Spd and HP% should also be priorities for her gear's substats, followed by Effectiveness for her buff dispel and Defense Break. Her last substat should probably be Def%, but Effect Resistance can be useful in some cases as well.

A gimmicky build with some popularity is giving Rin a Counter set instead of Speed. Rin has decent natural Def and builds a lot of HP, so if she builds Counter, she can turn enemy actions into more uses of her S1 and thus more turns overall. It's RNG-reliant and won't work in all circumstances, but it might be worth a try if you're feeling lucky.

Perhaps the best Artifact for Rin is the aforementioned Celestine, which tacks a small heal onto her S1. Since Rin should be spamming her S1 constantly, Celestine greatly increases her healing potential. Another good choice is the Wondrous Potion Vial. Rin can't cleanse on her own, but since she should be getting a lot of turns throughout a battle, she has a lot of chances to proc the Vial and gradually purge her allies of debuffs.

Team

Core

This all-Earth party is heavily focused on CR-pushing to get each other as many turns as possible. With so much utility covered by the other members of the party, Rin has the freedom to focus on buff-stripping and Defense Breaking, taking any buffs caused by her S3 as icing on the cake rather than necessities for survival.

  • Destina is an excellent teammate for Rin. She acts as both tank and healer, complementing Rin's position as off-healer and off-tank, and she even grants extra CR to help Rin get all the turns she wants. (This is an example of a party where Rin might prefer Wondrous Potion Vial to Celestine, as Destina already brings so much healing on her own.)
  • Silk approaches turn speed from a different angle, slowing enemies and buffing the Speed of her allies. It shouldn't be hard to understand why Rin appreciates this utility in an ally.
  • Cidd, meanwhile, is the party's nuke, taking advantage of Silk's Spd buff and Rin's Defense Break to wreak havoc with his S3.

Analysis

Overview

Rin is something of a "jack of all trades, master of none" archetype: she can dispel buffs from enemies, inflict Defense Break, AOE heal, and drop a plethora of random buffs on her team. Since her damage scales off her own health, she can even build lots of HP and function as an off-tank. She doesn't fulfill any of these roles as well as a dedicated tank, healer, buffer, or debuffer, but she compensates by increasing her CR with her spammable S1. While her individual turns may have less effect than a more focused character, her value builds up rapidly as she strikes over and over again, crushing her enemies' defenses and flooding her allies with buffs.

How does Rin's S3 work?

As of October 2019, Rin's Awakened S3 randomly selects one buff from each of the following two pools. Both buffs are randomly chosen separately for each party member.

  • Offensive: Greater Atk Up, Critical Chance Up, Crit Damage Up, Continuous Healing
  • Defensive: Immunity, Evasion Up, Defense Up

Strengths

Buff Dispel

Rin's S1, Ring Toss, has an extremely high base 75% chance to dispel one buff on its target. Ring Toss also increases Rin's CR by 15%, speedily getting her another turn to Ring Toss again, and it also has a high chance to be triggered off her S2. In short, it's easy for Rin to be tossing rings the entire fight, making it impossible for enemies to hold onto their buffs.

Near-Constant Defense Break

Rin's S2, Dazzling Dance, inflicts Defense Break for 2 turns... and also has a 2-turn cooldown. With a little Effectiveness, Rin can singlehandedly keep Defense Break applied to a single target indefinitely -- maybe even two different targets, if she's built with enough Spd.

Fun Factor

The most compelling reason to use Rin may just be that she's fun to use. Her S3 has been compared to chocolate "surprise eggs" filled with toys, in that it's exciting to see what buff comes out of it, and her eccentric kit lends itself well to wacky builds like Counter sets that spam her S1 in order to rack up more turns. If you enjoy that element of entertainment and mystique, you'll probably enjoy fitting Rin into your roster.

Weaknesses

Unreliable

Unfortunately, the "slot machine" nature of Rin's kit that makes her so fun also makes her dangerously unreliable. If Rin rolls bad buffs for your team, fails to trigger her S2-into-S1 combo when you need it, or doesn't rack up enough CR to make her turn quota, then she can lose you the fight.

Not a Main Healer

Though Rin is a Soul Weaver, don't fall into the trap of thinking she can manage healing duties on her own. She can only heal using her S3, and while the heal is AOE, it's not really that strong. She becomes a much better healer if equipped with the Celestine Artifact -- though even then being a solo healer might be risky -- but without it, she should be considered an off-healer at best.
