Builds

David tanking Goliath

Building Bask for Abyss (or other PvE content) is pretty simple: stack HP, HP, and more HP. At least two of his gear sets should be HP, while the third one should probably be Defense to give that HP a bit more longevity. Add in some Spd so he gets to act more than once a decade and that's about all he needs.

His substats should follow the same pattern, focusing on HP% and Spd first and foremost. Fill his remaining substat slots with Effectiveness so he can dispel when it matters and Effect Resistance so he's not Stunned right before his S3 comes off cooldown, or toss in some more Def% if your Bask is having trouble surviving boss hits.

As with most Knights, Aurius is one of the best Artifacts for Bask, since it offers full-party protection and he can easily soak the extra damage with his huge health pool. If you're looking for a more budget option, however, Bask can also benefit from Prophetic Candlestick. Since his cooldowns are somewhat high and his turn speed is so slow, turning the hits he takes into cooldown reduction is a pretty good deal for him.

Some more niche options that might be useful if you have them on hand include:

  • The Egg of Delusion, which is a great budget choice for helping him survive Wyvern 11.
  • The Noble Oath, which works well with his huge health pool.
  • The Sword of Ezera, which is probably his best Artifact for Wyvern 11. It's also generally helpful for the fights you'd usually want to bring Bask to, since Bask is meant to tank big boss monsters in the first place.

Team

Core

Here's one example of how to build a team for Bask. Lots pairs very well with him because Lots heals based off his allies' maximum HP and accelerates your team's turn speed dramatically, while Bask brings Immunity to help compensate for Lots' lack of cleanse. Equip Lots with the Rod of Amaryllis Artifact to increase his healing potential and the two should be set to keep your party alive through just about anything.

To complement these two, we want heavy DPS units who are also well-suited for fighting boss monsters. Chaos Sect Axe and Commander Lorina, two powerful Dark-element Specialty Change heroes, fit the bill perfectly. Chaos Sect Axe has Defense Break and wants to build a lot of HP for his S3, which synergizes with Lots' healing. Meanwhile, Commander Lorina excels at fighting single targets, as her S2 passive increases her Atk every time she attacks the same target.

Analysis

Overview

Bask is a Limited-edition hero whose role on a team can be a bit deceptive. When you see "Immunity" and "dispel all buffs," you may think he's designed for PvP, and when you see that he's an Ice-element Knight, you may think he's designed for Wyvern 11. In truth, with his slow speed and huge bulk, his kit is perfectly positioned for high-end Abyss content instead. Between the Immunity on his S3 and the full buff dispel on his S2, he maintains an even playing field, protecting your party from any debuffs and stripping all buffs away from bosses in a single blow.

Strengths

AOE 3-Turn Immunity

This is the big one. 3-turn Immunity for your entire party is a long time to benefit from such a powerful buff.

ST Full Buff Dispel

Plenty of buff strippers can only dispel one buff from their targets at a time, including Ras, Rin, and Hurado. When facing bosses or other heroes who can apply multiple buffs to themselves at once, removing them one at a time isn't always fast enough. The fact that Bask can wipe all of his target's buffs at once is definitely a plus.

Damage Scales off Health

It's always helpful when a tank has attacks that scale off a tanking stat instead of the Atk stat. Bask's damage scales off of maximum health, and since he has one of the higher natural HP totals in the game, this can make him into a force to be reckoned with.

Weaknesses

Slow

The thing that holds Bask back from being a great PvP tank as well as a PvE tank is his terrible Spd. Immunity needs to be applied first thing in a PvP battle to work as intended, and with Bask's bottom-of-the-barrel Spd, he won't be able to apply the buff fast enough to matter.

Limited Availability

As of 2019, Bask has only been available in the "Eulogy of a Saint" side story. This means new players will not be able to pull him unless the event is rerun at some point in the future.
