Builds

Hybrid Support

Gear

Most Vivian builds use the same stats, just shuffled around with different priorities. This build focuses purely on Speed in favor of safeguarding teammates. The faster Vivian is, the more reliable the setup will be.

From that description, it should be obvious that Speed is the number one priority here. Focus on Vivian's damage stats as a second priority: Atk%, Crit Chance, and Crit Damage. Give her a Speed set and an Immunity set (in case she gets outsped by somebody like Assassin Cidd) and she's ready to go.

Artifacts

As a Mage, one of the more valuable Artifacts for Vivian is Tagehel's Ancient Book, which allows allies to take advantage of Soulburn bonuses on the first turn of battle. This plays a key role in allowing Basar to ignore Effect Resistance or a DPS hero to boost their S3's damage.

PvE Tweaks

Vivian can also be used as a support in PvE with a build like this. If running Vivian primarily in PvE rather than PvP, it's recommended to replace Tagehel's with a cooldown-reduction Artifact like Time Matter (so she can buff more often) and to replace her Immunity set with a Critical set to increase her DPS.

Team

Core

In the context of being a support hero, Vivian can synergize with just about any team composition. There is no team that doesn't like having Immunity and Attack buffs (except possibly a team focused around Champion Zerato or Gloomyrain, who actually want to get hit with debuffs).

Having Vivian to apply Immunity allows this team's damage-dealers to ignore Immunity sets and focus on their other stats. Tagehel's Ancient Book gives Basar and/or Tywin a chance to Soulburn. Combining Basar's AOE dispel, Tywin's AOE Defense Break, and Vivian's Attack buff is a recipe to set up a devastating cleave.

Secondary

The core team shown above can be adjusted in many different ways. Here is another variation: Vivian continues to provide Immunity and ATK buff. Hurado follows up with AOE buff removal, and Bellona strikes with her AOE Defense Break. Finally, a strong cleave DPS (in this case, Celestial Mercedes) hits a homerun with her S3.

Another One Bites The Dust

This build focuses on Vivian’s damage output to ensure that she can secure a kill. This build makes use of Kaladra’s 30% DMG bonus in order burst enemies when they are debuffed. Kaladra can also be substituted for Portrait of Saviors. Vivian will only need 50% CritC due to Tywin’s 50% CritC boost. For PvE Time Matter will be optimal for farming purposes.

Gear

As you might expect, when focusing on Vivian's damage output, we flip the stats from the support build. Prioritize Atk%, Crit Chance, and Crit Damage. Be careful with the amount of Crit Chance you give Vivian, especially if you're running her with a Crit Chance-buffing hero like Dingo, Tywin, or Challenger Dominiel. Any Crit Chance over 100% is wasted and would be better spent on Atk% or Crit Damage.

While Speed is no longer the top priority, having Speed on Vivian is still important. Her S1's CR-pushing helps her get more turns, but it's much more effective when combined with some Speed.

For gear sets, an Attack set + Critical set combination is best for Vivian early in Epic Seven. Late-game players will probably want to switch over to a Destruction + Critical set instead. If you can get Vivian to 100% Crit Chance without the use of a Critical set, you might also consider a Unity set, since Vivian getting more Dual Attacks results in more CR and more turns.

Artifacts

The biggest damage increase for Vivian is Kal'adra. However, because Vivian cannot debuff enemies on her own, she has to be run with a strong debuffing hero like Basar or Silver Blade Aramintha to take full advantage of it. Portrait of the Saviors is an even better option, but it is only available to those who participated in the Guilty Gear crossover event.

If Kal'adra/ Portrait aren't options for you, Time Matter is good in any PvE content where Vivian will be able to land multiple kills throughout a fight. Radiant Forever is also excellent for Hunts and Raids, as it increases the damage of her S2 against Elite and Boss targets.

The best budget option for PvE bosskilling is Daydream Joker. Vivian wants to crit on her S1 to get more CR, and critical hits increase the percent damage on Daydream Joker. Meanwhile, since her S2 can proc multiple times in a row, she can trigger Daydream Joker on each separate S2 cast, allowing her to shred the HP of big bosses in Raid or the Abyss.

Team

Core

This is a perfect team comp for taking on the Banshee 11 Hunt. Destina takes point (preferably with a Wondrous Potion Vial), healing and cleansing nonstop. Meanwhile, Vivian supplies the Attack buff and Bellona brings the AOE Defense Break, leaving Banshee and her multiple Mistychains vulnerable to attack. From there, the massive amount of AOE Earth damage this team can fire off should send the Banshee queen back to the grave in no time.

Analysis

Overview

Vivian is a 5★ Mage who offers both utility and AOE DPS. On the support side, she can apply both Immunity and Attack Up to her party using her S3, which are two of the most important buffs in the game. On the DPS side, she casts an AOE with her S2 that is repeated if the first cast kills at least one enemy. A DPS Vivian has a very similar cleave and farming potential as Vildred. With so much power in her kit and a respectable base Speed of 115, the leader of Witchaven can be the cornerstone of just about any team composition.

Strengths

Versatile

Vivian shines in both PvP and PvE, making her a great choice to invest in for new players. For PvE, Vivian excels in all Hunts and Raid bossfights aside from Wyvern and, debatably, Executioner Karkanis. For PvP, she can be built as a fast support for a cleave strategy who also brings a backup cleave in case the enemy survives past the first turn.

3-Turn Immunity + Atk Buff

Vivian's S3 is an AOE Immunity and Attack buff rolled into one brilliant package. This might just be one of the strongest buffing skills in Epic Seven, offering great support in both PvP and PvE. If built with enough Speed, Vivian can keep her allies immune to all debuffs for the majority of a fight. She can even remove the need for Immunity sets in PvP.

Multiple Casts of S2

When Vivian lands a kill with her S2, she will cast her S2 again at a reduced damage modifier. This effect can trigger twice, resulting in three S2 casts in one turn if she kills with each cast. This makes Vivian a powerful cleaver in PvP and a great choice for farming in PvE.

Low Cooldown on S2

Vivian only has a 2-turn CD on her S2. When paired with Time Matter, an artifact that reduces skill CD by 1 turn when an enemy is killed, she will be able to spam her S2 easily while farming or against bosses who summon adds (i.e., Azimanak or most of the Spirit Altars). This is also a great choice for speeding through trash-heavy fights like the Labyrinth, Raid, or the Automaton Tower.

CR-Pushes Herself

Vivian's S1 gives her 10% Combat Readiness, and it gives her double that when her S1 gets a critical hit. Especially if you can pull Vivian into lots of Dual Attacks, she can take multiple turns very quickly.

Weaknesses

Needs Kills for Max DPS

For Vivian to excel as a DPS, she must kill at least one enemy target whenever she uses her S2 in order to take advantage of her S2's multicasting mechanic. This makes her a very AOE-oriented character; she is comparatively subpar for single targets.

Weak Against Fire

As an Earth hero, Vivian is naturally at a disadvantage against Fire heroes and bosses. This is particularly troublesome for PvE, where the most important Hunt -- Wyvern 11 -- is Fire-elemental and a very bad matchup for Vivian. While Fire is not currently in vogue for PvP teams, strong Fire heroes such as Kayron, Lidica, or Ravi can still throw Vivian for a loop.

Must Use S3 Preemptively

It is extremely important that Vivian outspeed not only the enemy team, but your own team as well. Immunity needs to be applied before the enemy acts, because Immunity only protects your team from incoming debuffs; it doesn't cleanse debuffs that were applied before Immunity was granted. Furthermore, to maximize your team's damage, Vivian's Attack buff needs to be applied before your team's damage dealers act. This is fine for slow DPS heroes like Blood Blade Karin, but it's hard for Vivian to outspeed a fast cleaver like Vildred.

Bad A.I. for Farming

On paper, Vivian is perfect for farming. Unfortunately, the A.I. will always use her S3 first in battles, slowing down her clear speed by wasting her powerful buff on the first wave of enemies. She is still a good choice for farming, but in terms of raw clear speed she is outperformed by options like Vildred or Lena because of the turns she spends buffing unnecessarily.
