Assets

  • +ATK: Seth’s default Attack stat is good, but it could definitely see improvement. With a Attack Asset, Seth will be brought up to 35 Attack, helping Seth to deal more damage and improve his KO potential.

  • +SPD: Speed is another good Asset choice. While Seth’s default 31 Speed leaves a lot to be desired, a Speed Asset with additional Speed from skills and buffs can make Seth very fast, helping him to both secure and avoid follow-up attacks.

  • +DEF: Defense is a great choice of Asset for any defensive set on Seth. More Defense will simply improve Seth’s physical tanking capabilities and improve the output from Specials such as Bonfire, making it a natural fit for any Enemy Phase set.

Neutral

  • HP: Seth has a fairly average HP stat. Taking a HP Flaw is an acceptable choice since refining Seth’s weapon will make up for the lost HP. However, it is still recommended to keep HP neutral since it has an effect on his physical bulk.

Flaws

  • -RES: With all other stats benefitting Seth more and his Resistance being relatively poor to begin with, Resistance makes for the ideal Flaw choice with Seth.

With his good mix of stats, Seth can serve effectively as a frontline defensive tank, making him a strong wall against physical foes.

Either Attack, Speed, or Defense will work great as the Asset, helping Seth to either deal more damage, avoid more follow-ups, or sustain more attacks. For weapon, Slaying Edge makes for a fantastic weapon choice, helping Seth to utilize his Special more often. If one wants extra defensive capabilities, then Safeguard is also a great choice. In either case, refining it for Defense will help bolster Seth’s tanking even further. The Assist slot is mostly a matter of personal preference, with Reposition being a safe option. Blue Flame is an amazing Special and works fantastically for Seth, granting a flat 25 damage boost whenever he’s adjacent to an ally, though be aware that the damage boost is reduced to 10 whenever he has no adjacent ally. For much cheaper alternatives, both Bonfire and Ignis work very well and activate off of Seth’s high Defense.

Steady Stance 4 is a perfect fit for this build, giving Seth a huge Defense increase as well as preventing the opponent from charging their Special on Enemy Phase. Steady Stance 3 is also a good skill to use here, but without the Guard effect, it loses a lot of appeal. Atk/Def Bond is another strong option, granting a strong Attack and Defense boost to Seth whenever he has an adjacent ally, making it a natural fit with Blue Flame. Sturdy Stance is also a good option, granting extra Attack and Defense whenever attacked. In the B slot, Quick Riposte guarantees Seth with a follow-up attack whenever he is attacked while above 70% HP, helping him greatly with his KO potential. Renewal is another good option, helping Seth to stay healthy through some self-healing every other turn.

The C slot can be switched for personal preference. Atk Smoke is a great choice, helping to increase his sustainability against anyone affected. On a cavalry team, any Cavalry Buff such as Hone Cavalry will make a natural fit. Other than this, feel free to experiment. Finally, Atk/Def Bond will make for a fantastic Sacred Seal choice with a Attack and Defense buff whenever Seth has a adjacent ally. Quick Riposte is also a good option if he is not already using it as his B slot. Close Def is also a nice choice, boosting his defensive capabilities whenever attacked up close.

Despite his seemingly mediocre offensive capabilites, Seth can actually become pretty strong when on the attack.

For this, Seth will ideally want a Speed Asset in order to maximize his follow-up potential. Attack also makes for a good secondary choice of Asset. As for the weapon, both Slaying Edge and Wo Dao make for great choices. Slaying Edge reduces Seth’s Special cooldown by one while Wo Dao increases Special damage by 10. In either case, refining for Speed is the best option in order to further increase follow-up potential. The Assist is open to player preference and anything can be really used. Reposition is a great and safe choice for cavaliers. For Special, Moonbow is a great choice as with Slaying Edge, it’ll typically activate on Seth’s second attack with or without Desperation. Bonfire is also a great choice, though it won’t always be ready to go on Seth’s second attack if he’s using Desperation.

Atk/Spd Solo is an excellent A slot skill choice that grants Seth with a large offensive boost whenever he does not have any adjacent allies. As he’ll often be charging ahead to attack, utilizing this skill will typically not be too hard. If activating Atk/Spd Solo is of concern, Swift Sparrow is also a great choice, granting a lesser offensive boost, though with the only requirement being to initiate combat. For a budget option, Fury works great and gives Seth an all-around combat boost. Desperation makes for a great B slot choice, allowing Seth to make any follow-up attack instantly when he’s below 75% HP. Chill Skills such as Chill Def and Chill Spd also make for great choices, helping Seth against anyone affected with more damage or greater follow-up potential.

Utilizing a Spd Wave skill in the C slot will allow Seth to sustain himself with Speed buffs. Either Odd Spd Wave or Even Spd Wave would work fine. However, this is absolutely not necessary for this build to function well. If Seth can be provided with buffs from allies, Waves are not needed. If on a cavalry team, having a Cavalry Buff such as Hone Cavalry is recommended. Atk/Spd 2 makes for a great Sacred Seal choice, giving Seth one last offensive push. Simply Speed +3 also works.

With his new personal weapon, Seth can make for a very effective support unit.

Silverbrand is Seth’s personal and is what enables this build to be so effective. While it is not a great combat weapon, it is excellent support as the refined version provides the rare Spd Tactic skill. He can then combo with which anyone’s own choice of other Tactic skills in the C slot and Sacred Seal slot. The recommended combo is Atk Tactic in the C slot and Def Tactic in the Sacred Seal slot. This is also the cheapest combination of the lot. Regardless, any combination of the three remaining Tactic slots will work great.

To further support his supportive capabilities, Seth can utilize his B slot as such. Chill skills are great choices, allowing Seth to debuff the opponent with the highest value in the stat that the Chill skill affects. Chill Spd is the safest general choice as most units will benefit from the fastest enemy having less Speed, but any Chill skill can work fine.

The remainder of the build is to give Seth some combat utility for whenever it is needed. As he’ll mostly be used for support, Seth’s Asset and Flaw matter less here. Still, Speed will help to keep him safer from follow-up attacks, so it makes a natural fit. Any Assist can work fine, with Reposition being a great general choice for cavalry. Either Bonfire or Ignis will work great as the Special, both activating off of Seth’s good Defense. Fury is the recommended A slot as it’s cheap and provides a solid all-around boost to Seth’s combat potential. If the B slot is not being used for a Chill, it can instead be used for something to further enhance Seth’s combat abilities, such as Quick Riposte in order to guarantee him follow-up attacks when above 70% HP on Enemy Phase.

Introduction

If there is one thing everyone can agree on in regards to The Sacred Stones, it is how godlike Seth is. Easily the strongest unit in Fire Emblem 8 and one of the most powerful in the entire franchise, Seth has a incredible legacy… Which is why it is such a shame that he fails to live up to that legacy in Fire Emblem Heroes.

Seth enters the battle as a sword cavalier. He is a frontline cavalier with a balanced set of stats that allows him to fight with decent effectiveness against physical units. Unfortunately, he fails to stand out in any particular area. His Attack, Speed, and Defense are all only good: None of them are particularly high and this leads to him being easily outclassed in almost any role by other sword users, including other sword cavaliers.

The one thing he does have is the potentiality to be a strong support unit. With the 3.2.0 update, Seth got his own personal weapon, Silverbrand, which is excellent for anyone looking to make Seth a support unit. However, while Silverbrand is a direct upgrade over his Ruby Sword, it is still a very underwhelming weapon for anyone who wants to use Seth for combat. As such, Seth will benefit in terms of combat much more from a weapon such as Slaying Edge, Wo Dao, or Safeguard.

Overall, Seth and his legacy is unfortunately marred by his underwhelming stats and personal weapon. As it stands, using Seth can be hard to justify when there are so many other sword units that can do what he can but better. Still, he’s not terrible by any means. Like with most characters, he has the potential to be quite strong when given the right skills.

Strengths

Good Frontline Stats

While his Attack and Defense are not outstanding by any means, they are still relatively decent. In particular, 32 Attack and 32 Defense are pretty good values and mean that Seth can work decently well on the frontline against other physical fighters. 37 HP is more shaky for tanking, but with his Defense, Seth does reach a good 69 Physical Bulk.

Cavalry Strengths

Cavalry units come with two major benefits: movement range and Cavalry Buffs. With a natural movement range of three, Seth has a long natural reach and can more easily get himself into battle. On top of this, Cavalry Buffs are very easy to get a hold of and can be easily provided to him by other cavaliers in order to receive a huge stat bonus.

Silverbrand

Seth’s personal weapon, Silverbrand, allows him to serve as a very effective support unit. The base version of this weapon is just a 16 might Ruby Sword and is therefore a direct upgrade to any Seth which was previously using this weapon. When refined, it can gain the typical stat bonuses or access to Spd Tactic. This allows Seth to run three tactic skills at once, making him great support on mixed movement teams.

Weaknesses

Shaky Speed

Seth’s Speed stat sits in a very awkward position. At 31 Speed, Seth is occupying an awkward Speed category where he’s not fast enough to consistently perform follow-ups against some of the slower units while not being fast enough to consistently avoid follow-ups from faster units. Speed stacking is an option and can allow him to reach high Speeds, but this would take a lot of investment. Without Speed stacking, Seth will need to rely on skills such as Quick Riposte to obtain follow-up attacks.

Poor Resistance

At 22 Resistance, Seth is weak to magical foes. Combined with his decent at best HP and middling Speed, Seth makes an easy target for many of the fast offensive mages that can be commonly fought against. He also performs poorly against most dragons as a result. Keeping Seth away from magical opponents whenever possible is advised.

Cavalry Weaknesses

While cavaliers have their strengths, they also have substantial weaknesses. The most notable of which is that they are hindered by terrain more than any other movement type, being completely incapable of passing through forests and being slowed down by trenches. Cavalry also have naturally lower BST compared to other movement types, meaning they have less stats overall and lower scoring potential in arena. They also suffer from not having access to many powerful skills such as Breath skills, Wrath, Special Spiral, and so on.

Silverbrand

While Silverbrand can make Seth very effective as a support unit, it does little for him as a combat unit. While Silverbrand is an objective upgrade over his default Ruby Sword, gem weapons are simply undesirable choices for combat units. If he’s being built primarily to fight, Seth will ideally want a weapon such as Slaying Edge, Wo Dao, or Safeguard inherited to him.
