Assets

  • +ATK: Coming with an already very strong Attack stat, boosting it further through an Asset will be a strong choice, particularly for an AR-focused Blade or Special Spiral set.

  • +SPD: Although her Speed is middling, choosing a Speed Asset and stacking Speed boosting skills can push Mae’s Speed up to impressive levels, thus helping her ability to perform follow-up attacks.

Neutral

  • RES: Mae has particularly good Resistance for an offensive-oriented mage. Preserving her Resistance is advised to maintain her magical bulk but if no other Flaw is available, a Resistance Flaw will work fine.

Flaws

  • -DEF: Mae’s Defense is very poor, even by mage standards. Her Defense is her most disposable stat and makes for her best general choice of flaw.

  • -HP: Mae’s HP is on the lower end for mages. While HP is not as good of a Flaw choice as Defense is, it is regardless a perfectly acceptable Flaw option that won’t hinder her combat potential too greatly.

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +ATK / -DEF or -HP

Given that the intention with this set is to obtain OHKOs, the optimal Asset for Mae will be Attack. Defense and HP will both make for fine Flaw choices.

Weapon: Book of Orchids (+Eff)

  • Book of Orchids grants Mae with the Death Blow skill, boosting her Attack whenever she initiates combat.

  • The unique refine grants her Atk/Spd Link, thus granting herself and an ally with a strong offensive boost whenever Mae uses a movement Assist or a movement Assist is used on her.

  • These two skills in combination allows Mae to be a very effective attacking force.

Assist: Draw Back / Player Preference

Special: Glimmer / Blazing AoE Special

  • Glimmer boosts Mae’s damage by 50% of her damage dealt. The main reason to use this Special though is because of the low cooldown of two, allowing Special Spiral to always fully recharge Glimmer after it is used.

  • A Blazing AoE Special can also be a very effective choice, though will require Heavy Blade being used in the Sacred Seal slot and Pulse support to be effective.

Passive A: Death Blow (3 or 4) / Life and Death

  • Since Mae wants the most damage possible, Death Blow is a natural choice. Death Blow 4 is objectively superior to Death Blow 3, but is not absolutely necessary for this set to be effective.

  • If Mae is using an AoE Special, she will want Life and Death as her A slot. This is because the large offensive boost it gives is not limited to in combat like Death Blow is, meaning it will boost the power of her AoE Special too.

Passive B: Special Spiral

  • Special Spiral is imperative to the intention of this build and is thus the only recommended B slot skill.

  • After a round of combat where Mae activates her Special before or during combat, Special Spiral grants her with two Special charge. This allows her to instantly charge Glimmer or half charge an AoE Special.

Passive C: Time’s Pulse / Player Preference

  • Time’s Pulse grants Mae with one point of Special charge at the start of any turn where her Special is at max cooldown. This will be incredibly useful for helping Mae to get her Special charged initially.

  • Outside of Time’s Pulse, Mae has no C slot preference and is open to one’s own personal choice.

Sacred Seal: Quickened Pulse / Heavy Blade

  • Quickened Pulse grants Mae with one point of Special charge on turn one. In combination with Time’s Pulse, this allows her to instantly charge Glimmer.

  • Heavy Blade can be used in combination with an AoE Special. If Heavy Blade activates, a single attack will provide half of the required charge. In theory, what should ideally happen is Mae uses her AoE Special, then half charges it with her attack, then Special Spiral provides the remaining charge.

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +ATK or +SPD / -DEF or -HP

This set is intended to function as both a strong offensive and support unit in one. Taking an Asset in Attack or Speed is recommended in order to help her offensive prowess. A Flaw in Defense or HP is also recommended.

Weapon: Book of Orchids (+Eff)

  • Book of Orchids is great for a hybrid build because it offers both offensive and support benefits.

  • Offensively, it grants Death Blow to Mae and allows her to be buffed through Atk/Spd Link

  • In terms of support, Atk/Spd Link can be also utilized by Mae in order to buff others.

Assist: Smite / Reposition / Player Preference

  • Given Mae will be looking to provide support, her choice of Assist does actually matter for this build.

  • Smite is a great choice for Aether raids in particular so she can help allies get into better positions without risk to herself. Reposition is another effective option as well.

Special: Glimmer / Moonbow

  • Glimmer and Moonbow are both great choices for the Special thanks to their low cooldown of two.

  • Glimmer is based on the raw damage Mae deals while Moonbow reduces the enemies defenses.

Passive A: Death Blow (3 or 4) / Swift Sparrow (2 or 3)

  • Death Blow is a cheap and strong choice of A slot, offering a large Attack boost when initiating combat. Death Blow 4 is superior to Death Blow 3, but not necessary for this build to function.

  • Swift Sparrow is a more expensive alternative to Death Blow, offering a boost to both Attack and Speed when initiating combat. Swift Sparrow 3 is superior to Swift Sparrow, but much like with Death Blow, is not necessary for this build to function.

Passive B: Special Spiral / Chill Skill / Desperation

  • Special Spiral grants Mae with two free points of Special charge after any round of combat where she activates her Special. This allows her to constantly have Glimmer or Moonbow at the ready after she activates it once.

  • A Chill Skill such as Chill Spd or Chill Res can work well for extra support potential. These skills can also help Mae if she chooses to attack someone affected.

  • If nothing else is available, Mae comes with Desperation and can be used for a fine budget option. However, her middling Speed does mean she can easily struggle with performing follow-up attacks in the first place.

Passive C: Res Tactic / Def Tactic / Player Preference

  • With Book of Orchid covering buffing the offensive stats of a chosen ally, Mae can use her C slot and Sacred Seal slot to buff defensively. Both Def Tactic and Res Tactic are available as a Sacred Seal, so which one is used there is a matter of what’s available. However, Res Tactic is easier to obtain as a C slot skill than Def Tactic is.

  • Outside of Tactic skills, one's choices for C slots will come down to a matter of personal preference.

Sacred Seal: Def Tactic / Res Tactic / Player Preference

  • If one plans to use both the C slot and Sacred Seal slot for Def Tactic and Res Tactic, the Sacred Seal used should simply be whichever of the two is not used in the C slot.

  • Much like with the C slot, any alternatives to Tactic skills will be a matter of personal preference.

Introduction

Mae is an infantry blue mage who’s heavy on Attack but light on Defense.

With a very high Attack stat, Mae is certainly no slouch in dishing out a lot of damage in a single Attack. Not only does she possess this great Attack, but she also has good Resistance too, allowing her to be rather effective at resisting magical attacks.

With the 3.8.0 update, Mae also gets her own personal weapon, Book of Orchids. This is a versatile weapon that can be utilized in both and offensive and supportive setting thanks to the bonuses it possesses.

While Mae can certainly hurt, her middling Speed can make it tricky for her to perform follow-up attacks which hampers her offensive potential. She also possesses very low Defense and low HP, making her very susceptible to physical attacks.

All in all, Mae is a potent option for an Infantry blue mage. Not only does she hit ridiculously hard, she can also be pulled from the three star pool, making obtaining copies of her for different IVs and merging purposes considerably easier than other blue mages.

Strengths

Book of Orchids

Book of Orchids is Mae’s personal tome added in the 3.8.0 update. The base version of this tome very simply grants Mae with Death Blow 3, which in itself is nothing too special. What is more special though is that the unique refine for Book of Orchids grants her with Atk/Spd Link 3.

With Atk/Spd Link allowing Mae to buff herself and an ally offensively when a movement assist is utilized and Death Blow allowing her to deal more damage when initiating combat, Mae can use this tome to great effect both in an offensive role and a support role.

Amazing Attack Stat

Mae has a very high base Attack stat of 36, tying with units such as Lute, Delthea, and Bridal Sanaki. With this, she can deal an immense amount of damage in a single attack, particularly when armed with a weapon such as Book of Orchids or a Blade tome.

Good Resistance

At 30 base Resistance, Mae is fairly good at resisting magical attacks. It’s far from her most standout aspect, but given that a considerable amount of offensive-oriented mages are weak to magical attacks, it’s a nice bonus to have regardless.

Weaknesses

Poor Physical Defense

With a HP stat of 35 and a Defense stat of 16, Mae is very frail on the physical side with an overall physical bulk of 51. Due to her low physical bulk, Mae should take caution when fighting anyone with Distant Counter, particularly green DC users who will make quick work of Mae on their retaliation.

Average Speed

With a Speed stat of 31, Mae finds herself in an awkward position. She’s not fast enough to avoid doubles from high Speed units, but also not fast enough to consistently double lower Speed units such This has a notable impact on her offensive potential as she relies on heavy Speed boosts or breaker skills in order to obtain consistent double attacks.
