Weapon: Courtly Candle(+Def/+Res)

Assist: Rally Assist / No Assist

Special: Escutcheon / Iceberg

Passive A: Fort. Def/Res 3

Passive B: Lunge

Passive C: Panic Smoke / Fatal Smoke / Preference

Sacred Seal: Fort. Def/Res / Deflect Magic / Deflect Melee / Deflect Missile / Distant Def

  • Conrad’s main niche is taking advantage of his fantastic bulk in conjunction with his increased mobility as a cavalier by utilizing Lunge while stacking his bulk as much as possible. In conjunction with the Courtly Candle, which halves the damage he takes from the foe’s first attack if the foe performs a follow-up attack, Conrad becomes incredibly difficult to KO in a single round, and Conrad’s titanic bulk and movement range ensures that not only will he be able to Lunge the foe’s units out of position if he hits them, but that he will nearly always survive the encounter.
  • Conrad can utilize a Rally assist in Rally trap setups, but otherwise no assist is preferred, as assist skills can keep the AI from behaving properly(and enough things screw up Fire Emblem Heroes’s AI as is).
  • Fort Def/Res 3 is Conrad’s best bulk stacking option, giving him a massive boost to his visible Defense and Resistance on both phases, at the cost of an Attack reduction(Not like it matters much to Conrad though, since he should have teammates do the KO’ing for him.)
  • Panic Smoke and Fatal Smoke punish the foe even more for baiting Conrad out, either by cutting off their buffs or their access to recovery.
  • Finally, Conrad’s sacred seal is dedicated to maxing out his bulk, so seals like Fort. Def/Res and Distant Def work well here. He can also make excellent use of Deflect Seals to reduce the damage he takes even further(which one is used depends on what the team needs him to be bulkier against).

Passive B: Lull Atk/Def / Quick Riposte

Sacred Seal: Quick Riposte / Mystic Boost / Atk/Def Solo / Mirror Stance / Distant Def

  • Conrad can function as a reasonably competent cavalry tank thanks to his stellar bulk, but his underwhelming damage output and lack of a personal weapon means he fails to stand out in the role compared to other Lance cavaliers, namely Fallen Berkut and especially Duessel, who outperform Conrad as a Distant Counter user due to their superior damage output and access to exclusive weaponry.
  • The Courtly Candle remains Conrad’s best choice of weapon, granting him valuable damage reduction as well as a helpful boost to Attack and Defense when his HP is above or equal to 50%.
  • Distant Counter is necessary as it allows Conrad to counterattack ranged foes. Other defensive A skills such as Sturdy Stance 3 can be used, but losing the ability to counterattack ranged foes is fairly undesirable, especially if Conrad’s being used in AR offense(which is chock full of AR defense teams with a large number of ranged units)
  • Lull Atk/Def gives Conrad a stat lead and buff negation against his foe’s Attack and Defense, although it necessitates the usage of the Quick Riposte sacred seal. Quick Riposte can also be run in the B slot, which frees up Conrad’s sacred seal for other options, such as Mystic Boost or Distant Def.

Strengths

Fantastic Defenses

Conrad’s excellent base 34 Defense and 35 Resistance allow him to tank hits from either side of the spectrum extremely well, especially when combined with the Courtly Candle, which further reduces damage from the foe’s first attack by 50% if they perform a follow-up attack(and they almost certainly will given Conrad’s abysmal Speed).

Cavalry

Conrad’s status as a cavalier grants him increased movement, which he can make great use of as a lunge user.

Weaknesses

Low Speed

Conrad’s poor Speed leaves him heavily susceptible to follow-up Attacks and ensures that he will never perform them without the aid of Quick Riposte. Follow-up attacks are less of an issue thanks to the Courtly Candle, however.

Overshadowed Outside of Lunging

Outside of his niche as an extremely tanky lunger, Conrad finds himself overshadowed greatly by other lance cavaliers defensively due to his inferior damage output and lack of access to an exclusive weapon. Conrad shines greatly in his niche though, and he can perform well as an enemy phase superunit with enough investment.
