Breath of Life

Overview

This skill is one of a precious few that can grant healing, outside of staff-using units. At max level, it heals seven HP to all foes who are standing directly next to the user, when they initiate an attack. Although the healing is minor, it can have a number of very useful effects, such as keeping a unit above their HP threshold for a skill. Although it struggles slightly due to its limitations, Breath of Life can complement some builds focused around healing and supporting a frontline. The main advantage to the skill is being able to provide meager healing through any unit, without using a team slot on a staff-user.

Synergy

The units who benefit the most from Breath of Life are those who expect to take a lot of damage, and might need healing during the course of one round. Armored units or those using the Distant Counter/Quick Riposte skill combo will greatly appreciate even a small amount of healing. As Breath of Life does not heal the user of the skill, it should be given to a unit who is the least likely to need healing, while still being likely to initiate attacks. Ranged attackers, or those using Windsweep or Watersweep are decent choices to inherit the skill. Allies using Fury will also appreciate the healing, as it can completely offset the damage penalty. The Breath of Life skill stacks with the seal and the Aura Tome, potentially providing a total of 15 HP of healing to nearby allies.

Weaknesses

Breath of Life has three main weaknesses. Firstly, the user of the skill cannot themselves receive healing, meaning they will not sustain themselves unless an ally also has the skill, or the user has something like Renewal. Secondly, and more importantly, Breath of Life requires it’s user to initiate attacks to trigger the healing. The fact that the user of the skill must put themselves in danger, but cannot receive healing makes Breath of Life a difficult skill to use properly. Lastly, it requires team-mates to be positioned carefully around the user, which in many situations is not possible, or not recommended.
