Weapon: Blood Tome

Assist: Reposition

Special: Noontime / Glimmer

Passive A: Bracing Stance 3  / Sturdy Stance / Mirror Stance

Passive B: Lull Atk/Res / Null C-Disrupt / Quick Riposte

Passive C: Time's Pulse / Pulse Smoke / Rouse Def/Res

Seal: Quick Riposte / Distant Def 3

  • Lyon's base kit is already exceptionally good, but by making a few adjustments, we can make him into even more of a bulwark. A Tier 3 Stance skill such as Bracing Stance gives Lyon the Guard effect, making it far more difficult for his foes to trigger Specials on him, while also increasing his Resistance and Defense. Mirror Stance is a fantastic alternative if you plan on him defending against more mages than archers or daggers.
  • Finally, his native Bonus Doubler is also a solid choice on a budget when paired with a C slot Rouse skill, however with his low HP, you need to be careful that he doesn't get hit by Panic, which will nullify all of his buffs.
  • Lull Atk/Res is going to get Lyon more mileage than his native Null-C Disrupt, by making him slightly tankier and also decreasing his opponent's Resistance. However, if you're afraid of Dazzling Staff users, you can keep his native Null-C Disrupt. Another option is Quick Riposte, which, if put in his B slot, frees up his seal slot for seals like Distant Def 3.
  • His C passive is also highly flexible. By utilizing Time's Pulse, Lyon gets an instant Noontime after he's initiated on, which allows him to heal back up in time for his opponent's second attack. Time's Pulse allows Lyon to be better at 1v1 fights, whereas a skill like Pulse Smoke will help him to sustain against more opponents who will be attacking him on the same turn, and can help him to counter Infantry Pulse teams.
  • If running Bonus Doubler, he should take a Rouse skill as well. His native Rouse Atk/Res can suffice, but a Rouse Def/Res will make him into a more versatile tank. Again, just be careful of Panic debuffs and positioning so that he can buff himself more easily.

Weapon: Blood Tome

Assist: Draw Back / Reposition

Special: Glimmer / Moonbow

Passive A: Sturdy Impact / Mirror Impact

Passive B: Special Spiral / Lull Atk/Res

Passive C: Time's Pulse / Rouse Atk/Res / Odd Atk Wave

Seal: Quickened Pulse / Death Blow

  • By combining Time's Pulse and Quickened Pulse, Lyon can reduce his Special cooldown to 0 at the beginning of turn 1. By utilizing Special Spiral in his B slot, he can reduce his Special cooldown to 0 after every engagement, meaning that Lyon can constantly fire off Glimmer or Moonbow attacks.
  • If you don't want to sacrifice such a valuable C slot skill just to improve his performance on turn 1, Lyon can instead run his native Rouse Atk/Res or an Odd Atk Wave to improve his Attack. With Infantry Pulse support, he can still get an early Special activation, which begins his Special Spiral+Glimmer looping.
  • The Impact skills work very well in Lyon's A slot, as they drastically increase a defensive stat and protect him from his opponent's follow-up attacks, meaning that he'll only be countered once (if his opponent survives his initial attack).
  • Lull Atk/Res is an incredibly solid option for his B slot, which will increase his base damage and also make him a bit tankier to sustain the counterattack. This pairs well with a build less focused on Special activations, which means running Death Blow in Lyon's S slot and an Atk-boosting C slot would work well. With an +Atk boon, this gives him an unbuffed 72 Attack vs an opponent with a -3 debuffed Resistance.

Strengths

Blood Tome

Lyon's Blood Tome is an incredibly powerful defensive weapon, which reduces all ranged damage he receives by 50%. This is similar to Urvan's refined effect in that it is a flat damage cut which makes Lyon exceptionally tanky against all ranged enemies. Unlike Brave Ike, Lyon also has the Resistance to back it up, allowing him to take powerful hits from even red mage foes without breaking a sweat. Lyon also takes less damage from foes with Hardy Bearing, as his damage cut is 50% while Brave Ike's 'first hit' damage cut is only 40%.

Additionally, Lyon's tome grants him the same 80% Resistance to AoE Specials as Nagi's Ethereal Breath, making it easier for him to tank units like Ophelia and Sonya with pre-charged specials in Aether Raids.

Finally, Blood Tome grants him weapon triangle advantage against ranged colorless foes, making him a natural counter to units like Legendary Alm.

Minmaxed Stats

Lyon's stats could not be any more minmaxed. With a pitiful Speed stat of 16 and meager HP of 40, he puts all of his stats into Attack, Defense, and Resistance. His neutral Attack is a whopping 40, which guarantees that he will hit hard, while his Defense and Resistance are 32 and 35 respectively, making him a fantastic counter to all ranged threats and even granting him the ability to tank a few melee threats.

Because his Defense is only a few points lower than his Resistance, he doesn't fear counterattacks from dragons as much as other units with mismatched defensive stats.

Weaknesses

Weak to Melee

Lyon's tome only grants him damage cut against ranged foes, making him extremely vulnerable to melee targets. His high mixed bulk can grant him some reprieve, but when the vast majority of the heroes in this game can double him, his bulk only goes so far.

Additionally, his tome does not grant him weapon triangle advantage against melee colorless units, such as colorless beasts and dragons.

Abysmal Speed

Lyon's Speed stat suffers from his minmaxing of his other stats. While he makes up for it in his ranged defense, it also means that he will basically never double an opponent without a skill like Quick Riposte and must instead rely on oneshots. This also means that Lyon is likely to get doubled by nearly everyone who initiates on him, which makes his defensive stats somewhat less impressive.

One positive thing about his low Speed however, is that Lyon will never need to concern himself in keeping up with Speed creep.
