Assets

  • +ATK: Lukas boasts an impressive base Attack stat of 37, with an Attack Asset pushing this figure up to a fantastic 40. As he can perform multiple attacks on Player or Enemy Phase through different skills, extra Attack will improve his damage output significantly.

  • +DEF: Like his infantry appearance, Picnic Lukas has a fantastic Defense stat. A Defense Asset is especially worthwhile as the +4 boost pushes his base Defense up to a staggering base 46.

Neutral

  • HP: Lukas HP is best preserved whenever possible, as a greater HP stat will improve his mixed bulk and keep him higher above the 50% HP threshold for Wary Fighter.

  • RES: Picnic Lukas has a pretty mediocre Resistance stat, but this stat is nevertheless more important than his Speed. Resistance is worth keeping neutral whenever possible, though it can be a passable Flaw if necessary.

Flaws

  • -SPD: With a neutral base Speed of 21, Lukas’ Speed stat is near useless. As his follow-up attacks will be triggered by skills, Lukas can safely ignore his Speed and focus on improving his other stats.

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +ATK or +DEF / -SPD

  • Lukas should take +ATK for greater damage output on follow-up attacks through Bold Fighter and Quick Riposte. He can alternatively opt for +DEF and benefit from improved physical bulk and higher damage from Specials like Bonfire and Ignis.

Weapon: Slaying Lance (+Atk/Def)

  • The Slaying Lance improves Lukas’ damage output considerably, as the -1 Special charge granted by this weapon will allows Lukas to release his Special skills more often. With incredibly powerful Bonfire Special attacks at his disposal, Lukas can be a fearsome threat with this weapon.

Assist: Swap

  • As Lukas has poor movement due to his Armor class, Swap can improve his manoeuvrability.

Special: Bonfire / Ignis / Aether

  • Lukas has an incredible Defense stat, so defense-based Specials like Bonfire and Ignis can deal impressive bonus damage. After accounting for bonuses and possible buffs, Lukas can deal around 25 or 40 damage through Bonfire and Ignis respectively.

  • Aether can be effective to ensure that Lukas can preserve his Quick Riposte effect. However, the damage output of this Special is less than with Bonfire or Ignis, and a dedicated healer is a more reliable source of healing.

Passive A: Distant Counter / Steady Breath / Warding Breath

  • Distant Counter allows Lukas to combat all attackers regardless of range. Coupled with Quick Riposte, he can deal immense damage on Enemy Phase

Passive B: Bold Fighter

  • Bold Fighter allows Lukas to attack twice when initiating combat, allowing him to circumvent his low Speed and become a powerful attacker.

  • Furthermore, Bold Fighter has no positional or HP requirement, allowing Lukas to benefit from this effect at all times.

Passive C: Atk Smoke / Armor March

  • Atk Smoke will debuff the Attack stat of enemies after combat, allowing Lukas to tank physical attackers even more effectively.

  • Armor March will improve Lukas’ movement provided he starts the turn adjacent to an armored ally. This vastly improves his role as a Player Phase attacker. If the team composition allows it, Armor March can be a great asset.

Sacred Seal: Quick Riposte

  • The Quick Riposte ties Lukas’ kit together by allowing him to deal follow-up attacks on Enemy Phase. Combined with Bold Fighter, this skill allows him to deliver multiple attacks on either phase.

  • Quick Riposte makes it difficult for enemy units to initiate combat against Lukas. Resistance buffs will ensure that Lukas can survive any incoming attacks, and a dedicated healer may be required to keep him above the necessary HP threshold.

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +ATK or +DEF / -SPD

Weapon: Slaying Lance (+Atk/Def)

  • The Slaying Lance improves Lukas’ damage output considerably, as the -1 Special charge granted by this weapon will allows Lukas to release his Special skills more often. With incredibly powerful Bonfire Special attacks at his disposal, Lukas can be a fearsome threat with this weapon.

Assist: Swap

  • As Lukas has poor movement due to his Armor class, Swap can improve his manoeuvrability.

Special: Bonfire / Ignis

  • Both Bonfire and Ignis can deal phenomenal damage on a reduced cooldown thanks to the Slaying Lance. With his impressive Defense stat, these are easily Lukas’ best choices for offensive Special skills.

Passive A: Death Blow / Atk/Def Solo

  • Death Blow can improve Lukas’ Attack on initiation, making it the best complementary skill to Bold Fighter.

  • Alternatively, Atk/Def Solo is a more expensive choice, but Lukas can make great use of the additional Defense and can benefit from the stat bonuses during Enemy Phase as well.

Passive B: Bold Fighter

  • Bold Fighter allows Lukas to deal a follow-up attack in spite of his awful Speed stat. This allows him to invest heavily in Attack alone to become a fearsome offensive powerhouse.

Passive C: Panic Ploy / Armor March

  • Panic Ploy grants Lukas a utility role in reversing enemy buffs into debuffs. This can improve his offensive and defensive power depending on the buffs Lukas can target.

  • Alternatively, Armor March can be a great asset if Lukas is deployed alongside armored allies. The additional movement allows Lukas to initiate combat more easily.

Sacred Seal: Quickened Pulse / Brazen Atk/Def / Attack +3

  • Quickened Pulse reduces Lukas’ initial Special cooldown, allowing him to activate his first Special activation of the map more quickly. This can be an effective tool to defeating bulky opponents.

  • Brazen Atk/Def provides a consistent bonus to Lukas’ two key stats, provided he can reach the necessary HP threshold.

  • Attack +3, while not as glamorous as the aforementioned skills, provides a solid boost to Lukas’ Attack stat to complement Bold Fighter.

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +ATK or +DEF / -SPD

  • Lukas can take +ATK for greater damage output on follow-up attacks through Bold Fighter or Vengeful Fighter, or alternatively he can opt for +DEF and benefit from improved physical bulk and higher damage from Specials like Bonfire and Ignis.

Weapon: Luncheon Lance (+Atk/Def) / Slaying Lance (+Atk/Def)

  • The Luncheon Lance grants Lukas extra Attack and Defense when the foe initiates combat. This weapon therefore improves Lukas’ two major strengths considerably.

  • Bonfire and Ignis Specials will deal much greater damage while Lukas is defending thanks to the Luncheon Lance’s bonuses. With his absurd Defense stat, activating his Special will virtually guarantee a kill for Lukas.

  • The Slaying Lance is a noteworthy alternative, as this weapon is generally more versatile and will provide more value if Lukas is being used with more focus on Player Phase.

Assist: Swap

  • As Lukas has poor movement due to his Armor class, Swap can improve his manoeuvrability.

Special: Bonfire / Ignis / Aether

  • Lukas’ Defense stat is, as of the time of his release, the highest in the game. In addition, he can push this value even further with access to a 4-point Asset, placing him at 46 base Defense before skills. This offers him a stellar 23 bonus damage with Bonfire or 37 with Ignis which can be further improved through his weapon and skills.

  • Aether is a worthy consideration which can improve Lukas’ effectiveness across rounds of combat. The damage output of this Special is less than with Bonfire or Ignis however, and Lukas can receive healing through other sources.

Passive A: Distant Counter / Steady Breath / Warding Breath

  • While Lukas is generally better suited to fighting melee attackers, Distant Counter allows Lukas to combat archers and dagger users. However, mages will still obliterate Lukas unless he wields Wary Fighter, so he should be wary of these heroes.

  • Steady Breath improves Lukas’ Special charge while providing some additional Defense for improved physical bulk and increased Special damage with Bonfire/Ignis.

  • Warding Breath can be used instead to improve Lukas’ match-ups against Dragon heroes or if Steady Breath is unavailable.

Passive B: Vengeful Fighter / Wary Fighter

  • Vengeful Fighter improves Lukas’ Special charge and grants a follow-up attack against enemy attackers. This vastly improves his damage output and compensates for his low Speed.

  • Wary Fighter is the cheaper alternative, and is perfectly viable as it guards Lukas against fast attackers who would exploit his low Speed and Resistance.

If the team composition allows it, Armor March can be a great asset.

Sacred Seal: Atk/Def Bond / Fierce Stance / Armored Boots

  • Atk/Def Bond provides a stellar boost to Lukas’ Attack and Defense, and his poor movement as well as Swap make it easy to position him adjacent to an ally.

  • Fierce Stance provides a greater boost to Attack than Atk/Def Bond and has a less stringent requirement, but Lukas will not receive any Defense. If Attack is the priority, this may be the more appealing option.

  • Armored Boots can improve Lukas’ movement without the need for an armored ally. This is more preferable if Lukas is in a team with a dedicated healer who can preserve his HP to retain this effect.

Introduction

Picnic Lukas makes his appearance as a powerhouse physical fighter with strengths similar to his base iteration. Don't be confused: while Lukas: Sharp Soldier is an infantry hero, Picnic Lukas is an armored hero, granting him access to a range of powerful complementary skills.

Lukas’ greatest strengths should be immediately apparent: 37 base Attack and 42 base Defense offers an incredible foundation that allows Lukas to combat physical heroes with ease. Furthermore, his armor classification gives him access to skills to negate the disadvantages of his low Speed. Bold Fighter and Vengeful Fighter can improve Lukas’ offensive capability whereas Wary Fighter offers additional bulk.

This leaves Lukas with two remaining weaknesses: a poor single tile movement range and a weak base Resistance. While Armor March or Armored Boots can remedy Lukas’ movement issue, his poor Resistance will leave him quite vulnerable to mages and dragons. Lukas should stick to his strengths and focus on dealing with physical attackers, as he stands as one of the best heroes in the game in this role.

“What I wouldn't give for just one full day curled up with a good book.”

Lukas, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia

Strengths

Incredible Attack and Defense

Lukas wields phenomenal base Attack and Defense, allowing him to duel physical attackers with great success. These stats also grant Lukas powerful Special damage. Bonfire and Ignis are fantastic choices on Lukas, as either skill will deal immense bonus damage that can assist in punching through bulky opponents.

Fighter Skills

As an armored hero, Lukas can wield any of the powerful Fighter skills exclusive to this class. Bold Fighter and Vengeful Fighter are the best offensive options, whereas Wary Fighter can be a great defensive tool. Special Fighter is also available, but given Lukas’ poor base Speed, he will struggle to take full advantage of this skill.

Weaknesses

Poor Resistance

Though Lukas is an absurdly strong physical bulwark, his Resistance is less than stellar. Base 22 Resistance leaves the Deliverance soldier vulnerable to mages and dragons alike, both of whom can exploit his low Resistance as well as his low Speed.

Poor Movement

Though being an armored hero brings a range of advantages, the class is not without its disadvantages also. Lukas suffers from very poor movement, limiting his effectiveness as a Player Phase attacker. While this issue can be remedied somewhat through Armor March and Armored Boots, these solutions are not perfect. Armor March is dependent on adjacent armored allies, whereas Armored Boots requires a dedicated healer.
