Tempest Trials - Feud of the Fangs

Map

Bonus Allies

Bonus Allies

Using a bonus ally on your team will raise your score by +40%. Multiple allies do not stack.

Event Overview

This special event contains a series of maps you must fight your way through from beginning to end. Losing does not mean game over, as you can retry with  multiple teams. At the end of each round, points are awarded based on clear speed, survivability and bonus units. Your total points are tallied and used to unlock various rewards, many of which are exclusive to the Tempest Trials. Additionally, there is a player ranking with large feather rewards given to those with the highest scores.

Basic information about the Tempest Trials+ are as follows.

  • Using a Bonus ally on your team will increase your score by 40%.

  • Bonus allies gain double EXP and SP, and stat boosts (HP+10, +4 other stats).

  • Your first two runs per day earn triple the amount of points, and grant stat boosts to all of your units (as if they were bonus allies).

  • Event Duration is 10 days.

  • Rewards are given for scores up to 50,000.

Notable Rewards

Score Reward
1,000 4★ Canas: Wisdom Seeker
6,000 Live to Serve Seal
10,000 Earth Dance Seal
15,000 5★ Canas: Wisdom Seeker
20,000 Res Tactic Seal

4★ Canas: Seeker of Wisdom

A fan favourite from Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword, Canas is a red mage with substantial magical bulk. He's a great mage tank unit due to his stocky base 33 Resistance. He can make use of a Raven or Owl tome well but is held back by his low Defense and middling Speed, which cannot be improved with a boon. Canas can be used as a bonus unit or sacrificed at 4★ for Res Tactic 3.

Live to Serve Seal

This seal lets a staff-user recieve a portion of healing that they grant allies. It's a great skill and can be put to great use in the Tempest Trials as you'll want your healer to sustain themselves as well as others. This skill isn't rare, and can be easily obtained in other ways. Live to Serve being in a Seal slot means that a healer can run Dazzling or Wrathful Staff at the same time.

Earth Dance Seal

When given to a dancer, it allows them to grant +5 Defense to the ally they dance that turn. This acts as a sort of pseudo-Rally for units who recieve a Dance. The +5 Bonus is substantial and is a great way to augment Blade tome users who would already be receiving Attack and Speed buffs. Again, it's of great use within the Tempest Trials.

5★ Canas: Seeker of Wisdom

A five-star version of Canas: Seeker of Wisdom. He's a great combat unit but can be sacrificed to give a unit Res Tactic 3, Raudrowl or HP/Res 2.

Res Tactic Seal

The second Tactic Seal to be released, Res Tactic gives a +6 buff to allies within two spaces provided there are no more than two units of that movement type on the user's team. The +6 buff is very strong and is often enough to affect the outcome of battles where magical damage is concerned. It's great on Vanguard Ike, letting him use Def and Res Tactic at the same time, for free!

All Sacred Seals come at level one, but can be upgraded to their higher-leveled versions in the Weapon Refinery.

Team Building

For those looking to maximise their score and stamina efficiency, care should go into choosing a Tempest Trials team. Instead of talking about just completed teams, I’ll be talking about the elements that make those teams successful, so that players with different units can construct viable teams. Unless otherwise stated, all units from here on out are assumed to be running their recommended builds. A team with the best chance of success will have the following:

  • As many bonus units as possible, as they receive huge stat boosts.
  • Source(s) of healing, such as healing specials or a staff-user.
  • Strategy for the final map and boss.
  • Weapon Triangle coverage, as the actual units within each map can vary significantly.

The first two runs each day grant all units a stat boost as if they were bonus units. This simplifies team-building for those looking to complete just those runs and nothing else.

Bonus Units

The first units you’ll want to think about using are of course, the bonus units. With their huge stat bonuses (+10 HP, +4 to all other stats) they will punch far above their normal weight. Always endeavor to have at least one bonus unit on your team, as they increase your score by 40%. Bonus units do not stack: 40% total will be awarded no matter how many bonus units are on the team.

The first two runs each day grant all units a stat boost as if they were bonus units. This makes team-building much simpler for those runs, as players can use nearly any unit they want.

  • Nino: Pale Flower: Nino is a beastly unit, thanks to beastly 33/38 offensive stats and unrestricted movement. Unsurprisingly, she's the best offensive bonus unit and will tear through the maps if given a Gronnblade. She's an amazing partner to Bridal Ninian, a flying Dancer as well as other Fliers.
  • Karla: Karla has an even more monstrous statline compared to Nino and is a deadly physical attacker. Karla works well with just her base kit, but it's recommended to give her a healing Special such as Sol to help keep her alive.
  • Legault: Another blazing-fast offensive unit, Legault can handily one-round most enemies and spread dehabilitating debuffs around the enemy team. He's a stock standard ranged unit, but his weapon The Cleaner is great for the final map where enemies commonly have Rally skills.
  • Canas: Compared to the other ranged units, Canas is more defensively inclined with lower Speed and high Resistance. If given a skill such as Fury and with the Tempest Trial stat boosts, he will become decently fast, however. Unfortunately, he'll have a hard time against Ursula.
  • Nino: Regular Nino has always been a staple of Tempest Trial teams, and this time she gets bonus stats to take her damage to the next level. With support from Distant Def and.or Res Tactic, she can deal with Ursula.
  • Jaffar: Unfortunately, the Angel of Death is something of a weak link in the bonus unit lineup. His Dagger is better suited to the Arena than extended modes where KO's are easier to get, and debuffs matter less.
  • Karel: Is a more defensive counterpart to his sister Karla, but will perform mostly on par thanks to his amazing weapon the Nameless Blade. He can make great use of a healing Special to sustain over the maps or pick Moonbow to slice through tanks.
  • Linus: Those who choose to upgrade Linus to 5 Stars won't be disappointed. He has great physical bulk and with Basilikos, can sustain with healing Specials or take the offensive. It's recommended to not use his "Life and Death" refine in the trials, as it will leave him vulnerable to mages.

Healers

Staff-users are highly recommended for all kinds of teams due to their amazing healing potential. They are by far the most reliable and powerful healers available, and can also provide strong chip damage to neutralize strong threats.

There are a few types of builds which can be used to heal teams without using a dedicated healer. The first of these is the “Renewal Medic”, a build type which relies on healing from Renewal and the legendary weapon Falchion. Reciprocal Aid is a must-have skill to ensure clean transferral of health to allies. Forging Falchion increases the healing from this type of build.

Lastly, there is the "sustain tank" build. With a cooldown -1 weapon such as a Slaying Axe combined with Steady Breath, Quick Riposte and Aether, a unit can charge and fire off their special every round of combat keeping their health topped up over a long time. Linus, Karel and Karla can all pull of this build, but with Noontime and don't require Steady Breath or Quick Riposte.

Dancers

These are some of the most potent allies for Tempest Trials, offering both safety and speed to your run. In short, they are great for all the usual reasons, but are affected by their low combat stats, which can hold them back. Due to team limitations, if you choose to field a dancer they must be a respectable combat unit in their own right, with either a full build or something close.

Sweepers

One of the fastest ways to clear the Tempest Trials is with a powerful ranged attacker wielding a Brave bow or Blade tome. Combined with a buffer or dancer, they can destroy most units in the trials with ease once they are under the Desperation threshold. Nino, Linde, Rhajat, Lilina, Katarina, L'Arachel, Olwen and Brave Lyn are all common choices. Many of the bonus units this time are Sweepers: Both Ninos, Karla and Karel, Legault and Jaffar.

Using Autobattle

For those looking to save time, the autobattle feature lets you quickly gain Tempest Trial points with minimal effort. When creating an autobattle team, there are a few considerations:

Difficulty

  • Hard (5 Battles) is the most suitable difficulty for most players, assuming you can field a full team of five star characters. With enough bonus units or merges, it may be possible to do the lower infernal difficulty.

Team Building

  • Team building considerations are mostly the same for manual teams. The AI tends to play recklessly, making tanky units with well-rounded statlines and Distant Counter fare the best.
  • A dedicated healer is nearly always better unless you have multiple units with Aether or other healing. If you choose a dedicated healer, don’t forget to un-equip their weapon. Otherwise, the AI will treat them like a ranged attacker, and play aggressively with them.
  • Don't forget to pack a bonus unit!
  • Flying units tend to be poor choices, unless equipped with Iote's Shield. This is because the AI's reckless playstyle often leaves them in the range of deadly archers.

Examples

  • Distant Counter Units: Hector(LA), Nowi, Dorcas, Hector, Ike, Ike(VL), Ryoma, Black Knight, Young Tiki, Zelgius.
  • Sustain Tanks: Linus, Karel, Karla, Brave Ike, Ike, Ike(VL), Raven, Brave Lucina, Leif.
  • Dedicated Healers: Any staff-user!
  • Other Healers: Marth, Masked Marth/Lucina, Chrom, Arvis, Linde, Performing Olivia, Alm
  • Sweepers: Nino, Nino(SF), Jaffar, Legault, Karla, Karel, Bridal Sanaki, Bridal Tharja, Sanaki, Reinhardt, Olwen, Brave Lyn, Lute, Reinhardt, L'Arachel, Olwen, Delthea, Lilina, Bridal Cordelia.

Threats to Autobattling Teams

  • Triangle Adept
  • Weapon Breaker Skills
  • Firesweep Weapons
  • Brave Weapons
  • Effective Weapons (Such as Armorsmashers, Horseslayers and Bows)
  • Wrath/Wo Dao

Defeating Ursula

The boss of the Tempest Trials is Ursula, a blue Cavalry mage who wields a Blarwolf tome. This tome grants her effective damage against Cavalry foes, and with her extended attack range and Death Blow, she's a threat to many kinds of units. Full Cavalry teams will have trouble with her as few will be able to withstand her powerful damage. Instead of trying to fight her head-on, its best to let her engage your team and defeat her with a counterattack. She'll also be able to stop units such as Linus, Karel and Karla from gaining Special charges during the fight.

Mage Tanks

  • With high Resistance and the capability to strike back, they are among the best choices of unit for fighting Ursula. Julia and Deirdre shine above the rest with their Divine Naga allowing them to decimate her and ignore any buffs she might have. Make sure to equip them with Quick Riposte as they'll need to strike twice to score the KO. Nino can do the job with some support from a Distant Defense seal or Res Tactic.

Distant Counter units.

  • Units with Distant Counter can hit back against Ursula, but will want to make sure they can survive two attacks (as they won't be able to charge Specials). Sheena, Amelia and Dorcas are good choices (Sheena and Amelia will need Distant Counter, while Dorcas will need some Resistance).

Sweeper + Dancer.

  • With a unit such as Olivia, Azura or Inigo, one can close the gap to Ursula and attack them directly. Karel, Karla and Linus can get the job done once they've closed the gap.(Karel and Karla will need two turns, or a charged Special to get the KO, however). Jaffar is another choice, but he will need a dance to secure the KO with his low Attack stat.

Enemy 2 (Slot 2): Ranged Infantry Units

Enemy 4 (Slot 4): Melee Cavalry Units

Using Lane and the Duo Rally assist skill of Bridal tharja will help Nino take advantage of her weapon and certainly help you through out every wave in Tempest Trials and I recommend doing The Highest Lunatic if you have the right builds on each of your character even if they are not fully upgraded lol one skills will work fine. ALSO ONCE YOU GET EARTH DANCE PUT THAT ON LENE TO INCREASE THE USE OF NINOS WEAPON.

Nino's the main star of this team, with Ephraim to fuel her Gronnblade tome. Lucina's there mainly as a Falchion medic, while Felicia is there to assist in damage dealing.

Both ranged units have Draw Back. The melee units have also seen some fighting, so Nino's not doing it alone. Finally, everyone who could have their weapons refined have effect refinements running.
