Passive A: Atk/Spd Push 4 / Swift Sparrow / Atk/Spd Solo / Fury

Passive C: Panic Smoke / Def Smoke / Savage Blow / Flexible

Sacred Seal: Swift Sparrow / Death Blow / Darting Blow / Quickened Pulse

  • Eliwood shines when equipped with a Galeforce setup as this allows him to maximize his extended mobility as a cavalry unit -- and thanks to the refined Blazing Durandal’s massive boost to his Special charge, he can activate Galeforce with relative ease. Given this build’s offensive nature, an Asset to either of his offensive stats is preferred.
  • Any offensive A slot works perfectly fine here to further bolster his offensive presence, with his best options being Atk/Spd Push 4, Atk/Spd Solo, and Fury (which all have the flexibility of potentially being active in the Enemy Phase) and Swift Sparrow.
  • His B slot is quite flexible and depends on personal preference, as well as where Eliwood is being used. Lull Atk/Spd (and to a lesser extent, Lull Atk/Def) is a particularly great option that develops Eliwood’s survivability and consistency in doubling, and fits well across all facets of the game.
    • For Galeforce-oriented team compositions (such as in Aether Raids Offense), Wings of Mercy makes for a worthwhile consideration to instead focus on Eliwood’s mobility and let him strike from more favorable positions than otherwise possible. Alternatively, if using him in a Defense team, Lunge can be taken since combined with a Rally trap, this allows Eliwood to easily catch opponents off-guard and expose enemy units to the rest of his team.
  • Smoke skills are especially great choices with a Galeforce setup to strengthen the quality of Eliwood’s subsequent matchups after activating his Special. Panic Smoke helps him sweep through enemy forces by reversing his opponent’s buffs (which is quite useful when using him in an Aether Raids Defense team), whereas Def Smoke and Savage Blow are more consistent options for general use.
  • Lastly, any seal that enhances his offensive stats are ideal; his best options include Swift Sparrow, Death Blow, and Darting Blow. The Quickened Pulse seal can be equipped to ensure Galeforce’s activation without needing an enemy counterattack, just that Eliwood doubles.

  • This set takes a more generalist approach to Eliwood’s performance in the Player Phase compared and focuses more on heightening his damage, compared to the first’s more specialized capabilities. However, since his intended playstyle remains offensive in nature, an Asset to either one of his offensive stats is recommended once again.
  • Dragon Fang and Glacies are potent Special choices here and can activate quite frequently despite their four-turn cooldown thanks to the refined Blazing Durandal’s effect, potentially activating in every combat if he doubles and his opponent counterattacks. Should one wish to have his Special activate in every round regardless of whether his opponent can counterattack, Eliwood can be equipped with Moonbow or Glimmer.
  • The standard offensive A slot skills will work perfectly here as well. For his B slot, Lull skills (most notably Lull Spd/Def and Lull Atk/Spd) are Eliwood’s best bet to tear through enemy forces, nullifying their buffs as well as applying in-combat debuffs to multiple stats at once. Note that Desperation is not needed here since Blazing Durandal’s massive +10 Defense boost already helps mitigate damage to a significant degree.
  • If provided with refresher support, Def Smoke is a great choice for Eliwood’s C slot to debilitate nearby foes; otherwise, class-exclusive buffs like Hone Cavalry are always solid alternatives.
  • A seal that increases Eliwood’s offensive stats is recommended to supplement his combat prowess.

Strengths

Blazing Durandal

Eliwood’s access to the Blazing Durandal defines his place in the current meta and allows him to keep up even with recent additions to the game, despite being one of the original units in the game. Through its unique refinement, Blazing Durandal’s combination of effects upon initiating combat -- built-in Special Fighter, enemy follow-up negation, and a massive boost to his Speed and Defense stats -- makes Eliwood a fantastic offensive threat, while also mitigating his otherwise unimpressive survivability to a sizable degree.

Serviceable Offensive Stats

Although Eliwood’s offensive statline of 31/30 may not be especially impressive, it provides the Knight of Lycia with a decent enough baseline to build upon with investment.

Fantastic Availability

Currently available in the 3-4 star pool, Eliwood has the benefit of being very easily summoned, allowing one to acquire merges and ideal IVs for him with relative ease -- an advantage his direct comparable, Brave Roy, lacks. Furthermore, this alongside his access to Blazing Durandal makes Eliwood an excellent long-term project for those aiming to maximize their investments.

Cavalry

As a cavalry unit, Eliwood showcases great mobility (which pairs nicely with Blazing Durandal’s synergy with Galeforce), and access to strong class-exclusive buffs such as Hone Cavalry for simple but effective team synergy when used alongside other cavalry allies.

Weaknesses

Poor Enemy Phase

Although Eliwood’s Player Phase performance is simply astounding, his Enemy Phase is conversely quite lackluster, which makes him rather inflexible as a unit. However, his sheer potential while on the offensive makes dealing with this deficit more than worth it.

Cavalry

Eliwood’s status as a cavalry unit limits his skill availability to an extent (though the introduction of Lull skills have remedied this greatly), as well as renders him vulnerable to sources of cavalry-effective damage and unable to traverse certain terrain.
