Assets
+ATK: An Attack Asset is going to be universally applicable across any build that Ewan is using, and is a Super Asset that boosts his Attack by 4. 41 Attack is one of the highest base Attack stats that a mage can possess, allowing for Ewan to pull off some spectacular damage.
+SPD: A Speed Asset has offensive and defensive benefits, allowing for more potential follow-up attacks as well as denying some opponents from landing follow-up attacks against him. His natural Speed is somewhat middling however, making it less ideal unless actively investing in Ewan’s Speed through weapons and Skills.
+RES: Another Super Asset, a Resistance Asset puts Ewan’s base Resistance at 39 giving him a chance to easily shrug off magical attacks as well as utilize Skills that involve the displayed Resistance stat such as his base kit’s Sabotage Spd.
Neutral
HP: The HP Flaw is best to be avoided, as it is a Super Flaw that reduces Ewan’s base HP by 4. While this will not affect how his BST is used for arena scoring, it can result in overall lost bulk if running defensive builds. On offensive builds, it is a perfectly fine Flaw.
Flaws
-DEF: For most builds that Ewan will find himself running, a Defense Flaw can be taken as Ewan’s base 23 Defense is not very impressive compared to the rest of his stats. On a Rauðrserpent build however, taking a Defense Asset is a viable option as it so happens to be a Super Asset that pushes Ewan’s base Defense to a much more respectable 27.
Skill Sets
A Concentrated Student (Vantage Blade Tome)
Rauðrblade+ | A | Close Counter | |
---|---|---|---|
Reposition | B | Vantage 3 | |
Glimmer | C | Res Smoke 3 Alternate: Savage Blow 3 |
|
IVs | S | Brazen Atk/Def 3 Alternate: Fierce Stance 3 |
Preferred IV: +ATK / -DEF
-
Ewan’s Attack Super Asset is taken to push his Attack even further as this build puts an emphasis on OHKO potential. A Defense Flaw can be taken as it is the least valuable of Ewan’s overall stats.
Weapon: Rauðrblade+
-
The Rauðrblade tome allows Ewan to reach immense damage potential alongside his naturally high Attack when paired with displayed bonuses. This allows him to maximize his Vantage counter attacks.
Assist: Reposition / Flexible
Special: Glimmer
-
A Special does not often come into play on cooldown penalty Blade tome weapons, but Glimmer scales very well with the Attack stacking potential that Blade tomes possess.
Passive A: Close Counter
-
Close Counter is essential to this build as it allows Ewan to counter attack more than just ranged opponents, very essential to modes such as Aether Raids that will contain all kinds of opponents.
Passive B: Vantage
-
Vantage will allow for Ewan to be able to shoot for a OHKOs with his high Attack potential once he has successfully fallen to its HP range. This will hopefully be able to minimize just how much damage Ewan is forced to suffer.
Passive C: Res Smoke / Savage Blow
-
Res Smoke can hit nearby opponents with -7 Resistance after combat, which can let Ewan land easier kills against otherwise more magically durable foes.
-
Savage Blow is another option that has promise for a dual phase hybrid Ewan that can also initiate combat and inflict chip damage on nearby enemies.
Sacred Seal: Brazen Atk/Def / Fierce Stance
-
The Brazen Atk/Def Sacred Seal is important to increasing Ewan’s Attack even further. When in Vantage range, Brazen Atk/Def will also be active and ready for both the Player Phase and the Enemy Phase. Any Brazen Sacred Seal that also gives Attack can be used here.
-
The Fierce Stance Sacred Seal will only work in the Enemy Phase, but will available before setting up Vantage. This can be a decent option in the event that all three Brazen Sacred Seals are taken but the Fierce Stance Sacred Seal is not.
Protecting Tethys (Serpent Tome)
Rauðrserpent+ | A | Distant Def (3 or 4) Alternate: Swift Stance 2 |
|
---|---|---|---|
Reposition | B | Null C-Disrupt 3 Alternate: Quick Riposte 3 |
|
Iceberg Alternate: Glacies |
C | Atk Smoke 3 | |
IVs | S | Distant Def 3 Alternate: Fierce Stance 3 |
Preferred IV: +ATK or +SPD or +DEF or +RES / -HP
-
Ewan can make use of many different Asset stats, either seeking to improve his damage or his survivability in one way or another. As Rauðrserpent focuses on increasing raw defensive stats for ranged tanking, an HP Flaw can be taken. However, a single merge is recommended to remove the Flaw stat as it is a Super Flaw.
Weapon: Rauðrserpent+ (+Res) / Rauðrserpent+ (+Def) / Rauðrserpent+ (+Spd)
-
Rauðrserpent is the weapon that Ewan comes with by default, and can either be refined for more Resistance or Defense, or refined for Speed which can enhance Ewan’s follow-up attack potential as well as his ability to deny enemy follow-up attacks.
Assist: Reposition / Player Preference
Special: Iceberg / Glacies / Moonbow
-
Iceberg and Glacies base themselves off Ewan’s high Resistance, and allows for a powerful Special nuke every so often.
-
Moonbow can be taken as a Special that will activate very often thanks to its low Special cooldown.
Passive A: Distant Def (3 or 4) / Swift Stance
-
Distant Def will stack alongside the Distant Def that Rauðrserpent provides, and if Distant Def 4 is used, will allow for Ewan to ignore the displayed bonuses that ranged opponents use when they attack him.
-
His default Swift Stance is a fine enough Skill on a tight budget, as the Speed and Resistance that he receives is well enough and suited for this kind of build.
Passive B: Null C-Disrupt / Quick Riposte / Lull Atk/Spd / Sabotage Spd
-
Null C-Disrupt ensures that Ewan will be able to counter attack every kind of ranged opponent, even Dazzling Staff users or Firesweep Bow users.
-
Quick Riposte can be taken as Ewan’s base Speed does leave something to be desired. Quick Riposte will allow him to secure some follow-up attacks in the event that he is not fast enough to secure his own follow-up attacks naturally.
-
Lull Atk/Spd allows Ewan to inflict -3 Attack/Speed on his opponent, as well as ignore any displayed bonuses to their Attack and Speed. This will greatly enhance Ewan’s defensive capability while also helping to potentially secure a follow-up attack.
-
Ewan’s default Sabotage Spd can be a useful utility, especially when paired with a Resistance refined Rauðrserpent so that his displayed Resistance is more reliable to activate the Sabotage Skill.
Passive C: Atk Smoke / Player Preference
-
The C Passive is not very necessary to the performance of this build, but something such as Atk Smoke can be taken which may have the chance of enhancing Ewan’s survivability in the event he has to take hits from multiple opponents in the Enemy Phase.
Sacred Seal: Distant Def / Fierce Stance / Quick Riposte / Darting Stance
-
The Distant Def Sacred Seal will allow Ewan to stack even more levels of Distant Def, making him truly durable against ranged opponents.
-
The Fierce Stance Sacred Seal makes Ewan’s counter attacks deal more damage than they normally would.
-
The Quick Riposte Sacred Seal and the Darting Stance Sacred seal both provide methods for Ewan to achieve follow-up attacks, whether it be Quick Riposte’s relatively guaranteed follow-up attacks if Ewan stays in the HP range, or Darting Stance’s Speed boost that can help him secure natural follow-up attacks.
Rushing the Exam (Desperation Blade Tome)
Rauðrblade+ | A | Fury (3 or 4) Alternate: Swift Sparrow (2 or 3) |
|
---|---|---|---|
Reposition | B | Desperation 3 | |
Glimmer Alternate: Moonbow |
C | Even Atk Wave 3 Alternate: Odd Spd Wave 3 |
|
IVs | S | Brazen Atk/Spd 3 Alternate: Darting Blow 3 |
Preferred IV: +SPD or +ATK / -DEF
-
Ewan wishes to maximize his Speed stat in order to reliably make follow-up attacks, so a Speed Asset is the way to go. An Attack Asset can function as well, though is not as ideal. A Defense Flaw will barely hamper any of Ewan’s strong stats.
Weapon: Rauðrblade+
-
Rauðrblade’s damage potential when buffed will allow Ewan to easily defeat most opponents, even in situations where he can suffer a weapon triangle disadvantage. It is easily the best weapon that Ewan can utilize for an offensive Player Phase build.
Assist: Reposition / Player Preference
Special: Glimmer / Moonbow
-
Glimmer will scale well when Ewan is possessing displayed bonuses, while Moonbow is a better Special on the off chance that Ewan is unable to stack displayed bonuses.
Passive A: Fury (3 or 4) / Swift Sparrow (2 or 3) / Atk/Spd Solo
-
Fury gradually drops Ewan to the HP range to utilize low HP Skills such as Desperation and Brazen Skills, while also enhancing his defenses so that he has a safer means of taking a hit.
-
Swift Sparrow and Atk/Spd Solo are alternatives that give a larger boost in Attack and Speed, but do not offer the extra setup aid that Fury can provide.
Passive B: Desperation
-
Desperation will minimize the amount of times that Ewan needs to take a hit from opponents in the Player Phase, and with the power of a Blade tome he will be able to easily defeat most opponents in two hits before they have the chance to counter attack him.
Passive C: Even Atk Wave / Odd Spd Wave / Player Preference
-
Wave Skills such as Even Atk Wave and Odd Spd Wave will give Ewan a means of giving himself displayed bonuses every other turn. While this allows him to be relatively self sufficient, they can be easily replaced if Ewan has reliable means of getting displayed bonuses through team members.
Sacred Seal: Brazen Atk/Spd / Darting Blow
-
The Brazen Atk/Spd Sacred Seal will grant Ewan with a large boost of 7 Attack/Speed during combat once he has dropped to 80% HP or less, making it synergize well with Desperation.
-
The Darting Blow Sacred Seal provides 6 Speed when Ewan initiates combat. While it loses out on the potential of the Brazen Atk/Spd Sacred Seal, it is immediately available compared to the setup that Brazen Skills require.
Introduction
Ewan eagerly joins the Order of Heroes alongside his older sister Tethys, and true to his trainee status he has some powerful potential for one so young. Ewan’s stats at lower levels may not be all too impressive, but as he gradually makes his way to level 40, Ewan will eventually end up at a whopping 166 BST at neutral. This kid definitely has some talents that should not be underestimated!
Ewan sports solid stats, particularly his Attack and Resistance are noteworthy, though his Speed and HP are no slouch either. His Defense is somewhat low, but it can actually be built further upon if the user so desires it. Ewan possesses Super Assets in Attack, Defense, and Resistance which gives him the chance to build upon his two already amazing stats, or impressively strengthen his weakest area.
Ewan proves to be very versatile, though his lack of a unique weapon to himself does mean that as soon as a red mage with a much stronger statline shows up that could make Ewan less appealing. While he can pull off different builds with varying effects, more specialized red mages can have higher ceilings than him. Regardless, Ewan possesses a large potential for growth and versatility depending on what you can bestow upon him. Don’t daydream on this young magic student, his results can prove that he truly burns as bright as his fire magic.
Strengths
Sky High Attack Potential
With the possession of a Super Asset in Attack, Ewan is capable of reaching 41 Attack before any kind of weapons or Skills are taken into account. This Attack is only one less than Hubert sporting an Attack Asset, who was already known for reaching very high damage. This makes Ewan just as suitable for powerful magic strikes, perfect for builds such as Vantage paired with a Blade tome that focus on dealing as much damage as possible in a single strike.
Immense Versatility
Ewan’s statline is very well rounded across the board without making too many sacrifices. This helps him to run an assortment of different tomes with great success depending on what his summoner desires out of him. The fact that he has three different Super Assets means that his stats can easily be shifted to build upon different areas as well.
Weaknesses
Lack of a Unique Weapon
Ewan’s stats are very solid, but he lacks any form of uniqueness over other red mages that possess weapons of their own. While this does not hamper him all that much as his performance with inheritable weapons is considerably strong, there may come a time where he will be outmatched by a red mage that has superior stats to himself.
Defense is naturally Low
Ewan’s base Defense is not exactly on par with the rest of his stats, sitting at a base value of 23. While it can certainly be helped through taking the Super Asset which pushes it to 27 alongside other weapons and Skills that bolster his Defense, most builds will instead favour boosting Ewan’s other stats.
