Sacred Seal: Close Def / Distant Def / Quick Riposte

  • This build aims to take advantage of Jagen’s newly acquired exclusive weapon, the Veteran Lance. Functioning as an upgrade over the standard Barrier Lance+ in addition to granting Jagen Sabotage Atk, This lance allows Jagen to take even greater advantage of his high Resistance.

  • Resistance Scaling Specials are an excellent choice for Jagen, as his high Resistance gives them consistently high damage output at a reasonable cooldown.

  • Distant Counter allows Jagen to counterattack ranged foes, which lets him handily check many magic users coupled with his Weapon’s Resistance bonus(His effective bulk is even higher if his Sabotage Atk hits), But Mirror Stance and Fort Def/Res 3 can are also decent alternatives if one wishes to make Jagen a more effective dragon counter, or if counterattacking at range is unecessary for your team. Jagen can also use Distant Ward to gain additional Attack and Resistance during Enemy Phase combat with magic users, although he loses the ability to counterattack Bow and Dagger users.

  • Quick Riposte is essential for Jagen, as it allows him to perform Follow-up attacks on enemy phase despite his low Speed. However, if Quick Riposte is used as a Sacred Seal, one can opt for Lull Atk/Def instead to increase Jagen’s durability and damage output even further on Enemy Phase.

  • Pulse Smoke is one of the best C slot choices, especially in Aether Raids where Infantry pulse teams run rampant. Other C slot skills such as Attack Smoke can also work well, however. Lastly, Jagen will do well with any defensive Sacred Seals you can give him, such as Close Def and Distant Def, although Quick Riposte should be used as a seal if Jagen’s not using it in his B slot.

Sacred Seal: Fortress Res / Drive Spd / Def Ploy

  • This build aims to take advantage of the Veteran Lance’s supportive capabilities, as it’s Sabotage effect can be utilized by any of Jagen’s teammates.

  • Fort Def/Res 3 is used to raise Jagen’s visible resistance, increasing Jagen’s consistency in landing his Sabotages, as well as Ploy skills if one chooses to use them.

  • An Additional Sabotage should be used in Jagen’s B slot, but which Sabotage is used is up to the needs of the team. Sabotage Speed is helpful to the widest range of teammates, however.

  • Support skills such as Drives and Ploys are solid choices for Jagen’s C slot. For his Sacred Seal, Fortress Res is ideal to maximize Jagen’s visible Resistance, which gives him a much higher likelihood of landing his Sabotages, even against high Resistance foes. Another support skill can be used if one feels Jagen’s Resistance is sufficiently high with Fort Def/Res 3, however.

Strengths

Veteran Lance

Jagen’s Veteran Lance is a great personal weapon, granting him a +5 bonus to Attack and Resistance during Enemy Phase or when the Opponent’s HP is higher than or equal to 70%. It can also be refined to grant him Sabotage Atk built into his weapon, giving him some useful supportive utility, although this is contested by the inheritable Temari and Fortune Bow.

High Resistance

Jagen’s high Resistance remains one of his biggest selling points, and with a massive base 35 Resistance, he’ll have little trouble taking on magic users or landing Ploys and Sabotages on a majority of enemies. Jagen’s high Resistance also makes him a fantastic user of Resistance scaling specials such as Iceberg.

Weaknesses

Lacking Statline Outside of Resistance

Unfortunately, Jagen paid a heavy price for his high resistance as a launch unit, and the rest of his stats are lackluster in comparison. 27 Base Attack, while compensated for to some extent by the Veteran Lance, leaves Jagen’s base damage output relatively lacking. Jagen’s Defense and Speed are also poor at base 25 and 24 respectively, leaving Jagen incredibly weak to fast physical foes, especially Axe users.

Cavalry

Jagen’s status as a cavalier gives him a weakness to effective weaponry, in addition to making trenches and forests difficult to traverse and limiting his skill access.
