Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +SPD or +ATK

  • Due to the nature of this set being offensive, Olwen appreciates an asset in key stats such as Attack and Speed.

Weapon: Thunderhead (+Eff)

  • The special effect refinement on Thunderbrand further compliments this offensive playstyle by inflicting -5 Spd/Res to opponents during combat against both her as well as any nearby allies.

Assist: Reposition

Special: Glimmer / Luna

  • Glimmer is a great choice of Special on any Blade Tome user, as it scales with the additional damage received from Hone/Fortify buffs. Since Thunderhead doesn’t have the Special cooldown penalty tied to a standard Blade Tome, Glimmer can also be activated in a single round of combat when paired with Heavy/Flashing Blade.

Passive A: Swift Sparrow /  Atk/Spd Solo

  • At its maximum level, Swift Sparrow grants Olwen the strongest overall boost to her offensive stats with a whopping +6 Attack and +7 Speed on initiation

  • If the former are unavailable, Atk/Spd Solo also makes for a great choice of A skill by providing a similarly strong boost to Olwen’s offensive stats when not adjacent to any allies.

Passive B: Desperation / Lull Atk/Res / Lull Spd/Res

  • Desperation is the cornerstone of any offensive glass cannon mage build. Once in the HP range, Olwen will be able to safely double her opponents without the risk of getting killed on the counterattack.

  • In exchange for continuous combat, Olwen can take a more aggressive approach by running Lull skills in order to neutralize the bonuses of and debuff her opponents during combat.

Passive C: Join Hone Spd / Cavalry Buffs / Flexible

  • Joint skill buffs such as Join Hone Speed greatly benefit both Olwen as well as any adjacent allies by granting both a significant stat boost at the start of turn.

  • Class-exclusive skills such as Hone Cavalry and Goad Cavalry also make for solid team-based options.

  • Otherwise, the C skill can be replaced as needed to suit the team.

Sacred Seal: Heavy Blade / Swift Sparrow / Hardy Bearing

  • Heavy Blade makes for a very effective Sacred Seal by allowing Olwen to consistently accelerate the cooldown of her Specials thanks to the damage scaling property of Blade tomes.

  • Any skill that grants an offensive boost on initiation such as Swift Sparrow also makes for a suitable Sacred Seal option.

  • Hardy Bearing acts as a tool to prevent opponents from using skills that change attack priority. In particular, this is useful on Aether Raids defense teams against strategies that utilize Vantage.

Thunderhead (+Atk) A Close Counter
Reposition B Vantage 3
Glimmer C Pulse Smoke 3
Alternate: Res Smoke 3

+ATK

SBrazen Atk/Spd 3
Alternate: Fierce Stance 3

Show Explanation/Analysis

Weapon: Thunderhead (+Atk)

  • Another great use of Olwen’s unique Blade tome and an effective choice for Aether Raids offense is the Vantage sweeper setup. With it, an asset in Attack is preferable above all else in order to deal as much damage as possible in a single hit. Additionally, Thunderhead should be refined for +Atk, as the special refinement effect does not work during the Enemy Phase.

Assist: Reposition

Special: Glimmer

  • The choice of Special is mostly inconsequential but Glimmer will remain the strongest option thanks to the damage scaling property of Blade tomes.

Passive A: Close Counter

Passive B: Vantage

  • The main focus of this set is running Close Counter with Olwen. Upon hitting the HP threshold for Vantage, any subsequent opponents that initiate on Leila are forced to take at least one hit before having the chance to counterattack.

Passive C: Pulse Smoke / Res Smoke / Savage Blow

  • Res Smoke is a fantastic choice of C skill with this playstyle. By reducing the magical bulk of opponents around Olwen after combat, any affected targets that initiated on her afterward will be hit even harder.

  • Savage Blow can make for a suitable alternative. Although it only works during the Player Phase, it can prove to be effective when initiating by dealing 7 damage to all enemies around the target after combat.

  • Pulse Smoke is a great choice for stalling the Special activation of enemy teams that heavily utilize Infantry Pulse, making it much easier to take an initial hit.

Sacred Seal: Brazen Atk/Def / Fierce Stance

  • For Olwen’s Sacred Seal, anything that boosts raw damage during the Enemy Phase such as Brazen Atk/Res or Fierce Stance makes for a great choice.

  • The most notable weakness of this build are opponents that prevent counterattacks or disable skills that change attack priority. As such, be wary of any Dazzling Staff healers, Firesweep users, or any unit equipped with the skill Hardy Breaking.

Strengths

Thunderhead

Thunderhead is a strong offensive weapon that carries the damage-scaling properties of a Blade tome without any cooldown penalty tied to it.

Good Speed

Olwen’s solid 35 base Speed makes her proficient in both performing and avoiding follow-up attacks.

Cavalry

In addition to her superior mobility, Olwen has access to class-exclusive buffs such as Hone Cavalry and Goad Cavalry

Weaknesses

Very Poor Physical Bulk

With a meager 53 physical bulk at base, Olwen is forced to take countermeasures in order to survive more than one round of combat against physical opponents that can retaliate.

Cavalry

While being a cavalry unit has its advantages, it can also be a detriment. On top of forests and trenches making it harder to navigate maps, Olwen has an innate weakness to cavalry effective weapons. Additionally, cavalry units also have limited access to certain skills.
