  • To the surprise of no one, a new heroes banner brings us a new generic lance flier, although this one at least comes with good skill inheritance in the form of Allied Lance+. Her statline is essentially a copy of the previously released Legendary Caeda but without any of the features that make Legendary Caeda as good as she is. But hey, at least she isn’t a ranged flier!
  • Lance units aren’t strapped for choice in terms of  weapons, having plenty of excellent inheritables to choose from. Karin’s innate Allied Lance+ remains a decent choice if one wishes to give her supportive utility, but for maximizing Karin’s performance in combat player phase oriented lances such as the Firesweep Lance+ or the Springy Lance+ are superior. If available, It’s Curtains+ is also a good option alongside Quickened Pulse and Heavy Blade in order to trigger Galeforce in a single hit, provided Heavy Blade triggers.
  • Aside from Heavy Blade, Atk and Spd boosting A slots such as Atk/Spd Solo and Atk/Spd Catch are Karin’s best options as they allow her to stack as much Atk and Spd as possible on Player Phase. The same holds true for Karin’s Sacred Seal slot: skills such as Blade Session, Atk/Spd Solo, and Life and Death are her best seal choices.
  • While limited, Karin does have some decent B slot choices under her belt thanks to not being a ranged flier. In particular, Flow Guard and Flow Refresh let Karin get around follow-up negation effects from the likes of Fallen Edelgard, which would normally be a significant issue for her. S/D Near Trace and Aerobatics are also decent choices if one wishes to enhance her mobility instead, either for approaching foes with Aerobatics or for retreating with Near Trace.
  • Reins are generally good C slot options for fliers, but it can be replaced as needed.

Strengths

Statline

Legendary Caeda… I mean Karin’s statline is solid offensively. With base 37 Atk and 42 Spd Karin won’t have trouble dishing out damage and doing follow-up attacks consistently, especially when supplemented with the right skills. Her defenses are a bit more iffy, but base 26 Def and 31 Res are at least enough to reliably take a single hit (provided it isn’t a bow-user).
 

Flier

As a flier, Marcia… I mean Karin gains access to class exclusive skills such as Dive-Bomb and Guard Bearing, in addition to having her movement unhindered by terrain other class types are unable to cross such as mountains (particularly useful in Summoner Duels… good luck dealing with the Yuris though).

Weaknesses

Lacks a Personal Weapon

Being Legendary Caeda but without her potent exclusive skills is extremely unfortunate for Karin, as without those she lacks any means of standing out compared to the sea of generic lance fliers (unless you’re biased to fe5 like I am).

Bow Weakness

Karin’s Bow weakness means she should be kept away from any Bow using foes at all cost. Even with Iote’s shield, she’s unlikely to survive most bow users without additional Def investment due to her somewhat low base 26 Def.
