With her great combination of Speed and Defense, New Year Laegjarn makes for an impressive defensive fighter.
For New Year Laegjarn’s weapon, the Slaying Lance is a versatile and powerful choice, reducing the cooldown on her Special. The Tannenboom! is another strong choice, giving her a stat boost whenever she’s attacked. Her default weapon, Wagasa, also works nicely on a budget. In all cases, the weapon should be refined either for Speed to help her avoid double attacks or for Defense to increase her physical bulk. Which refine is chosen will be a matter of personal preference.
The Assist is also an open slot, with almost any Assist being a good choice. Reposition is a safe general choice for cavaliers. New Year Laegjarn even has a wide variety of Specials that can work well. With a Slaying Lance, Blue Flame makes for an extremely effective option thanks to New Year Laegjarn being able to consistently activate it while also being very strong whenever she’s adjacent to an ally. Alternatively, Bonfire is a lot cheaper and still a very strong choice. Sol is also great for self-sustainability, allowing New Year Laegjarn to keep herself healthy. When not using a Slaying Lance, Moonbow and Noontime are less powerful versions of Luna and Sol, but also come with a shorter cooldown. This lower cooldown is what makes them better suited for New Year Laegjarn if she’s not using a Slaying Lance.
Steady Stance 4 is an incredible defensive A slot option. This skill grants New Year Laegjarn with a huge Defense boost when attacked, as well as slowing down the opponent’s Special charge. Steady Stance 3 is much cheaper than the level 4 version but is much less desirable overall. Regardless, it remains an effective budget option. Atk/Def Bond is another strong option, granting New Year Laegjarn with a strong boost to Attack and Defense whenever she has an adjacent ally. Close Def is also a great option, granting a Defensive boost to her when she is attacked up close. In the B slot, Quick Riposte makes for an amazing choice, granting New Year Laegjarn with a guaranteed follow-up attack when attacked above 70% HP. While New Year Laegjarn is quite fast, she can struggle with securing double attacks against faster foes, making Quick Riposte a solid choice. Renewal is another good choice, helping New Year Laegjarn through self-healing every other turn. If one is not using Steady Stance 4, Guard provides the same slowing down opponent’s Special effect but on a rather strict above 80% HP requirement. Still, Guard can be an effective option, though do not use it if New Year Laegjarn has Steady Stance 4.
In the C slot, New Year Laegjarn comes by default with a great C slot: Def Tactic. This allows her to grant a large Defense boost to her allies at the start of the turn, provided there are two or less of her allies movement type on the team. If this requirement cannot be fulfilled, this skill will need to be swapped out. On a full cavalry team, New Year Laegjarn will want to have a Cavalry Buff such as Hone Cavalry instead. Finally, for her Sacred Seal, Atk/Def Bond is an amazing option that can even stack with Atk/Def Bond being used in the A slot. Quick Riposte is another great choice if New Year Laegjarn is using a different B slot skill. A simpler Sacred Seal such as Spd/Def 2 is also a fine choice.

New Year Laegjarn can also be built to be quite strong when on the offensive.
For full offensive, Harmonic Lance makes for an excellent choice, with this weapon boosting the power of any Special by 10 damage. New Year Laegjarn’s default weapon, Wagasa, also makes a good choice, granting her free access to the powerful Chill Def skill. In either case, refining for Speed will help increase New Year Laegjarn’s doubling potential. The Assist slot is open to player preference. Reposition is a nice general choice that works well on most cavaliers. For the Special, New Year Laegjarn will want a low cooldown Special so she can make the most use of Harmonic Lance, or simply so she can quickly and consistently activate it. As such, both Moonbow and Glimmer make for great choices.
Atk/Spd Solo serves as an amazing offensive choice, granting a huge Attack and Speed boost whenever New Year Laegjarn has no adjacent allies. Swift Sparrow is a cheaper but still strong alternative, granting a lesser offensive boost than Atk/Spd Solo whenever she initiates combat. Even cheaper still is Fury which grants her with an all-around boost to her stats. For the B slot, Desperation is a great choice for any offensive-oriented set, allowing New Year Laegjarn to make any follow-up attack immediately should she be below 75% HP. A Chill Skill such as Chill Spd or Chill Def also works, though do not use Chill Def with Wagasa since, as mentioned earlier, this weapon already gives her Chill Def.
In the C slot, New Year Laegjarn’s default Def Tactic is a great choice when she’s on a team that can properly utilize it. If she’s on a full cavalry team, then she’ll want a Cavalry Buff such as Hone Cavalry instead. Heavy Blade makes for a great Sacred Seal choice. This grants her two Special charges per attack should she have higher Attack than the opponent, allowing her to consistently activate Moonbow or Glimmer without relying on being counterattacked. A simple stat boosting Sacred Seal such as Atk/Spd 2 also works fine.

Sacred Seal: Heavy Blade / Atk/Spd 2 / Speed +3
The Firesweep line of weapons are powerful choices for many units. New Year Laegjarn is no exception, being capable of doing good work with the Firesweep Lance.
The Firesweep Lance is a powerful offensive weapon. It completely prevents enemy counterattacks, though this is at the cost of the user themselves also being unable to counterattack, making it a fully offensive weapon with no defensive usability whatsoever. For Assist, anything can work. Reposition is a safe choice for the majority of cavaliers, but feel free to choose something else. Moonbow makes for an effective Special choice, being able to be consistently activated almost every round of combat when used with Heavy Blade. For similar reasons, Glimmer is also a strong choice, though less consistent in power since it’s reliant on New Year Laegjarn’s raw damage dealt. Luna is another decent option, though it is not as consistently reliable in activation as Moonbow or Glimmer is.
For the A slot, Atk/Spd Solo gives a huge offensive boost to New Year Laegjarn whenever she has no adjacent ally. Overall fantastic choice since the offensive nature of this set means she’ll usually not have an adjacent ally when she attacks. Another amazing and much cheaper choice is Life and Death. New Years Laegjarn can safely enjoy the large offensive boost that Life and Death gives as the negatives of this skill, the reduced Defense and Resistance, is practically rendered obsolete by the Firesweep Lance since she’ll not be counterattacked. Chill skills make for great pairings with Firesweep weapons. The most notable two are Chill Spd and Chill Def, both of which will benefit New Year Laegjarn through either increased doubling potential or increased damage against anyone affected. Movement-based B slot skills such as Drag Back and Hit and Run also work well with Firesweep weapons, allowing New Year Laegjarn to retreat back one space and, in the case of Drag Back, also bring her opponent back with her.
The C slot is flexible. For improving her offensive potential, New Year Laegjarn can make use of Wave skills such as Even Spd Wave to improve her own offensive capabilities without any external support. However, a Wave skill is definitely not necessary, especially if she has teammates that can consistently buff her. Her default Def Tactic is a fine choice for any team composition that allows it to be utilized. While on a cavalry team, she’ll want a cavalry buff such as Hone Cavalry. Finally, Heavy Blade is a great Sacred Seal choice. So long as New Year Laegjarn has more Attack than her opponent, she’ll charge her Special by two instead of one per attack which in turn allows her to consistently activate Moonbow or Glimmer. If this Seal is unavailable, a simple stat boosting Sacred Seal such as Atk/Spd 2 works well.
Strengths
Good Offensive Stats
With 32 Attack and 35 Speed, New Year Laegjarn has good offensive potential. 32 Attack is pretty decent and lets her deal a good amount of damage while 35 Speed is high enough that she can become extremely fast when backed up by skills and buffs.
High Defense
New Year Laegjarn’s offensive capabilities certainly do not come at the cost of her defensive capabilities either. With a high 35 Defense, New Year Laegjarn is very capable of resisting physical units and can take a few hits before she’s in real trouble.
Cavalry Strengths
Being a cavalier comes with two distinct benefits: Movement and Cavalry Buffs. Being a cavalry unit gives New Year Laegjarn with a natural movement range of three, giving her far reach and greater flexibility with what to do with her turns. On top of this, she can benefit from Cavalry Buffs such as Hone Cavalry and Fortify Cavalry to gain massively increased combat capabilities.
Weaknesses
Low Resistance
At just 17 Resistance, New Year Laegjarn is very weak to magical attacks. Even red mages can be capable of dealing significant damage to her. One should take caution when allowing her to be attacked by a magical unit such as mages or dragons.
Cavalry Weaknesses
Being a cavalier comes with its weaknesses too. Cavalry units instinctively come with the lowest BST of any movement type, making them poor for scoring purposes in Arena. They are also extremely hindered by terrain, being completely incapable of passing through forests and being affected by trenches in the same way that infantry is affected by forests.

Pavise | C | Atk Smoke 3 |
S | Chill Spd 3 |
NY Laegjarn sports a decent statline, with naturally high speed and defense. A +Def Wagasa+ refine and a cheap Spd +3 A-slot plays up these strengths, granting her 38 Spd and 39 Def without any other modifiers. Combined with her mobility, Pavise, and Atk Smoke 3, she can meat-shield both speedy and strong foes as necessary. But these boons are only accessories to the greater battlefield role that she plays.
Her base set of skills (Wagasa and Chill Res) is catered towards diluting both physical and magical walls, which pushes the battle in favor of allied hard-hitters and wall-breakers. And the equipment of the Chill Spd seal further accentuates the dilution, potentially stripping the speediest foes of what may be their only form of defense: follow-up denial. And all of this happens every turn as long as NY Laegjarn is alive to set her piercing gaze across the horizon at the turn of each round.
Rally Def/Res is simply here to diversify NY Laegjarn's support role, but it isn't integral to the set. Swap, Reposition, or her innate Pivot are all solid alternatives that grant flexibility in map presence or meat-shielding. Regardless, NY Laegjarn is a wonderfully accessible, triple-Chill support unit with solid defensive capabilities to boot.

Bonfire | C | Atk Smoke 3 |
S | Even Def Wave 3 |
A simple and relatively budget mixed phase build, aiming to capitalize off of her Defense using Bonfire.
Harmonic Lance+ with +DEF or +SPD depending on how much you want to allocate to what phase build you're prioritizing on, both are great options. The idea is that it'll greatly enhance the damage from Bonfire, with a defensive buff helping you out more during enemy phase and slightly boosting Bonfire's effect, and a speed buff for helping ensure successful doubles.
Death Blow 3 or 4 is preferred to give her a sizeable ATK boost in player phase combat.
Desperation is great for a B skill for obvious reasons, but can also be replaced with QR3 if so desired.
Atk Smoke 3 is a bit of a weird one, however I recommend it as it'll soften the blows done to her in enemy phase combat and will safely allow her to reach the Desperation threshold.
Even Def Wave 3 as a seal helps further her Defensive bulk on even turns, and will help fuel the damage to her Bonfire, paired with her already high DEF.

An extra tanky Laegjarn focused on taking physical hits and staying at high health. Carrot Lance is to recover health after combat. Defense refine to improve her already great defense. Simple enough. Assist is preference. Bonfire is my choice of special for nuking opponents but you can change it based on preference. Steady Stance 4 is for more defense and stop or slow opponents from activating specials. Could also be swapped for SS3 as an easier skill to obtain. Fury can also be used for all around. Mystic Boost is to add even more health restored after battle. C skill is also preference. Seal is Quick Riposte to consistently double. Can last a while with constant health restore after combat. Could also be changed for either bond seals. Expensive but fun to try out. Wow this was long to write.

Designed to be the perfect all around Generalist cheerleader. Dual Rally and dual tactics aim to gear up all allies for mixed phase dueling and can boost Atk/Spd of at least one ally while dual chills help all allies take down the bulkiest of enemies. Technically this build can be run on any lance unit but it seems preferred on a cavaly unit for the extra movement and easier positioning. If we ever get B Duel Cavalry, that can replace Fury for a better arena score.

Warning: This build is only for enlightened individuals who have discovered the truth that Laegjarn is best girl.
With Laegjarn's amazing stat spread back when she came out, a Laegjarn alt sounded like an awful idea, just leaving fans open for dissapointment. Think Bride Lyn or Young Azura. However, New Year Laegjarn does not dissapoint. Having just a straight up better stat spread than any other lance cav, and more movement than Nephenee or Ephraim, Laegjarn is a great offensive cavalier that backs her offence with great defence. This opens up her build options to either an enemy phase lancer, or a player phase offensive semi-nuke. Wagasa+, while not being exclusive to her, lends itself amazingly to Laegjarn, mitigating her middling attack and maximizing her offensive presence. Atk/Def solo turns her into a straight up alternative to many tier 2 or even 1 lancers, while brazen atk/res is just here until atk/def comes out. Chill atk ensures that nobody harms best girl, and Aether makes sure that even if she gets damaged, she can just heal it back up. She has awful res however, so make sure to kill any mage threats before they can attack her. This build makes Laegjarn an unkillable team wiper, but she has a few counters. Ophelia often is paired with plenty of mages around her, so Laegjarn is no longer safe after killing the enemy mage. Other counters include pretty much any top tier axe unit, as they can double with skills and trigger specials with a triangle advantage. I personally have S-Supported Laegjarn, and remember, This build is only for enlightened individuals who have discovered the truth that Laegjarn is best girl.
(These stats are for an S-Supported +1 Laegjarn.)
