- Est’s player phase build is very flexible, as she benefits significantly from Atk, Spd, and Res. Atk for more damage, Spd to follow-up against faster units, and Res for bonus damage and to more reliably activate Flow Feather. The skills are mostly chosen to improve those stats, as well as provide other useful effects.
- For the Special, a 2-cooldown Special like Moonbow or Glimmer is generally optimal, so that Est can activate it on her second attack after being counterattacked.
- The boon is flexible; Atk, Spd, and even Res are all viable choices. Def is generally the optimal bane, as it is Est’s least useful stat, though she does still benefit from it.
- The A skill is flexible, with the two listed options being two of many good choices. Mirror Impact provides a substantial boost of 6 Atk and 10 Res when Est initiates combat, as well as denying a follow-up attack from foes that can counter. Atk/Spd Catch 4 provides a potentially larger boost of 9 to Atk and Spd but only when Est’s foe is both at 100% HP and debuffed in some way. Many other skills like Atk/Res Push 4 or Atk/Spd Solo can also work.
- The B skill is flexible, with Flow Feather being a generally great option that there is little reason to replace. Flow Guard is an alternative that doesn’t debuff enemy stats, instead slowing their Special activation to help Est survive strong counterattacks.
- The C skill is also flexible. Movement-boosting skills like Odd Tempest and Even Tempest are great options to allow Est to initiate combat more easily, and have more movement leftover for Canto after combat. Reins are also a good option to debuff her foe’s stats, further improving her combat.
- The seal is flexible. Blade Session provides the largest potential boost to Atk and Spd at +9 if two allies have already acted; similar options like Atk/Spd Solo provide a more reliable boost. Atk/Res Solo is likewise a solid choice.
Strengths
Tri-Edge Lance
Tri-Edge Lance is a solid weapon with a number of useful effects. It boosts Est’s Atk by 3 as well as boosting all her stats by 5 in combat under easy conditions, deals extra damage equal to 20% of her Res, and reduces the damage from her first hit taken by 40%. It also grants Canto (Rem. +1), allowing her to move 1 space after combat, plus however many spaces she didn’t move before initiating combat.
Lance Flier
Est’s status as a lance flier allows her to use great skills like Mirror Impact, Flow Feather, and Atk/Def Rein.
Great Atk, Spd, and Res
Est’s base 41 Atk, 38 Spd, and 37 Res are all great, allowing her to deal high damage and gain follow-ups against many foes. While Res is often not very useful on melee units, Est’s Tri-Edge Lance gives extra damage that scales with Res, and B skills like Flow Feather also utilize it.
Decent Def
Est’s base 25 Def is mediocre, but in combination with her damage reduction and debuffs from Flow Feather she can take physical hits relatively well.
Weaknesses
Low HP
Est’s base 35 HP is very low for a melee unit. While her other defensive stats are solid, this limits her ability to take hits.
Bows and other Flying-Effective Weapons
As a flying unit, Est takes extra damage from bows and other weapons with similar effects like Excalibur.
Mediocre Mobility
Est’s ability to initiate combat and retreat after combat is limited by the fact that she has 2 Mov and can only attack in melee. Her Mov can be increased by skills like Odd Tempest or ally effects like Gray Waves.
Competition
There are many other lance fliers in Fire Emblem Heroes, which have other unique effects that Valentian Est lacks. While she has some unique effects and her combat is solid, she may fail to stand out beyond that.
