Assets

  • +SPD: A Speed Asset takes Hana from 36 to 39 Speed. This gives her great doubling potential and can be easily boosted with skills, seals and weapon forges. She is quite capable of reaching 50 Speed should one choose to invest as much as possible into her Speed.

  • +ATK: An Attack asset boosts Hana’s Attack from 35 to 38, giving her a nice boost to her damage output. An Attack Asset works extremely well on any build but is noticeably strong when paired with Hana’s Katana or Brave Sword.

Neutral

  • DEF: Defense is easily Hana’s lowest stat at just 23. However, given that the majority of units that will be capable of retaliating on her will deal physical damage, preserving what physical bulk she has will help her to take hits better should she need to.

Flaws

  • -RES: The optimal Flaw on Hana. While it is a superflaw, meaning a Flaw reduces Hana’s Resistance by 4 instead of 3, it is the least important stat overall to Hana.

  • -HP: A HP Flaw can be used if one plans to utilize Ardent Sacrifice with a forged weapon. With a HP Flaw and a forged weapon, Hana lands at 39 HP, allowing her to still use Ardent Sacrifice to reach the 75% HP threshold of skills like Desperation and Wrath.

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +SPD or +ATK / -RES or HP

An Attack or Speed Asset is recommended with this setup, both work well helping with Hana’s offensive potential in different ways. A Resistance Flaw is best in general, but a HP Flaw can work great if you plan to utilize Ardent Sacrifice with a forged weapon.

Weapon: Hana’s Katana (+Eff) / Wo Dao+ (+Spd) / Slaying Edge+ (+Spd)

  • Hana’s Katana is Hana’s personal weapon and packs a lot of punch. Not only does this weapon deal effective damage against armor, but it can be refined to give Swift Sparrow too.

  • Wo Dao makes for a great choice too, adding +10 damage to Hana’s Special.

  • Slaying Edge is also great, reducing Hana’s special cooldown by 1 and thus allowing her to activate her special faster.

Assist: Reposition / Ardent Sacrifice / Flexible

  • With a HP Bane Hana, Ardent Sacrifice can be used to instantly reach the HP threshold for skills such as Wrath or Desperation.

  • Otherwise, one’s own preferred Assist will work absolutely fine.

Special: Glimmer / Moonbow / Luna

  • Both Glimmer and Moonbow have cooldowns of two, allowing them to activate very quickly.

  • Luna can also be used, but the higher cooldown means it isn’t as consistent as Moonbow or Glimmer.

Passive A: Atk/Spd Solo / Swift Sparrow / Fury / Life and Death

  • Atk/Spd Solo is a fantastic A slot choice, granting a large offensive boost to Hana so long as she does not have any adjacent allies.

  • Swift Sparrow makes for another great choice for the A slot, granting a lesser offensive boost than Atk/Spd Solo but only requiring Hana to initiate combat.

  • Fury is also a strong option, giving Hana an all-around boost to all stats and the recoil damage arguably helps her to more easily reach the HP threshold for skills such as Wrath and Desperation.

  • Life and Death is a good budget option, boosting Hana’s offenses further than Swift Sparrow on both phases at the cost of her defenses.

Passive B: Wrath / Desperation

  • Wrath is a powerful choice for this build, helping Hana activate her Special faster and adding +10 extra damage to her Special which will stack with Wo Dao for a massive +20 extra damage from Specials.

  • Desperation also makes for a good budget option, allowing Hana to perform any follow-up attack immediately on player phase if she’s below 75% HP.

Passive C: Threaten Def / Flexible

  • Threaten Def cuts the defenses of any enemy around Hana by 5, helping her to deal even more damage.

  • The C slot remains open regardless and if something other than Threaten Def would benefit Hana and her team more.

Sacred Seal: Flashing Blade / Darting Blow / Atk/Spd +2

  • Flashing Blade makes for a fantastic Sacred Seal choice with Hana, granting her extra Special charge per attack if she outspeeds her opponent. This pairs great with Hana’s Katana or Wo Dao when using Moonbow or Glimmer. Also works great with Slaying Edge and Luna.

  • Darting Blow is another strong option, granting a large Speed boost when initiating combat thus helping Hana to perform follow-ups.

  • Atk/Spd +2 will grant a small but still beneficial offensive boost to Hana. the standard Attack or Speed Sacred Seals also work well.

Alternate: Hit and Run

C Even Spd Wave 3
IVsSSpeed +3
Alternate: Attack +3

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +SPD or +ATK / -RES

With a Speed or Attack Asset, Hana’s offensive power is pushed even further, allowing her to deal more damage or Attack with greater follow-up potential. With Firesweep Sword, her Flaw matters less since she doesn’t need to worry so much about her defenses. Overall though, Resistance is the recommended Flaw choice.

Weapon: Firesweep Sword+ / Brave Sword+

  • Firesweep Sword prevents all enemy counterattacks on player phase, allowing Hana to safely utilize her amazing offensive power. This does come at the drawback of not being able to retaliate on enemy phase.

  • Brave Sword allows Hana to perform an immediate follow-up attack after her first at the cost of 5 Speed. The Brave Sword can even perform four attacks should Hana naturally double her opponent.

  • Both weapons make for very effective choices in a full offensive setup.

Assist: Reposition / Flexible

Special: Moonbow / Glimmer / Dragon Fang / Astra / Galeforce

  • Moonbow and Glimmer can charge in just a single attack with Heavy Blade active, allowing her to potentially utilize it every round of combat. With Brave Sword, she can even activate it twice if she performs four attacks.

  • Alternatively, Dragon Fang and Astra both allow Hana to make great use of her amazing Attack and can fully charge in two hits assuming Heavy Blade activates.

  • Galeforce can also make for an interesting choice. She can potentially fully charge it in a single round if she has Brave Sword and performs four attacks, but she will want Pulse support if Galeforce is used with Firesweep Sword.

Passive A: Atk/Spd Solo / Life and Death

  • Atk/Spd Solo is a fantastic A slot choice, granting Hana with a huge offensive boost whenever she has no nearby allies.

  • Her default Life and Death skill is another strong A slot option, especially with Firesweep Sword where the defensive penalty is less of an issue.

Passive B: Chill Def / Chill Spd / Desperation / Hit and Run

  • Chill Skills work extremely well with Firesweep Sword in particular and will still be strong with Brave Sword. Both Chill Def and Chill Spd would both benefit Hana in different ways.

  • Desperation allows Hana to perform any follow-up attack immediately after her first attack on player phase should she be below 75% HP and naturally double. This is a great budget option with Brave Sword but is completely pointless with Firesweep Sword.

Passive C: Even Spd Wave / Flexible

  • A Wave skill such as Even Spd Wave works extremely well for Hana, allowing her to boost herself every other turn.

  • In actuality though, the C slot remains extremely open and one should consider their team composition in order to see if another C slot would benefit the team more.

Sacred Seal: Heavy Blade / Flashing Blade / Speed +3 / Attack +3

  • Both Heavy Blade and Flashing Blade makes for excellent options in the Sacred Seal slot. As Hana has high Attack and Speed, both work extremely well.

  • Atk/Spd +2 makes for a nice option as well for one last small offensive boost. A simple Speed or Attack boosting Seal is also a good option.

Show Explanation/Analysis

Preferred IV: +ATK or +SPD / -RES

An Attack or Speed Asset will help Hana offensively. Speed in particular not only helps Hana with performing follow-up attacks but also helps Hana to avoid enemy follow-ups which helps her defensively. Dropping Resistance is recommended to allow her to preserve her physical bulk.

Weapon: Slaying Edge+ (+Spd) / Hana’s Katana (+Atk)

  • Slaying Edge is a powerful weapon that reduced Special Cooldown by 1. When used in combination with skills such as Aether and Steady Breath, Hana can potentially activate Aether during every single round of combat. A Speed refine will be a great option.

  • Hana’s Katana is also a fantastic choice, especially in high scoring Arena Assault thanks to the abundance of armored units in that high score range. While Hana’s Katana has a special refine, one might wish to opt for a stat refine instead due to the defensive focus of this set.

Assist: Reposition / Flexible

Special: Aether / Draconic Aura

  • Though expensive, Aether is a fantastic Special choice. With Steady Breath and Slaying Edge, Aether can activate every round should Hana perform a follow-up against her opponent.

  • Draconic Aura is another great option with Slaying Edge as it’ll activate without fail should Hana be attacked.

Passive A: Steady Breath / Fierce Breath / Close Def / Fury

  • Steady Breath is the optimal A slot skill, giving Hana with a good Defense boost, as well as making every action reduce Special cooldown by 2 instead of one.

  • Fierce Breath can also make for a excellent choice as well. Functionally, Fierce Breath is almost identical to Steady Breath except that it boosts Attack instead.

  • Close Def is another alternative that gives Hana a solid defensive boost whenever she is attacked in close range.

  • As a budget option, Fury gives Hana a nice boost to all stats, though the recoil damage can hinder her somewhat.

Passive B: Guard / Renewal / Quick Riposte

  • Guard makes for a solid B slot, preventing the enemy from charging their Special while fighting Hana.

  • Renewal is a strong alternative, particularly with Fury, granting Hana some self sustainability without having to rely on a Special such as Aether.

  • Quick Riposte is another option to guarantee that Hana performs a follow-up on Enemy Phase against even the fastest of opponents.

Passive C: Threaten Def / Flexible

  • The C slot is open to one’s own judgment and what Hana brings should depend on your team composition.

  • A safe general choice is Threaten Def which allows Hana to debuff the defense of the enemies around her.

Sacred Seal: Close Def / Speed +3

  • Close Def is a solid Sacred Seal option that helps Hana defensively when attacked in close range.

  • A simple Speed Sacred Seal also works well to increase Hana’s follow-up potential and make her even better at avoiding double attacks.

Introduction

One of the most renowned samurai in all of Hoshido, Hana is a infantry sword unit who’s big on the Attack but weak on the Defense. Even with the plentiful pool of strong offensive sword units available, Hana remains a strong choice thanks to her amazing offensive spread, great personal weapon, and ease of access.

With an Attack stat of 35 and a Speed stat of 36, Hana possesses one of the best offensive spreads for any sword unit and she can definitely put it to great use. Regardless of whether she’s using her personal weapon Hana’s Katana or a different strong weapon such as Wo Dao or Firesweep Sword, Hana can reach amazing levels of damage potential. Speaking of, Hana’s Katana is Hana’s personal weapon. This powerful sword not only makes Hana very effective against armor, but also gives her a good offensive boost whenever initiating combat.

This power does come with a significant drawback, this being her defensive stats. With 37 HP, 23 Defense, and 26 Resistance, Hana is quite frail and can take huge chunks of damage from even some green units. This doesn’t mean Hana is entirely frail though, as her high Speed makes her great at avoiding enemy follow-up attacks. As such, she can be built to be deceptively strong defensively, though this requires heavy investment.

Hana is not a complex unit: You send her at things you don’t like and those things will probably cease to exist. However, if she is left in the range of more than one enemy, don’t be surprised if she does not survive the Enemy Phase. Play to her immense strengths and Hana will be able to showcase why she’s so renowned in Hoshido.

Strengths

Great Speed

With a Speed stat of 36, Hana is very fast and can perform follow-up with relative ease. Combined with things such as a Speed Asset, Speed boosting skills, a Speed seal or a refined Speed weapon, Hana can easily reach Speed in the high 40s and can even hit 50 Speed or more with full Speed investment, giving her incredible follow-up potential.

Great Attack

With an Attack stat of 35, Hana is capable of dealing great damage with her attacks. Unlike other 35 Attack sword units such as Ike, Sigurd, and Alfonse, she can benefit more from this high Attack thanks to her higher Speed making it easier for her to perform follow-up attacks.

Hana’s Katana

In the 3.4.0 update, Hana got her own personal weapon known as Hana’s Katana. At base, this weapon is a direct upgrade over her default Armorslayer and Armorsmasher, being a 16mt weapon with armor effectiveness. This alone makes this weapon powerful, especially for high scoring Arena Assault and Aether Raids where armored foes are fairly common.

Hana’s Katana can be refined for typical stat bonuses, but also has the unique option to be refined to grant Hana with the Swift Sparrow skill, boosting Hana’s offensive power when initiating combat. This will benefit Hana regardless of whether or not her foe is armored, making it a worthwhile refine if one uses Hana in a purely Player Phase role.

Weaknesses

Poor Defenses

At 23 Defense and 26 Resistance, Hana is quite frail to both physical and magical damage. Even some of the harder hitting green units are able to deal a good chunk of damage to her despite their weapon triangle disadvantage against Hana.

Mediocre HP

37 HP combined with her poor defenses makes her an easy target should the enemy be able to attack her on enemy phase. Strong lance units and brave weapon users in particular will cut through Hana like paper. Caution is strongly advised if one have to leave her in the range of enemies.
