Passive B: Wings of Mercy / Chill Atk

Passive C: Joint Drive Atk / Ground Orders

Seal: Heavy Blade / Death Blow 3

  • This set grants Quan the flexibility to either dance for his allies or be used as an offensive powerhouse himself, with a very strong Player Phase set.
  • The combination of Brave Bow, Sturdy Impact, and Joint Drive Attack gives a +Atk Quan 63 Attack without buffs. This can often be enough to activate Heavy Blade in his seal slot and grant him a free Moonbow activation on his initiation. For more difficult content with higher Attack values, Quan can instead take a second Death Blow in his seal slot to increase his Attack further by 6.
  • Wings of Mercy in his B slot has a lot of synergy with both Dance and Joint Drive Attack, allowing Quan to teleport to wounded allies and either dance them or grant himself the +5 Attack buff to pick off anything that may threaten them.
  • Alternatively, you could build Quan as more of a rounded tank by improving his Resistance - with a +RES refined Spendthrift Bow and Mirror Impact, Quan gains effectively 13 Resistance while debuffing his opponent's Attack by 7, for a total of 20 Resistance bulk. This allows him to safely initiate on dragons and mages alike and removes one of his major weaknesses in combat, at the expense of the double initiation of Brave Bow.
  • However, both of these build options are very weak during the Enemy Phase, and Quan will have to rely on his high Defense stat to keep him safe.

Passive B: Flier Formation / WIngs of Mercy

  • There are two main ways to build Quan for an Aether Raids Defense. One capitalizes on his HP and Defense values to try and counter both Bridal Fjorm and Mila's Isolation effects, which scale off of HP and Defense, respectively. The other is to have more generalist approach, which sacrifices some HP and Defense for his combat potential against other units.
  • Candlewax Bow is a fantastic option, since it essentially gives him free visible Defense on top of the refine, which goes a long way in countering Mila. In addition to the bow, Quan can take Fort. Def/Res or HP Def for his A slot to further increase his visible Defense. Fortify Def in his Seal slot ensures that he can out-stack even a +10 Mila, preventing her from ever disabling his Dance utility.
  • Quan's main issue when used as an Aether Raids Defense dancer is that his high Attack makes it easy for opponents to bait him, even when stacking Attack-reducing skills, such as Fortress Defense. Due to this, it may be more preferable to lean purely into offense with Atk/Def Bond in his A and seal slot so he truly packs a punch.

Strengths

Flexible Dancer

  • Quan is unique in that he has the highest Attack stat of any dancer in the game at the time of his release. With 41, he is capable of packing a punch, particularly with a weapon like Brave Bow or Spendthrift Bow.
  • He is also a flier, giving him fantastic mobility, as well as offering himself and his team additional mobility through usage of skills like Guidance or Flier Formation.
  • To top it all off, he's a dancer, which always ensures that he is valuable in a team composition.

Minmaxed Statline

  • Quan's Attack is definitely impressive - but almost more impressive is his high Defense stat, which can be used to avoid Mila's Isolation in an Aether Raids Defense team.
  • However, unlike a unit like Masquerade Eldigan, it's difficult for Quan to raise both his Defense and HP enough to avoid both Bridal Fjorm and Mila's Isolation.

Weaknesses

Poor Color Typing

  • Blue is not only the most contested color typing among fliers - among flying ranged dancers alone, Quan has to contest with the likes of Legendary Azura, Peony, and Bridal Ninian - but it's also the least useful color for an Aether Raids defense team, since some of the most popular tanks, including Brave Ike and Brave Edelgard are green.
  • Not having access to colorless makes Quan's impressive Attack stat slightly less valuable, since he loses damage against green units.

Res Weakness

  • Quan's poor Resistance stat of 20 hurts him in several ways. First is the most obvious: he's weak to mages and dragons and will have a difficult time defeating a mage unit if he's not initiating combat or can't defeat them in a single hit.
  • Secondly, he has poor matchups against dragons, who will also attack his weaker Resistance stat, making it difficult to initiate on units who he can't outright KO.
  • When coupled with his high Attack stat, his Resistance makes it very easy to 'bait' him in an Aether Raids defense, as dancers will always prioritize attacking over dancing if they can do at least 5 damage. With Quan's sky-high Attack, doing 5 damage is a given - but with his low Resistance, he's likely to be oneshot in return by any mage or dragon who tries to bait him away from his team.
