  • New Year Velouria excels defensively by merit of her well-distributed statline and the power of her exclusive Renewed Fang, providing a constant source of sustain through consistent healing Special activations. Her four-point +SPD IV is her most generally useful choice to both perform and avoid doubles, but +ATK is also worthwhile for a more damage-heavy set. For the purposes of Aether Raids Offense, one may consider boosting her Resistance instead to help offset its otherwise poor value.
  • New Year Velouria’s native Distant Counter should also be kept to maximize her versatility and let her combat ability extend to all enemy types. Her B slot is quite flexible and most of her options are all equally valid:
    • Her innate Null Follow-Up works well to break through Impact-esque skills and shut down foes with automatic follow-up attacks, being arguably irreplaceable if using her during Light season in AR-O to effectively handle threats like Bramimond
    • For those who favor more OHKO-leaning builds (such as if using a +ATK copy), New Year Velouria may utilize Special Spiral in tandem with Aether for much stronger damage upon counterattacks; however, this does require a bit of setup initially.
    • Lastly, if Dazzling Staff or Firesweep-weapon users are a concern, New Year Velouria can equip Null C-Disrupt to handle such threats and negate their main threatening aspect.
  • Her base Sol pairs wonderfully with her Renewed Fang for instant Special activations upon each counterattack, healing off whatever damage she may have taken during combat. If using Special Spiral in her B slot, New Year Velouria can make great use of Aether; this combination allows her to activate it on each counterattack as well and obtain greater one-shot power.
  • The rest of New Year Velouria’s build is fairly cut and dry: for her C slot, Pulse Smoke is ideal for Aether Raids purposes to shut down Infantry Pulse setups, but otherwise regular stat-targeting Smoke skills or Joint Drive skills are much more applicable. Her Sacred Seal is best occupied by one that enhances her key stats, such as Spd/Res Solo.

  • The applications of Renewed Fang’s effect and New Year Velouria’s exemplary base offenses extend to Galeforce sets as well, and can be put to great use within them; her ability to grant her weapon’s effect to her support partner lets her shine especially bright in Galeforce chains for Aether Raids Offense. A boost to either of her offensive stats with the corresponding IV will work wonderfully here.
  • The primary goal of this set is to take advantage of Galeforce’s self-refreshing quality to narrow in on the enemy composition and quickly sweep through them during the Player Phase. Thankfully, assuming Renewed Fang is active, she can activate Galeforce in a single engagement as long as she performs a follow-up attack.
    • For maximum effectiveness, one can have New Year Velouria initially activate Galeforce on her first hit rather than the second by reducing its base cooldown to two. She can do this herself by equipping both Time’s Pulse in her C slot and Quickened Pulse as her Sacred Seal, or with outside Infantry Pulse support.
  • Since Renewed Fang eliminates the need for her to utilize Heavy Blade or Flashing Blade, New Year Velouria is free to equip a standard offensive stat-boosting skill in her A slot; this includes Atk/Spd Solo, Swift Sparrow, and Atk/Spd Push
  • For her B slot, Wings of Mercy is a common choice for Galeforce AR-O strategies, as this allows New Year Velouria to easily gain close proximity to the enemy team without needing outside assistance (such as Smite). Alternatively, one can use Lull Spd/Def for a more damage-oriented approach, or her base Null Follow-Up to ensure her follow-up attack—something that may be vitally necessary if unable to reduce Galeforce’s cooldown enough to activate it on her first hit.
  • Beyond Time’s Pulse, Joint Drive skills synergize wonderfully with the rest of New Year Velouria’s kit to mutually buff herself, her support ally, and anybody else engaging in the Galeforce chain. These are rather cost-intensive C slot skills, though, so other more readily available candidates include Smoke skills and Savage Blow to improve the quality of New Year Velouria’s subsequent matchups.
  • If one has no need for the Quickened Pulse Sacred Seal, any that augment her offensive stats during the Player Phase may be taken instead.

  • This build focuses on New Year Velouria’s performance during the Enemy Phase once again, but alternatively places a focus on her sheer damage potential thanks to her capacity for rapid Special activations—and powerful ones too upon transforming. A +ATK IV is her ideal choice to supplement her raw damage output as much as possible and enhance her OHKO potential.
  • New Year Velouria’s choice of Special here will depend primarily on the resources one has available—namely, Time’s Pulse. If one has access to Time’s Pulse for New Year Velouria to inherit, Ignis should be taken as she would then be able to activate it on her first counterattack in each Enemy Phase; of all her options, Ignis carries the greatest firepower. If it’s not available, Bonfire or Luna become her options, with the choice depending on personal preference.
  • Her base Distant Counter should once again be kept to retain her versatility. New Year Velouria’s B slot comprises the primary consideration of this build, with Wrath allowing her to maximize her damage upon Special activations for a total of +20 damage when under its HP threshold and transformed.
  • If Time’s Pulse is not an available C slot option, other standouts include Def Smoke and Savage Blow to increase her OHKO potential in subsequent matchups. Any Sacred Seal that enhances her Attack works well here.

Strengths

Renewed Fang

New Year Velouria’s exclusive Renewed Fang constitutes the cornerstone of her strong combat ability through its combination of a built-in Slaying and dual-phase Breath effect; this allows for consistent and rapid Special activations, in addition to providing a great deal of freedom in terms of both her build and the support units she can be paired up with. As an additional bonus, Renewed Fang also inflicts a massive in-combat debuff on her foe’s Attack and Speed, making her deceptively bulky and difficult to double.

Much like her original incarnation, New Year Velouria’s Renewed Fang also reaps advantages for her designated support partner, granting them the same dual-phased Breath effect she benefits from—and unlike Brave Lucina’s refined Geirskögul, this isn’t restricted to a specific weapon type, though it is limited to one ally at a time. Thus, the young Wolfpup can simultaneously serve as a support unit while retaining her considerable combat potential, providing surprising flexibility when it comes to her team’s overall playstyle when utilized carefully.

Excellent Statline

Unsurprisingly, New Year Velouria’s statline is quite good; with the exception of her Resistance, the rest of her stats all range from solid to great and provide a good baseline for her performance in battle. Thanks to this, she can fully capitalize on her weapon’s generalist qualities and handle a variety of different situations relatively well.

Infantry & Beast Benefits

Her infantry status comes attached to great skill access—including but not limited to Time’s Pulse, Special Spiral, and her base Null Follow-Up—which she can utilize to further develop her overall potential. Furthermore, as a beast unit, New Year Velouria also possesses the ability to transform, which in her case grants a sharp +10 damage boost upon each Special activation; this pairs exceedingly well with the Special-oriented nature of Renewed Fang.

Versatile

All of these aforementioned strengths all culminate in New Year Velouria being an incredibly versatile unit; the malleability of her exclusive weapon, statline, and potential build enable her role in a given team to be fairly interchangeable depending on what is needed of her. In this way, one can fine-tune her playstyle to best suit one’s preferred playstyle and the rest of her team.

Weaknesses

Unimpressive Resistance

New Year Velouria’s main weakness is her mediocre Resistance; at a meek base value of 23, magical damage innately poses a considerable threat to her longevity. That being said, her Renewed Fang’s in-combat debuff on her foe’s Attack stat combined with the unlikelihood of her being doubled does lessen the impact of this, though mages with AoE Specials will still be difficult for New Year Velouria to deal with if Pulse Smoke is unavailable.
