Should You Pull Legendary - Ninian: Ice-Dragon Oracle Edition

Submit Feedback or Error

Introduction

IS drops a surprise Legendary on us with Legendary Ninian, to the excitement of some and the sadness of others who wanted Corrin or Robin. Still, is her banner a worthwhile investment overall or a good banner to skip? (I will say poor Ninian’s chances aren’t helped by Arcane Lif’s banner being active at the exact same time and its likely he’s taken people’s orbs already).

Ninian's Value In Aether Raids

Ninian is a Cavalry dancer, which innately gives her excellent use in the mode as cavalry dancers are a vital part of many Aether Raids defense strategies. Beyond that, her exclusive dance skill Dragon’s Dance gives her an additional turn, but the turn is hers instead of another dance and it only works from turn 2 onwards, which can be detrimental for hit and run teams that want to end maps as quickly as possible: but this effect is still fantastic on Aether Raids defense teams where this is not as prevalent of an issue. She’s also able to deny counterattacks of foes she has weapon triangle advantage against or that have a penalty, giving her added initiation safety.

Relevance in Other Modes

Ninian works just fine in most modes. Of note is her utility in PvE, where she makes a great choice of dancer that provides an incredible amount of utility in most situations. She also has inflated BST due to her Legendary status and is one of the highest scoring units in the game, making her an excellent choice of Legendary to +10 for water season.

Banner Color Analysis

Mythic/Legendary banners are always triple focus, which is a bit of a double-edged sword. These banners are generally very volatile due to the triple focus and rates: You could walk away with a significantly higher amount of 5*’s than a normal banner, and one can just as easily end up with almost nothing you actually wanted. This makes the individual color focuses extremely important so as to maximize the value of your pulls. Should you desire to merge a 5* on one of these, may Naga have mercy on you.

On Red, the focuses this time around are Legendary Lilina, Reginn, and Fallen Lilith. Legendary Lilina is an excellent offensive nuke mage featuring an exclusive AoE special with significantly faster cooldown than generic alternatives, as well as a massive Attack stat and a devastating exclusive weapon that gives her a slaying effect, -1 cooldown on the first turn, and +6 Attack and Resistance while also disabling the foes skills that change attack priority such as Vantage. Reginn is a solid Player Phase cavalier mythic whose an excellent choice for Galeforce teams and Hit and Run thanks to her weapon’s inbuilt Canto effect, and Fallen Lilith is an amazing support unit as she can move within 2 spaces of her support partner and additionally grants them and herself Null Follow-Up should she be within 3 spaces of them, allowing her to give Null Follow-Up to units that normally lack access to it or save a B slot skill on an infantry unit.

Blue’s selection of units is Nott, Fallen Ninian, and Legendary Byleth (F). Nott is as powerful as she always was thanks to her strong exclusive skills, and anyone who frequents Aether Raids can tell you the pain she causes thanks to her pathfinder skill alone. Fallen Ninian is another good choice of dancer who buffs her danced ally significantly with Call to Flame, while Enveloping Breath dishes out an additional Attack and Resistance debuff as well as Guard to foes in cardinal directions of her and her target. Compared to Legendary Ninian she has the added bonus of not being locked to a single season as a non Legendary, which can be helpful if one wishes to make more frequent use of her. Legendary Byleth (F) is a great hybrid of offense and utility thanks to her exclusive skills: Goddess Bearer grants herself Null Follow-Up and Orders at the start of the turn, while Professorial Guide negates effects that increase the foe’s special cooldown or slow down her own cooldown, and she gives this effect to allies in combat within 2 spaces of her as well.

Green is the main color, featuring Legendary Ninian, Legendary Xander, and Legendary Byleth (M). Legendary Ninian is the star of the show, featuring an exclusive weapon that prevents the counterattacks of foes with penalties and foes that she has weapon triangle advantage against, as well as a powerful dance that grants her an extra action, albeit limited to turn 2 onward. Legendary Xander’s Ebon Bolverk gives him start of turn Null Follow-Up and a Breatheffect, with an added boost to all stats and incombat healing on top. Chivalry is also an incredible B slot skill, giving him Canto and another large stat swing on his foe as well as damage reduction equal to 50% of the foe’s HP at the start of combat. Legendary Byleth (M) provides Null Follow-Up utility in similar fashion to his counterpart, although Drive Null Follow-Up is superior in some scenarios.

Lastly, Colorless features Ascended Florina, Tine, and Mila. Ascended Florina is an excellent Player Phase unit that gives her allies much greater movement range thanks to her exclusive weapon’s effect, allowing them to move to a space within 2 spaces of Florina as long as they are within 2 spaces of her. Tine is a fairly standard mage nuke, although she also possesses incredibly good skill inheritance in the form of Fury 4, Null Follow-Up, and the rare Blue Feud 3. Mila does what she’s always done: make life much easier for players in Aether Raids Offense by inflicting Isolation on enemy dancers with lower Defense than her own, on top of giving an extra turn to the turn limit.

Should You Pull?

All the colors are relatively desirable, although Green is the clear winner among them all as all three units are great to use and also possess great skill inheritance, Legendary Byleth (M) slightly less so than the other two. All three of blue’s focuses offer great utility, although in terms of skill inheritance, Nott is on the weaker side, only having Distant Counter and Atk/Spd Menace. The Red and Colorless lineups are similarly good with better skill inheritance: but Colorless is overall nothing particularly noteworthy if one possesses Mila already, while Red is best if one wishes to merge Legendary Lilina or Reginn. Overall though, the banner is worthwhile to pull on if you desire merges on the focus legendaries, or a copy of Legendary Ninian is desired. Otherwise, skipping is advisable (and I wager many have skipped this banner considering the arrival of Rearmed Lif).
