Equipment

Overview

M60 is a well-rounded MG with a strong Night-focused Skill, making her a decent filler MG for players who do not have access to better units. Due to her Skill’s long Initial Cooldown, its Night specialization, and her average overall stats, though, she struggles to justify her use, and her average stats only compound this issue. Given the relative accessibility of some passive Skill MGs (such as M2HB and PK) there aren’t many compelling reasons to use M60, but she’s not among the worst the class has to offer.

Strengths

High Damage in Extended Battles

M60’s Skill provides her with a significant damage boost in long battles, particularly at Night.

Decent Formation Buff

M60 has decent tile placement and buffs two SG’s Damage. Although this is not as optimal as an Armor buff, it is still serviceable for most SGs.

Weaknesses

Below Average Damage in Short Battles

The long Initial Cooldown on M60’s Skill means that she is not as powerful in the short single-volley battles that most MG-based Echelons tend to prefer.

Full Analysis

M60 possesses a fairly balanced stat line, with all of her stats either meeting or falling near the MG class averages. Her Accuracy is slightly below average, however, so she falls a bit behind other MGs in terms of base DPS due to her slightly higher miss rate.

M60’s main issue lies in her skill, Damage Focus N. At max level, this skill provides M60 with a substantial 105% Damage boost for 6 seconds during Night battles, or a 35% boost during Day battles. Unfortunately, its long Initial Cooldown of 8 seconds leaves M60 with significantly worse damage scaling compared to MGs with passive Skills. To make matters worse, her Skill is completely unsuitable for the short one-volley battles SGMG Echelons tend to prefer, meaning that it will often not see any use. Since passive MG Skills mitigate this issue and lower rarity passive Skill MGs such as M2HB and PK exist, M60 unfortunately finds herself outclassed by units who are no more difficult to obtain than she is. .

Although not enough to make her top tier, M60’s formation buff is reasonably good, providing boosts to RoF and Damage for two affected SGs. Although not nearly as effective as an Armor buff, the Damage buff is not entirely worthless for most SGs, so at least M60’s buffs have some effect -- even if they don’t offer as much utility as some other MG buffs do.

Overall, M60 can fill a slot in a SGMG Echelon her above average base Damage and decent formation buff if absolutely necessary, but she ultimately falls short of being a good unit due to her subpar Accuracy and the long Initial Cooldown on her Skill. If possible, players should use better passive Skill MG units over M60 when the option is available.

History/Trivia

Since its introduction in 1957, the M60 has served as one of the primary machine guns for every branch of the US military. The M60 was derived in part from the German-made MG42 and largely replaced the M1918 and the M1919 Browning machine guns of World War II, which were considered largely obsolete due to their age. The M60 fulfilled the need for a powerful squad-based machine gun, and has remained popular among American troops as both a general purpose and vehicle-mounted weapon for its long effective range and high caliber rounds.
