Equipment

Overview

QJY-88 has an excellent 15% Armor Buff, making her a valuable addition to an Armor or CE-stacking team due to her great tile coverage. Her high accuracy allows QJY-88 to equip the Crit Rate-boosting VFL sight to improve her burst damage with no noticeable drawback.

Despite all of these considerable benefits, QJY-88 has a notable weakness in her rather low base Damage compared to other MGs, and the long initial cooldown of her Skill causes QJY-88’s first-clip damage to fall far behind that of the Big 4 MGs: M2HB, PK, PKP, and MG5. Commanders not in a hurry to stack Armor for their support Echelon do not particularly need to invest in QJY-88, thanks to the abundance of strong MGs who either outperform her significantly, or provide a similar 15% Armor buff while not suffering the same weak base statline and first-clip Accuracy debuff.

Strengths

Good Accuracy

QJY-88’s Accuracy allows her to retain a decent hit rate against enemies during the day even when equipped with a VFL or EOT sight.

High Ammo Capacity

QJY-88’s magazine capacity of 10 allows her to put out more damage before needing to reload than most other MGs.

Strong Armor Buff Tiles

QJY-88’s Buff Tiles increase SGs’ armor stat by a solid 15%, which is very good for teams that are stacking Armor or Combat Effectiveness Rating.

Weaknesses

Detrimental Passive Ability

QJY-88 has a passive that provides a useless 50% bonus to her Movement Speed at the cost of 20% Accuracy for the first 6 seconds of battle, making her less effective in short encounters.

Poor Damage

QJY-88’s Damage is middling at best, which will make it harder for her to compete with other popular MGs for damage output.

Long Initial Cooldown on active effect

The initial cooldown for the Active part of QJY’s ability is longer than the short fights SGMG teams’ typical strategy dictates, so it has zero impact in those fights.

Full Analysis

QJY-88’s best traits are her Formation Buff, her Magazine Size, and Accuracy. Starting with QJY’s Armor Buff, she provides a hefty 15% Armor buff to the entire front row, which is very valuable to teams who are trying to maximize their Armor or CE. Plus, she possesses a tile shape that is easy and intuitive to use. lets her attack more than most MGs before her reload, which helps keep her dps up despite her low base Damage.

Accuracy is also quite high among MGs, which allows her to equip equip damage boosting Equipment such as EOT Holo Sight, or the Crit Rate-boosting VFL Optic Sight while maintaining her effectiveness. This can set her apart from other low to mid damage MGs who require the Accuracy boost ITI MARS provides to reliably deal damage, as they can’t supplement their damage the same way QJY is able to.

QJY-88’s Passive Ability has two forms that she switches between in battle depending on if she has moved. Her first form, the one she begins battle in, is LMG mode. In this mode, her Accuracy takes a 20% penalty to grant herself a 50% movement speed bonus, so she can reposition herself easier in battle.

If QJY-88 stands still for 6 seconds she switches to HMG mode, which boosts her Accuracy by 30% and number of rounds by 2. Moving while in HMG mode automatically switches QJY-88 to LMG mode, so only command QJY-88 to move out of HMG mode if you have to.

QJY’s biggest weaknesses are her Damage stat and 8 second initial cooldown on her active Ability. QJY’s Damage is mediocre at best, so she will struggle to deal the same damage as other high Accuracy MGs as many of them have higher base Damage and benefit from the same boons that high base Accuracy affords them.

The 8 second initial cooldown on Slothful Rage’s active is arguably QJY’s biggest shortcoming. While 75% extra damage for 6 seconds is powerful when activated, QJY won’t see that happen until after her magazine is emptied. Unfortunately for her, most fights SGMG teams see are over by the end of that first magazine, so she will not see any benefit from the active in those fights.

It should be noted though, that this Skill does find a niche with the long battles often seen by Armor stacking teams. Those battles will always see skills activate, and in particular these damage boosting skills such as QJY-88’s 75% Damage up for 6 seconds are desirable in the Judge fights. These Damage Focus type skills can allow MGs to one-salvo Judge once her shield is broken.

Ultimately, QJY-88 should be prioritized on teams who can appreciate her Armor buff and have plenty of high-DPS MGs. Her sizable 15% Armor buff is hard to resist on those teams, and Armor is an easy way to increase CE of an echelon should that stat be valued. While QJY’s low base Damage hinders her personal damage output somewhat , her high Accuracy and Magazine Size do allow her to put out impressive firepower downrange, especially in fights that last longer than the initial clip.

QJY-88 benefits most from damage buffing shotguns who have high Armor or survivability, such as KSG, Elphelt, M1887, and SAT-8.

HG with strong Damage buffs and optional Accuracy buffs

All MGs pair well with Damage-buffing HGs like Contender, Mk23, and budget options such as M1895 or MP-446

MG with strong Armor buffs

When using QJY-88 on an Armor-stacking team,  armor-buffing MGs with high CE like Negev, Alma, and Ameli are preferred.

MG with high Damage

QJY-88’s low Damage makes allies such as MG5 and PKP all the more important so the echelon can output sufficient DPS.

History/Trivia

The QJY-88 was designed in the late 1980s to replace the obsolete Type 67 that was in service with the People’s Liberation Army. It was designed by Norinco, otherwise known as the China North Industries Corporation. It’s otherwise known as the Type 88 LMG, although the weapon has both a light and heavy configuration to fulfill the general purpose machine gun role.
