T-Doll Analysis

Equipment

Special Equipment
M118LR

Overview

XM3 is a Night specialist RF whose Skill massively increases her own RoF. Like all Night specialists, this has a massive penalty for Day use. As she is also an older RF, she has a terrible 8 seconds ICD because Mica had no idea what they were doing with Night specialists.

Mostly due to her ICD, pre-Mod XM3 is not recommended for use.

Equipment

Special Equipment
M118LR

Overview

XM3’s Mod fixes her biggest issue of an 8 second initial cooldown, and then leans incredibly hard into her night specialization. Her skill 1 gets a more ridiculous rate of fire multiplier, and she deals more critical damage/hits more often at night under certain conditions. Her stats aren’t really changed by her mod though.

Due to the improvements to her skills, XM3 Mod’s DPS at night time is hard to argue with. During the daytime however, XM3 Mod’s performance gets crippled. So for the most part she should be considered a night-specialized generalist RF (a bit of an oxymoron there).

Night battles don’t usually demand a solution like XM3 Mod, but she’s an option for those Commanders with plenty of other units already raised and planning to tackle some difficult night content they know could use her. It’s kind of similar to the attitude towards As Val Mod.

Her mod SPEQ isn't outstanding, so mod 2 is a good stopping point.

Strengths

Strong Multiplier

XM3 has a 100% RoF self-buff.

Weaknesses

Too Long ICD

8 seconds is just too long, especially for RFs who need to end the fight swiftly.

Night Only

As a Night specialist her Skill is practically useless at Day with only a 32% multiplier.

Strengths

Taunt Immunity

XM3 Mod’s skill 1 actively retargets her and ignores things like taunts, so she can potentially ignore enemies like gladiators in favor of the squishier enemies behind them.

Stupidly Massive DPS Increase

Now that her initial cooldown is fixed, XM3 Mod’s 110% rate of fire self boost and flat 20% extra critical damage on first hit lead to some very respectable DPS. For reference, 5*s Lee Enfield and WA2000 only have a 75% buff on their skills, for the same duration and only 1 second faster initial cooldown. A shame it’s still restricted to night.

Sure Hit Mechanic

XM3 Mod ignores enemy evasion for the first shot she lands on any enemy during skill 1. This complements the fact that she’s a night-specialist, and doesn’t really want to be missing her shots.

Weaknesses

Night Specialist

XM3’s rate of fire multiplier on skill 1 and her skill 2 additive crit damage are both restricted to night time. Her DPS shrivels up at daytime, and she doesn’t have anything crazy to help herself out like Type 88 Hanyang Mod’s AOE.

Full Analysis

Alright, full analysis. First, lets cover some boring trivia about XM3 Mod nobody wants to hear:

During Skill 1, XM3 Mod always retargets to the lowest current HP enemy, even if the previous target is not dead.

  • Current HP, not max HP or HP%.
  • Ignores taunts in favor of skill 1 targeting priority.
  • Each activation of skill 1 refreshes the “first attack,” letting XM3 Mod re-activate her skill 2 on enemies she already used it on.
  • Due to spaghetti, XM3 Mod always activates her skill 2 for every shot on bosses during her skill 1’s activation, not just the first shot.
  • Skill 2’s critical damage increase is additive. (i.e. 150% crit damage -> 170% crit damage) It’s calculated after multiplicative buffs like fairy aura and Px4 Storm’s buff. So it’s a lot weaker than you might expect.
  • The sure-hit portion of skill 2 is not restricted to night time, unlike the critical damage.
  • Her SPEQ is actually a downgrade to Sniper Ammo if the enemy has low enough armor.

Just from a raw DPS standpoint, XM3 Mod is genuinely very strong. Her base stats, while barely changed by her mod, are acceptably high. Her skill multiplier out-scales the main 5* RFs by quite a bit. The lowered initial cooldown to 6 seconds absolutely makes her actually useful, because now her skills synchronize with HG skills and she can use it before the fight’s over. The bonus critical damage and sure-hits are icing on the cake. Bullet cake? Gunpowder flour? Whatever.

XM3 Mod’s mod SPEQ only gives +6 FP compared to sniper ammo’s +10. So sniper ammo is superior against lower armor.

Utilitywise, XM3 Mod has a couple interesting applications.

Her priority of the enemy with the lowest HP can let her finish off the more dangerous enemies instead of the tanky enemies, even when the enemy has a taunt to distract. Enemies like gladiators or smashers. This can also backfire if the most dangerous enemies aren’t the lowest HP ones of course, like strelets mixed with gunners.

Her sure-hit on the first shot can deal with more evasive enemies more easily, but since she’s not a firepower self-buffer, it more likely than not won’t be the killing blow.

Since her skill 2 bonus never wears off on bosses while her skill 1 is up, XM3 Mod transforms into a lean, mean, boss-killing machine once all the boss’s squishier escorts are dead. A permanent flat 20% crit damage bonus and she never misses, because every shot activates her skill 2. If the boss is relying on their evasion and it being night time, sucks to be them.

History/Trivia

The XM3 rifle is an improvement upon the M40A3 rifle system used by the United States Marine Corps, intended to reduce the weight, length, and noise, along with improved field of view. Developed from 2005 to 2006 by DARPA, the XM3 delivered on its stated goals, as well as being able to mount a suppressor, day and night optics, and intended to be used with a bipod.

While well liked by its users, the XM3’s limited production and semi-official nature meant that some problems with its usage emerged, and in 2014, they were transferred to the US Army, where they were sold via the Civilian Marksmanship Program, making them rare commodities on the commercial market, fetching considerable sums when they do appear.
