Overview
Almost everything about MG4 makes her an uncompelling choice of MG.
MG4’s stats, overall, are terrible. She has one of the worst Damage stats out of all MGs -- resting at 84, it significantly hurts her damage output. Although MG4 does have a high Accuracy which allows her to equip better accessory-type equipment, such as EOT Sights or VFL Scopes, her Skill is just as bad as her stats. While the actual Skill itself isn’t all that bad, increasing the ammo in her volley and her Damage for 8 seconds, as it has an 8 second Initial cooldown, it sees virtually no use in practical situations. All these factors unfortunately combine to make MG4 one of the worst 5 star units ingame

Overview
As one of the most underwhelming MGs in GFL, MG4 desperately needed a boost from her Neural Upgrade. Fortunately for her, this Neural Upgrade does deliver, with a caveat that it does require her to be Mod 3 and use her Special Equipment. While MG4’s Mod 2 is still a nice boost it ultimately doesn’t give her enough extra oomph to be worth it on its own. As such, this analysis will be predicated on taking MG4 to Mod 3 and using her Special Equipment.
From the off, MG4 gets herself some serious stat boosts from her Neural Upgrade, totaling 9 Damage and 4 Accuracy across all three upgrades, as well a very welcome Armor tile boost. While the Accuracy isn’t a major bonus, Damage goes a long way to patching up MG4’s lackluster base Damage, especially with the improved version of Lock and Load that MG4 gets with her upgrade. As an MG, she doesn’t care about the boosts to HP, RoF, or Evasion. Her tiles get a buff as well, pushing to a nice 18% Armor tile, All of this pales in comparison to the real star of the show here, MG4’s Skill 2 ‘Haunted House Hammer’, when combined with her Special Equipment.
Starting from the top, MG4’s Skill 2 finally gives some value to Lock and Load, making the additional bullets it grants deal additional damage equal to up to 25% of the excess AP. If an enemy has 100 Armor, MG4 will get 25% of 500 as additional Damage. This even applies to unarmored units which means MG4 gets a wonderful 150 bonus Damage against targets without a base Armor value. This goes hand in hand with the next big boost MG4 gets.
Note: This extra Ammo effect applies to any kind of extra ammo, not just the ammo granted by Lock and Load. While this is not valuable now, it does have some tiny value when SPAS-15 is eventually released on EN.
MG4’s free SLAP Ammo comes with a side benefit, by causing every shot she fires to ricochet up to three times, dealing 10% of MG4’s Damage per hit. While this Damage is not massive, across MG4’s entire belt, it adds up to a nice boost in damage across entire groups of enemies. The Range on the ricochet is equally impressive hitting anything that is inside the firing range of your Echelon. Thus, it won’t be damaging enemies who are still walking into the fight but it can absolute chip away at backline enemies such as Gunners while the bigger frontline units are beaten down.
In sum, MG4 is a strong MG4 with Skills to help her fight both large swarms of enemies, and against the increasingly beefy armored targets that modern GFL throws in front of us. Her other attributes, such as an Armor tile, help to carve her a small but potent niche for those willing to put in the massive expense to get her up to speed.
Strengths
High Accuracy
MG4’s decently high Accuracy allowing her to forgo an ITI Sight and equip EOT Sights, or even VFL Scopes at times. These two pieces of Equipment help her boost her Damage or Crit Rate, further boosting her damage output.
Armor Buff Tile
MG4’s buff tile offers the second highest boost to Armor in the game after Negev, and Armor buffs are the only buffs that make an impact on SGs.
Weaknesses
8 Second Initial Cooldown
While MG4’s Skill itself isn’t the worst, as it has an Initial Cooldown of 8 seconds, it rarely gets to see use.
Low Damage
MG4 has an abysmal Damage stat, which makes her DPS a lot lower than it needs to be.
Full Analysis
MG4 offers almost no notable strengths, making her among the worst 5 star units have to offer
The first quality that makes MG4 ineffective is her terrible stat distribution. MG4 has one of the highest RoF and Evasion out of MGs, both of which are useless stats for MGs. In exchange for high values in these two stats, MG4 has low Damage, which is one of the most important stats for MGs. Additionally, while other 5 star MGs have 11 shots per volley, MG4 only has 9, which significantly decreases her per-volley damage output. MG4’s stats do have a positive aspect, that being her Accuracy. MG4 has a high Accuracy at 34, which allows her to use different accessories compared to other MGs to increase her Damage and Crit Rate. The difference in DPS made by these pieces of Equipment, however, isn’t anywhere enough to make up for the loss in DPS caused by her other lacking stats.
The second quality that makes MG4 ineffective is her Skill. The buff the Skill provides isn’t terrible by itself -- granting MG4 4 additional ammo per volley and a 35% Damage buff -- but its 8 second Initial Cooldown and short 8 second uptime means it will only activate in her second volley and therefore won’t see use in most battles.. Since most battles involving MGs end within one volley and long battles involving MGs usually end in three volleys, the fact that MG4’s Skill activates so late makes it awkward to use regardless of the circumstances.
One thing to note about MG4 is that she has the second highest Armor tile buff in the game, offering a 15% buff to Armor. Due to this, she is sometimes -- though very rarely -- used in Echelons in order to boost a tank’s Armor as much as possible. In long battles against enemies with high Damage, MG4’s Armor buff can compensate for her other weaknesses, though not by much. As MG4 still deals pitiful damage, though, it’s almost always still a better choice to use an MG that can deal more damage and has a weaker tile buff, or even another MG that just deals more damage, entirely forgoing the Armor tile. While Armor tiles make a good MG’s kit even better, it isn’t a good enough feature to save MG4.
Overall, MG4 is one of the worst units in the game, with no distinct specialties and weaknesses that far outscale her strengths. In almost every circumstance, it’s advisable to use another MG altogether.
Strengths
Pseudo-AoE Ricochet
Thanks to her ricochet, MG4 gets a quasi-AoE Damage that adds a not insignificant amount of chip damage across an entire enemy gorup. Against unarmored targets in particular, this is quite potent as MG4 gets a periodic extra 15 Damage to the chip just from her over penetration value.
Free SLAP Ammo
Given the difficulty some Commander can have with obtaining SLAP Ammo, MG4 coming with a SLAP at Mod 3 is a welcome boon.
Weaknesses
Expensive:
Not only is MG4 a 5* mod, but she also needs Mod 3, meaning she takes a giant pile of Neural Fragments, Cores, and 10 FCCs that could have done other mods, such as G11 or 416.
MG class
Being an MG remains a bit of a liability in GFL, as many enemy groups are too big to burst down in a single volley and while the arrival of LTLX and several shotgun mods gives us better duriblity options, MGs as a class still do not see massive use.

Team Options
SGs That Buff Accuracy/Damage
Like all MGs, MG4 gets the most mileage out of Accuracy and Damage buffs. As MG4 has a low base Damage stat, Damage buffs are favored. Some examples are KSG and M37.
HGs That Buff Accuracy/Damage
Likewise, MG4 appreciates Accuracy and Damage buffs from HGs.. As MG4 has high Accuracy and low Damage, however, she prefers Damage buffs. HGs that could be used with her are SAA, Mk23, and Grizzly.
MGs
As with all MGs, it doesn’t matter which MGs MG4 is paired with -- it should be considered, however, that as MG4 deals little damage by herself, she should be put with stronger MGs in order to compensate. PKP, MG5, and PK are good partners for her.

In a typical 2SG echelon, MG4 can be placed in the middle left in order to grant both SGs Armor buffs. Instead of using three MG in the backline, an HG can be used in the middle column instead as MG4 takes up the slot normally occupied by the HG.
