Overview

PP-90 is, overall, a pretty cute doll to look at, and that, is a major plus. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end for the Ranko-looking SMG. Her Evasion is the second highest out of all SMGs, but her HP is fairly low, making it incredibly difficult for her to tank effectively. Her tiles also aren't really anything that redeem her either, giving a relatively small 8% Damage and 20% Evasion buff to ARs -- which means the biggest buff she gives is essentially wasted, since ARs don’t need to dodge anything. Worse still, her Skill, which gives a 45% increase to her Evasion for 15 seconds, is the lowest percentile increase for Evasion out of every SMG with this type of Skill, meaning she doesn't do well in most situations. The additional Skill uptime over her peers PP-90 possesses doesn't help either, since battles should not be lasting that long in the first place. Overall, there really is nothing PP-90 does well, or even decently, other than, of course, being nice to look at. Among four star SMGs, she definitely doesn’t stand out, especially when compared to vastly superior units like UMP45 or even MP5, who at least has a situationally useful gimmick.

Strengths

Cute

PP-90 has nice silver drill hair, a huggable face, and short shorts. All to help you forget you got a pretty bad SMG. At least she isn't another MP5.

Weaknesses

Awful Skill

PP-90's skill is a 45% increase to her Evasion stat for 15 seconds after an Initial Cooldown of 4 seconds. This percent increase is much lower than FMG-9's and Suomi and the increased uptime does not make up for it.

Terrible Stats

PP-90 has the second highest Evasion stat but is on the lower end in terms of HP, which makes it difficult for her to tank against anything that has decent accuracy.

Mediocre Tiles

PP-90 formation tile buffs are a paltry 8% increase to Damage and 20% increase to Evasion. Due to how ARs want buffs that increase DPS, the Evasion buff is useless.

Full Analysis
PP-90's stats are nothing spectacular. Her 795 total HP at max link is one of the lowest among SMGs hampers her ability to perform in the main tank role she’s meant to fill, and her 86 Evasion, while seemingly balancing out this factor, unfortunately is not enough to save her either due to one big problem.

PP-90’s Skill significantly holds her back, as it does nothing to help her at least be a good dodge tank. Granting a 45% increase to her Evasion for 15 seconds after a 4 second Initial Cooldown, this Skill features the lowest increase to Evasion out all SMG EVA buff Skills. It is “compensated” by having a long uptime, but most decent Echelon compositions will have a battle be long over by the time the 19-second mark elapses. Moreover, the small impact of this self-buff means that PP-90 will likely be taking more damage than another SMG would -- a disastrous prospect, given how low her HP is.

Potentially the least bad of all her negative qualities are PP-90's buff tiles, but that’s not saying much. While the layout is fine, the tiles give ARs a meager 8% buff to their Damage and a 20% buff to Evasion -- which means that PP-90’s most significant buff is essentially useless, as ARs shouldn’t be tanking anything.

Overall, these factors make PP-90 is a poor option of main tank. Her Evasion being well above average is countered by her Skill not making good use of it, and her low HP holds her back even more. If one desires to have a dodge tank badly, Suomi, FMG-9, or even the dreaded cat IDW are all more effective options. There is one positive to PP-90, however, that the other three do not possess...
Which is really cute silver drill hair. Oh well.

Team Options

ARs with Good DPS

Since PP-90 has subpar tanking ability, ending battles quickly will keep her from having to perform her job for an extended period of time. ARs such as G11, M4A1, and FNC fill this role.

Secondary SMGs

Again, due to PP-90's less than desirable tanking ability, secondary tanks are a good idea to employ while using her. SMGs such as UMP45, Vector, and RO635 will be able to make up for her deficiencies.

History/Trivia

The Russian Submachine Gun PP-90 was designed in the 1990’s. It came into production as a means for special units of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs to deal with unusual situations where a firearm is required in close quarters. It’s notable that -- like the FMG-9 of similar design -- the PP-90 folds up so that it can be stored out of sight. Another notable aspect to the firearm is that it’s designed so that while folded up it is completely impossible to fire, preventing any accidental discharges.
