About Servant NPs

I'm a bit confused as to how NP levels and Overcharge work.

Assuming that I have a servant whose level 1 NP deals 100% base damage, how would a level 3 or higher NP be different?

Would the damage dealt and effects be three times greater if the NP gauge is only filled at 100%? Or would the bonuses only apply during an Overcharged gauge at 300%?

Damage scales higher based on NP level regardless of how full the NP gauge is. For example, NP1 might be 600% damage while NP 2 is 750%. Even if the gauge is charged to 300% and goes last in an NP chain to bring it to overcharge 500%, the damage would still be the same

Overcharge only affects some or all secondary effects. DEF down debuffs, charm/death chance, etc... The higher the overcharge, he stronger the effect or the higher the chance of debuffing.

Thanks. That makes a lot more sense considering that there are times when I tried to charge my team's NP level to the max lol.

You're welcome. I pretty much thought the same when I started, always trying to max the NP gauge as much as possible and using NP chains to max out the overcharge. Didn't realize until much later that it didn't make any difference for NP damage. XD

This also confused me when I started, and if the site maintainers read this, I feel part of the confusion stems from the fact that in the servant profiles, the NP and OC chart are put together as one contiguous table. IMHO, there should be a visual separation between the two sections to make it clear that there is no relationship.

And FYI, since there are non-damaging NPs as well, you need to look at the charts or the NP descriptions to tell you what part scales with NP level vs OC because in these cases it might not be obvious.

Also, there are some OC effects that do very much affect the damage done. Sometimes it's a DEF down effect applied before the NP, sometimes it's special damage (e.g. Jack or Robin Hood). In these cases you do want to OC as much as possible on a boss because it can make a tremendous difference.

Yeah the charts actually made things more confusing for me lol. What you said on the last part was also a great tip regarding the OC effects of some servants. I'll keep it in mind.

Other servants have OC that boost damage by applying some sort of attack buff before firing the np like kintoki rider and saberlot. Except for those few cases, higher level is much more damaging than OC.

In fact some OC effects are downright useless. Mordred: strength up against Arthurs...a rare enemy that you are usually better off with a ST np to fight. Santa Lily: increase healing effectiveness...but only for current turn so must be followed by a healing np to be utilized.

Took me a long time to realize np brave chains usually do more damage than np chains because most np's OC don't increase damage and np's don't benefit from the first card bonus.

Could be an multi-turn heal as well, and with Merlin around, the odds are that one might have been applied already. But it's still not much of an OC effect.

Another one I don't use all that often is one that recharges the NP unless it's by a lot. Right now, most of my battles end with the NP. I can see this changing with the break bars though. Medea is about the only one I spam NPs with.
