The Modern Magus Magazine

I frankly wasn’t expecting a 1-Servant banner here, and no, Tlaloc getting an immediate rerun doesn’t count.

Guess my boy Camazotz is going in the “NPC-only Servant that will probably be thrown into a miscellaneous event banner” bin for now.

On the plus side, it means I can get this MMM out quickly, right? Surely I won’t take half a week to write this thing, no?

…Hah.

NA Release Date: 02/2025
Introduction

I’m gonna be honest, I didn’t know until now that the Mayans and Aztecs shared deities kind of like the Romans / Greeks did, or to a lesser extent the Assyrians and Mesopatamians and the Greeks.

So she’s a different flavored Quetzalcoatl. Yep. Nothing else. Don’t ask why she’s a Foreigner. And don’t ask me why Daybit is crying about his Spider waifu, he’ll cheer up when he can skateboard off a step-pyramid.

Overview

I gotta say, it took a long time for the Foreigner class to actually display its real potential statlines, when we’ve been plagued with a lot of Foreigners with poor Parameters for so long to muddy the waters.

With the best Attack stat of any 5* Foreigner and the tied-2nd worst HP stat, Kukulkan is offensively leaned to a fine degree, and doesn’t lose out too much on HP for it - 13k HP base is practically average, but 12.5k attack is a good margin above average for a typical Servant.

Given the Foreigner class’s tendencies, you would assume Kukulkan has a bajillion passives, no? Well…she has 2. But they’re goddamn amazing ones.

Civilization Creation is the lesser of the two, providing an Item Creation-style debuff success rate buff to the team while she’s on field, slightly increasing the consistency of your party’s debuffs. Nothing crazy, but certainly nice to have around.

“???” (This is the actual name of the skill if you haven’t cleared LB7, as its true nature is a spoiler), however, is without a doubt the best passive in the game. Providing 10 Critical Stars and 3% NP gauge every turn when she’s on the field is already great, essentially providing a free Fragments of 2030 for herself, but it also automatically converts all Invincible buffs applied to herself into Anti-Enforcement Defense, or Special Invincible if you think that name is dumb.

It’s the Castoria NP Invuln, if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

Being able to turn not only the Invincible buff in her own kit, but those provided by allies, into the type that bypasses Invincible Pierce and other similar effects, is spectacular, though it can occasionally be a drawback - since this means Kukulkan essentially can’t receive Invincible buffs, if paired with Castoria you might have issues with doubling up on Special Invincible, causing a defensive cooldown to be wasted, whereas other Servants can stack up, say, Reines’s Invincible buff under Castoria’s buff, to provide 2 layers of protection.

But no doubt, Kukulkan has an incredible baseline to work with.

Conclusion

So how is Kukulkan, all things considered? Well on the one hand, she’s out of this world:

In general, Kukulkan just has everything. Insane offensive profile, whether you’re taking her for farming or difficult content, a fine array of supportive tools to either apply to herself or her team, some of the best durability of any Servant in the game, and a fun gimmick to put those perks to use by expending (often excess) critical stars. While she might lack the theoretical peaks of some other high-profile Servants in the game, she simply has so much in so many places it’s impossible for her to not be useful most of the time.

While not the greatest at it, Kukulkan is a fine universal farmer, especially since she doesn’t demand Black Grail for her best setup, though that’s twisting the truth a little - she’d really appreciate Black Grail if she could run it. In her standard setup she does more than enough damage to clear all but the hardest farming nodes, and even then her wide-reaching effective damage buffs will mean she can probably farm those, too.

As an individual point, Kukulkan is now the second Servant to have some form of access to Castoria’s Invincible buff, even if it can only be applied to herself. If some kind of infuriatingly difficult boss like Arjuna Alter from LB3 with permanent Invincible Pierce and insane offense crops up again, she’ll be a vital pick for that sole reason, which puts her in a unique and powerful niche.

On the other hand, she’s all heart, though I suppose in her case that’s a bad thing(?):

The biggest thing holding Kukulkan back is frankly the Foreigner class. For difficult content it’s perfectly fine, providing defensive perks for otherwise-daunting Berserker bosses, and that occasionally-important class advantage versus Pretenders, but for farming, compared to most other Extra classes, she packs average offensive stats for no “real” class advantage, unlike Pretenders or Alter Egos. It makes her more versatile, sure, but even a 1.5x multiplier to her damage could go a long way to compensating for her lack of Black Grail setups. I'm quite aware this is a nitpick.

Well, the SSR’s for this story chapter have just been back-to-back bangers. It’s almost like they had to try their hardest to one-up Tezcatlipoca with this one, with Kukulkan also packing an incredible offensive profile, strong defensive tools, and consistent farming that transcends class.

She farms well, she crits easily, and when she does hit, Kukulkan punches like a bullet train that’s been fired out of the Black Barrel, colliding head-first into the frailest thing you can imagine - Mandricardo’s self-esteem. There are very few Servants out there who can boast similar damage peaks, consistency, and high-difficulty quest performance in combination, and even being compared to Melusine is pretty high praise, here.

Hell, Kukulkan has a pretty good case for being the most versatile Servant to tackle “any” high-difficulty quest in the game, so in that sense she has Melusine’s relatively weak scope outside of farming or 3-turn speed kills beat.

Kukulkan is easily the best Foreigner in the game, and even trounces the competition by a very respectable margin. She should be on your radar whether your selection in the class is weak or not, simply because she does so much. Rath™ Seal of Approval, with a recommendation.

Outro

A bit of a short one, but Kukulkan does have a lot to cover, so it probably evens out.

I wasn’t sure where to put it, but for a woman who claims to not have an understanding of human love, she really is horny on main, huh? Is it a winged serpent deity thing, or a God thing? At this point I have no clue.

With this out the way, and speaking of lust, we’re closing in rapidly on Valentines’, and we already know the upcoming SSR for the event. At this point I’m almost praying for Johanna to be mediocre, simply because my Quartz reserves desperately need a break.

…At least it’s not the marathon that was LB6’s back-to-back bangers of Koyanskaya, Morgan, Melusine, then Oberon. Lord was that devastating to get through if you wanted good Servants in your collection.

I’ll be greeting you all in the next MMM very shortly!
