Introduction

Explorers!

Welcome to Jurassic World Alive. If you're a brand new player and want to know more about the Arena, this is the place to start -- our Battle Basics Guides. We've got a bunch of them here at GamePress and you can check out the full suite of them below alongside with our Beginners Guides.

Stunning and Slowing are two move effects that are in the game. They are quite common in the Arena, so understanding them well is essential to make them work to their full potential. Stunning has two different ‘situations’ which I’ll talk about, and after that I’ll explain how Slowing works and how you can use it to its full potential.

Stunning

First, I’m going to explain Stunning. Stunning is a move effect in JWA that is mostly found on Ceratopsians and Hadrosaurs. It causes the opponent to not being able to move for 1 turn. This could be useful to stall out a turn of positive effects like Ready To Crush or Ferocity, but it could also be used to chip away at the opponents Health for free! Stunning most of the time has a 75% chance of happening, so there are cases where you won’t get a Stun! Immune dinosaurs can’t even get stunned at all!

Now let’s go over the two situations that I was talking about before. These situations all have to matter with which dinosaur is faster: the opposing creature, or the creature trying to stun the opponent. First, I’ll go over the situation when you are faster.

If you use a Stunning move on a creature when you are faster, you’ll make the opponent not able to move for the turn. The opposing dinosaur won’t use a move that turn and then you’ll be able to select a move again.

Stunning - 1

When you are slower than the opposing dinosaur and stun the opponent, the opponent won’t be able to attack the turn after. They won’t be able to select a move. Instead, a bar with the message ‘End turn’ appears, locking up their moves. They are still able to switch, but they aren’t able to attack you.

Slowing

Slowing Icon

Slowing is a move effect that a lot of Sauropods and Stegosaurids have. It reduces the opponents Speed stat by 50% for a set amount of turns. So if your dinosaur was 120 Speed without the Slowing effect, with the Slowing effect its Speed is 60! Basically it halves your opponents’ Speed! The effects can be added up, so with two Slowing moves the Speed drops to 0! How cool is that!

So when you slow the opponent, it’s pretty much guaranteed that you are faster for at least one turn. You could use this to put on some big damage. For example, the Epic Hybrid Stegoceratops has Slowing Impact and two Stunning moves. It can use those two Stunning moves first because it has slowed the opponent first! In Arena terms this is called ‘Stunlocking’, making your opponent not move at all for a couple of turns while racking up some big damage.

Another situation you could use Slowing for, and this is by far the most common use, is to slow down those pesky fast creatures like raptors! It’s fantastic to see those buggers be the slowest dinosaurs instead of the fastest dinosaurs! In the screenshot down below, you’ll see how the Slowing effect looks in the Arena.

You can see the Slowing effect in the Arena due to the dinosaurs getting red lines besides them that go backwards. Almost towards the player itself. It symbolizes the dinosaur getting dragged down and being slowed down.

But you’d have to be careful with the Slowing effect. There are some things you need to keep in mind. First: Immune dinosaurs cannot be slowed down. Second: the Slowing effect can be Cleansed away by moves such as Regeneration and Cleansing Strike. Third: if the opposing dinosaur also affects you with a Slowing effect, the two sort of cancel each other out, making the fastest dinosaur move regardless of the Slowing effect inflicted.

In Conclusion

So that basically covers these two effects! I hope you found this Guide useful! Be sure to check out our other Beginners Guides and other content as well! We try to keep you as up-to-date as possible with all events and thing JWA so join our discord for more discussion.
