Introduction

Explorers! Welcome to the Dinosaur Battle Profiles. In this series we will go over a dinosaur and give you all the battle-related info you want to know about. Matchups, stats, moves, team members, how to counter/use it; you name it, we got it! The best thing about this series is that the dinosaur is picked by the members of our Discord server! So if you aren’t on there, what are you waiting for! There will be a link to join at the bottom of the article, and then you can decide too on what dinosaurs will be covered!

This week, we’re covering Carnotarkus! This powerful High Apex Rending Stegosaurid is a good anti-tank creature while also being able to tank some good hits itself! It is often considered as one of the best if not the best counters to Ardentismaxima and Geminititan, so this Legendary creature surely has to be interesting! Let’s take a look at its stats by using this terribly compiled infographic I made (I really need to learn how to photoshop)!

Disclaimer: We’ve just released our 1.10 Tier List, and Carnotarkus has moved up to High Apex, however in the infographic it says Mid Apex due to the fact that it was Mid Apex in our previous Tier List.

This information is brought to you by the official JWA Field Guide!

As you can see, Carnotarkus is very similar to its hybrid component Purutaurus except for some key differences: higher Attack, 20% Armor and Superiority Strike! This makes this Stegosaurid a force to be reckoned with, because it can survive hits better, dish out more damage and most importantly: win speed wars! Let’s get more in depth on this creature!

How does Carnotarkus function?

How to effectively use it

Carnotarkus has a kit that is focused around dealing as much Rending Counterattacks as possible while also being able to dish out good damage with its Precise Rampage. Long Protection and Instant Distraction give it amazing survivability, while Greater Rending Counterattack and Precise Rampage are sure to hurt anyone who opposes it! Superiority Strike also allows it to cleanse its Distraction and slow the opponent down to afterwards finish them with a Precise Rampage! We prefer to bring in Carnotarkus when the opponent is slowed and in range of a Long Protection kill. That way, you are certain that the next dinosaur will have at least some trouble taking it down! Otherwise, bringing Carnotarkus in against a powerful high Health tank is also very useful, as it can dispatch of it relatively safely! Even the mighty Geminititan will tremble when Carnotarkus enters the field against it!

Good matchups

Carnotarkus has some amazing matchups against some of our high-ranked creatures. For example, it does very well against Geminititan, Ardentismaxima and Trykosaurus! It will also do well against armored tanks like Stegodeus, Smilonemys and Tragodistis due to the fact that the Counterattack pierces Armor! With the Armor and Slowing moves it has it will also do well against speedsters like Erlidominus, Erlikospyx and Diloracheirus!

Bad matchups/Counters

However, every dinosaur has its weaknesses. Carnotarkus for example will be prone to be revenge killed by a faster dinosaur when its Instant Distraction is not working or if the opponent is Immune. Tryostronix and Indoraptor G2 will be very lethal to Carnotarkus, the former being able to set up on it with Ready to Crush, while the latter is Immune to Distractions and can easily Distract, Cleanse, Speedup and Dodge due to Cautious Strike (man that move needs a nerf)! Other counters to it are creatures like Spinonyx, who is Immune to Deceleration and can inflict DoT on Carnotarkus, as well as Spinotasuchus if you need a check to it, as it will mostly die against Carnotarkus. Indominus Rex G2 is also a good counter with its Immunity, Definite Strike and two boosting moves. Finally, there’s Postimetrodon, who can Regenerate some Health while avoiding damage! Unfortunately we won’t have our Battle Sim results, as we recently discovered a bug involving Shield Breaking Counterattacks! This includes Carnotarkus, and we want to give you the best information, so we won’t include it this time! We hope you understand!

Team mates

Carnotarkus’ team revolves around dinosaurs that appreciate the big Immune Sauropods getting removed, so pretty much 95% of all dinosaurs are good team mates. Dinosaurs that these big Sauropods counter are great team mates, as they can run wild once those big tanks have gone. Erlidominus, Procerathomimus, Quetzorion; all are great dinosaurs that would prefer having big tanks gone. Debuffing creatures like Pterovexus, Stygidaryx and Erlikospyx also appreciate this due to the fact that another Immune dinosaur is gone! Swappers can swap into Carnotarkus and do another 33% damage to the opponent, so it can pair nicely with them as well! Lots of options over here!

Parting Words

And that’s it! So how good is Carnotarkus actually? Really good. Being one of the most reliable counters to tanky high Health creatures gives it an unique niche in the meta, as the two big Sauropods really do rule the meta at the moment. Being able to do high damage regardless of the opponents Health makes Carnotarkus a force to be reckoned with.

This is a  weekly series in which you can decide what dinosaur is featured next! You can do so by voting on the poll we have on the Discord server! I put up a couple of dinosaur names and you vote for it! And if you want to help out, reach out to me and you’ll get a shout out in the article! Let’s make this series awesome together!
