Explorers! Welcome to the Dinosaur Battle Profiles. In this series we will go over a dinosaur and give you all the battle-related info you want to know about. Matchups, stats, moves, team members, how to counter/use it; you name it, we got it! The best thing about this series is that the dinosaur is picked by the members of our Discord server! So if you aren’t on there, what are you waiting for! There will be a link to join at the bottom of the article, and then you can decide too on what dinosaurs will be covered!

Today we will be looking at the only Unique Croc in the game: Grypolyth! This mega crocodile has been changed a couple of times since its debut and now is one of the most annoying Counterattackers to date with its Rending Counterattack, Regeneration and Immobilize! Let’s get into the article itself by starting off with an awesome profile made by our artist Orange Rex!

Grypolyth Stats and Moves

As you can see, Grypolyth has solid defensive options while also being able to whittle away the opponent slowly with its Counterattack. Immobilize makes sure that the opponent cannot get out, while Long Protection and Regeneration allow it to remain healthy throughout the battle! Defense Shattering Strike and Rending Counterattack also give it solid Shield Breaking and Armor Piercing potential too. So let’s see how it does in the arena.

How does the Dinosaur function

How to effectively use it

Grypolyth is a self-sustaining Counterattacker, meaning that it can take care of itself Health wise. Your best bet on using Grypolyth is to use it against creatures that cannot pierce Armor and break Shields. An Erlidominus for example will not like facing a Grypolyth with a Shield up! Try and pin the opponent down with Immobilize whenever you can to prevent them from switching out and then continue by whittling them down slowly while Regenerating when your Health is low. Try and rack up that Counterattack damage while taking as little damage as possible due to Long Protection and Regeneration. You want that Counter to be as effective as possible, so try and Cleanse any Distraction that is heading your way! Immobilize will help you immensely with getting that Regeneration off cooldown, and if the opponent swaps in a dinosaur when you Immobilize, they are screwed for a turn to do what you want. So in short: Immobilize, put up Shields and Regenerate when Health is low or when Distracted.

Good matchups

Grypolyth will do well against anything that doesn’t remove Shields or pierces Armor. So you can use it against pretty much anything that isn’t a Chomper or Nullifier. Tanks like Stegodeus, Gigaspikasaur and Tragodistis will absolutely drop to Grypolyth as they cannot do the damage to KO it in a few amount of turns. It can also do relatively well against speedsters like Diloracheirus or Utarinex, but it needs to beware of the Distraction they can inflict on it. The Rending Counter is the key to beating most opponents damage wise. However, be sure to stay Healthy as long as possible with the Shield and Regeneration! Those two moves are key to beating a lot of opponents, as Grypolyth simply refuses to die with those to moves ready.

Bad matchups

Very easy to talk about this one. Grypolyth absolutely HATES seeing a Chomper like Thoradolosaur or Tenontorex come out. They pierce its Armor, destroy its Shields and generally don’t care about the Lockdown or Stun made by Immobilize unless it is when they are on lower Health. Creatures that don’t even care about the Immobilize are creatures like Tryostronix and Magnapyritor, which will also do well against Grypolyth. However, they will lose a lot of Health while taking care of Grypolyth. You can always do some damage to the opponent, even when they are counters!

Team Mates

Grypolyth can take care of tanks and other defensive creatures and speedsters. So your team wants members that can profit from this. Erlidominus and Diloracheirus definitely profit from this and they can also Run into Grypolyth to rack up the damage with the Rending counter! As Grypolyth also dispatches those annoying speedsters, chompers will also benefit from it. Therefore, creatures like Trykosaurus, Tenontorex and Thoradolosaur also will be very useful to have on your team! Finally, Dracoceratops and Monostegotops can also be used as a means to finish off a faster opponent when Grypolyth is about to die. Lots of possibilities here!

Parting Words

And that’s the end of this weeks edition of Dinosaur Battle Profiles! Grypolyth is an awesome dinosaur that can cause a lot of trouble when unprepared for! It has its weaknesses, but all creatures do. A worthy addition to anyone’s team if you are able to get it! Dinosaur Battle Profiles is a weekly series in which you can decide what dinosaur is featured next! You can do so by voting on the poll we have on the Discord server! I put up a couple of dinosaur names and you vote for it! And if you want to help out, reach out to me and you’ll get a shout out in the article! Let’s make this series awesome together!
