This time, you guys voted on Utasinoraptor! This Legendary creature has been a fan favorite for a long time, so it’s no surprise that this would be the first one to be chosen! Utasinoraptor and its hybrid Utarinex are both very powerful creatures, and some people chose Utasinoraptor over its Unique hybrid to play with in the arena! Why? Let’s find out together. First off, we’ve got another awesome Dinosaur Profile for you! Huge shout out to our artist Orange Rex for making this incredible profile!

How does the dinosaur function?

As a very quick disclaimer: when I talk about matchups, I take Friendly battle status in account. So no boosts, equal levels. Got it? Awesome. Let’s go.

How to effectively use it

So me and the Discord users had a chat, and we unanimously agreed that Utasino functions best as an opener. With great Speed, an awesome Attack stat and a moveset to back that Attack up, Utasinoraptor is a dinosaur you don’t want to see come out first. With its three-turn combo with the moves Distracting Impact, Instant Charge and Critical Impact it can do 7.000 damage! Not a lot of leads like facing this, unless you have a solid Slowing move that isn’t Superiority Strike, because one turn Slowing effects will be negated with Instant Charge! The opponent has to have a counter to Utasino ready on T1, which is quite luck based, as you don’t know what the opponents going to lead! Utasinoraptor is also a very potent Dracoceratops counter. With the Critical Impact, it will do enough damage to take it out in one shot. This is quite a useful thing to have, as Dracoceratops is quite the menace in the Arena! And speaking of Dracoceratops, when Utasino is out and ready to claim a kill, it is very often the victim of a Swap in Rampage. This is of course bad for Utasino, but a great tactical advantage to you as a player, because now you can send in your Dracoceratops counter and take out that vermin! So Utasino will do awesome as a lead, but it is also a very effective closer/revenge killer. Bring it out to get a weakened dinosaur off the field, and then run rampant on the other dinosaurs, especially if you’ve taken out its counters (which we will get to shortly)!

Good matchups

I’ve already talked about it a bit, but Utasinoraptor has a lot of good matchups. For one, it can do incredibly well against most lead dinosaurs. Think of most speedsters, and Utasino will most likely win the 1v1, unless the opponent is a Distracter. It will do well against the most common openers that you’ll face: Erlidominus, Spinotasuchus, opposing Utasinoraptors (gotta have fast fingers though!), and even its hybrid Utarinex gets knocked out in a 1v1! It can also do surprisingly well against tankier dinosaurs like Stegodeus, Trykosaurus and Diorajasaur if you use the correct move order. It can take them out or leave them at a low Health number so that they are prone to being revenge killed. It will also do well against chompers like Thoradolosaur and Tenontorex, although it isn’t 100% clearly cut for Utasino to win. Thor can crit through the Distracting, and Tenontorex can also Distract Utasino, and it can slow it down with Superiority Strike if the Instant Charge is blown already. But most of the times it should be good!

Bad matchups

Utasinoraptors lower Health and 127 Speed does make it prone to being slowed and outsped by its most prominent counters. Faster dinosaurs that can negate the Distraction like Magnapyritor will do amazing against Utasinoraptor, as well as faster Distraction based dinosaurs. Looking at you Erlikospyx and Diloracheirus! Slowers also give it a bad time. Ardentismaxima, Geminititan and other high damage slowing dinosaurs will most likely result in Utasino only being able to get two hits off. And I mentioned Trykosaurus and Diorajasaur in the previous paragraph too, but they aren’t ideal matchups, as proper prediction by the opponent will result in a dead Utasino. Utasino is also one of the more 1v1 dinosaurs, so it is very prone to being set up on. Faster dinosaurs will come in and revenge kill it with relative ease. So beware of this!

Team mates

Utasinoraptors tendency to be a lead and 1v1 dinosaur. Therefore, it doesn’t really have many very useful team mates, as it is designed to 1-2-3 punch the opponent to death. Team mates should be some dinosaur that appreciate a powerful lead dinosaur or chomper being eliminated, and there’s quite a few of them. This is honestly a tricky topic, as there aren’t as many team mates useful for Utasino. You could make a case for tanky dinosaurs or Swap in Invincibility users like Stygidaryx or Alankylosaurus as team mates, as they can soak up those big Rampages from opposing Erlidominus or Diloracheirus. That way, you can save your Utasino for later in the match!

How to counter a Utasinoraptor

Utasinoraptor is a dinosaur that likes to pummel the opponent to death using its high damage moveset. So reducing that high damage is essential to beating it. Fast Distracters like Pyrritator, Magnapyritor, Diloracheirus and Erlikospyx. Slowing it down is also a good thing to do. Ardentismaxima, Ardontosaurus and Geminititan are great picks, because these three longnecks are also Immune to the Distraction and Stuns Utasino carries! And if all else fails, Dracoceratops can come in and finish the job.

Utasinoraptor vs. Utarinex

This has been a debate for a long time in JWA. What is the best option between these two? The answer? We cannot tell you. Honestly it’s what playstyle you prefer. Do you want raw damage? Utasinoraptor is your best option. Do you want an awesome team player with great mobility? Utarinex is your pick. Utasinoraptor has Critical Impact and lower Health but 1 point higher Speed and 15% Armor, while Utarinex has Rampage and Run and a higher Health stat and Crit Chance, but slightly lower Speed and Attack. There is no clear winner in this debate. If you have a swap heavy team, go with Utarinex. If you like raw damage, Utasinoraptor is your pick.
