JWA Alliance Championship Overview - April

Submit Feedback or Error

Introduction

Hello, Explorers! This month is the start of an exciting new feature in Jurassic World Alive: Alliance Championships! This is a new format that further expands on the weekend tournaments that have already been in the game. Alliances must work together to gain alliance points and get the chance to earn some awesome prizes, including Unique DNA! This first Championship will be active from April 6th - May 4th. We'll breakdown how to earn those points, all of the upcoming tournaments for the month, what the prizes are, and see if that top reward is really obtainable.

Accessing the Tournament Championship Screen in Game

There has been some confusion this week as technically the championship has already started, but since points are only gained through tournaments, there isn't much you can actually do with it right now. You can access the Tournament Championship Screen by clicking on the Tournaments Button on the Battle Screen. This will take you to a list of all of the tournaments scheduled for this month:

The alliance Championship Header at the top of the screen shows your current points and progress. Since we haven't had a tournament yet, everyone's should currently be at 0. When you click that header, you will see a screen with even more detailed information about your current progress, how close you are to the next tier, as well as all of your alliance members and how many points they have accumulated.

You can also promote or demote members into Veteran/Co-Leader/Leader from this screen. The Leaderboard tab at the top will list all of the participating alliances and their current points. There is not an additional prize for being the top alliance, but there is always bragging rights.

How to accumulate Points

So the big question is how do you earn points? Points are earned solely through participation in the weekly tournaments. You can access and join those tournaments through the same Tournament Button located on your Battle Screen in-game. To earn alliance points you must play at least one tournament battle. You will earn points 3 different ways in the tournament.

  • Your starting medal count .1 medal = 1 alliance point. That means if you are in Nublar Shores, you will earn 880 alliance points by joining and playing in 1 battle. Remember that starting medals are determined based on your current PvP arena, not your high score for the season.

  • Increasing your High Score. Just like the starting medals, 1 medal gained = 1 alliance point. So if you win a match and improve your high score by 20 medals, you will earn 20 alliance points.

  • Participation Bonus. They haven't given much information on this, but there will also be a participation bonus based on the number of takedowns you perform in a tournament. Each tournament will have a different amount of required takedowns and points will not be awarded until you have completed all of them. For example: If the required takedowns is 100 creatures, that would be an average of 50 games you must play to complete that requirement. Then you will earn participation points for completing that task. So even if you are losing, you are still helping out your alliance! You can earn a Participation Bonus once for each tournament.

In addition, some tournaments will have a multiplier on it and any points you gain will be multiplied by that amount. This month we have a 2x Tournament so all of your points will be multiplied by 2 (including starting medals, increasing high score, and participation bonus). Your points are automatically added to the overall pool as soon as you earn them. You can see your points in the Champion Screen as well as the points earned by everyone else in the alliance. If you leave one alliance and join another, your points will not go with you.

They have already announced the tournaments for the entire month so we know what to expect and can start planning for them. All of the tournaments will be free to enter. Points Requirements and Rewards

At the end of the month, all alliance members will earn prizes based on what reward tier the alliance was able to reach together. Just like Alliance Missions, the rewards will be scaled based on player level. Here is the requirements for each rank.

April 2020 Championship Rewards

As you can see the highest ranks require a LOT of points so coordination and participation by all members will be key. The Rewards will be guaranteed Nasutoceratops, Carbonemys, Euclodoceroas, and Testacornibus DNA. You can see how much DNA you can expect by your player level at each rank by clicking on the incubator in the Alliance Points screen. To give you an idea, this is what a lvl 20 player can expect form a Step 10 Incubator:

Is Rank 10 Obtainable?

So we know how to accumulate points and we know how many points you need to reach each rank, so the big question is can you actually achieve Rank 10? For that, we consulted with our resident Robot and this is what he had to say:

Do you want the bad news or the worse news first? Honestly, I'm not sure which is more depressing, so let's just start looking at some numbers.

In the last tournament, the top 50 players finished with a total of 89,191 medals. I spoke with the 1st place finisher and the 50th place finisher and asked them to rate how hard they worked.  They both said 9 out of 10, so I think it's safe to say this is representative of any given tournament. Now, let's imagine all 50 players were in a single alliance and they replicated that performance in every tournament for this championship. There are 4 tournaments and one has a 2x multiplier.  89,191x5=445,955‬. Now counting the participation bonus (which we know nothing about at this time) that's only tier 5. Let me repeat that: ONLY TIER 5!

Let's try an even farther from reality example.  Let's say that somehow, all 50 members of an alliance we able to match the first place score from the last tournament: 2120. 2150x50x5=530000. THAT'S ONLY TIER 6! This impossible scenario is still less than half of what it would take to get to tier 10!

Based on the theoretical performance of these two godly alliances, I don't think anyone will make it past tier 5 unless the participation bonus is worth an entire tournament's worth of alliance points. Don't get me wrong, the rewards for the championship are awesome and should be a big challenge to get. But the top prize should at least be attainable by the top alliances. Having impossible goals is just demoralizing and results in even worse performance. Ludia really needs to adjust these requirements, even if it means adjusting the payouts as well.

Parting Words

We are still very excited about the Alliance Championships and can't wait to duke it out for bragging rights on the Alliance Leaderboard! We do hope the higher ranks are actually obtainable. The only "unknown" factor in the equation right now is the participation bonus points so we are really hoping it gives enough points for a reasonably high rank for most active alliances. The first tournament starts this Friday and we can't wait to see how it goes! Make sure to join our Discord for more information and maybe even send a GG to people after a game!
