JWA September Skilled Tournament: Epic Non-Hybrid Sim Results

Submit Feedback or Error

Introduction

Explorers! We are well into the Geminititan Alliance Championship and this weekend features one of my personal favorite tournaments. All Epic non-hybrid. It is a skilled tournament so all creatures will be set to lvl 26 with no boosts. That means if you have the creature unlocked, you will be able to use it! The reward is boosts, so expect some tough competition as people fight for this very valuable in game resource!

Tournament Rules

Before we go start with the Sim Results and Team Building Tips, here are the rules and rewards of the Tournament once again.

Sim Results

As this is a Skilled Tournament, we have decided to use our Battle Simulator to give you a good insight on how each creature performs. But before we will show you the results, our usual disclaimer.

Our Battle Simulator is a tool that was developed by the creator of the Jurassic World Alive Field Guide and it runs matchups for every combination we want it to. It runs 1v1 matchups for all creatures against all creatures, selecting the best move possible for each turn. It then calculates a win/loss/tie percentage and that is then compiled into a data sheet.

Our Sim Results, therefore, are excellent in 1v1 matchups like the very start of the match. However, you should always keep in mind that the battles in JWA are a 4v4, and that it is very rarely a true 1v1. So while these numbers are very useful for seeing who wins the most, you should always keep in mind your own playstyle and possibly other uses that won't be seen as much in our Battle Sim, like Swap in Abilities or On Escape Abilities.

Since this is such a large pool of creatures we went even further with these sim results. We ran ALL of the creatures against each other to get initial results. Then, we took the top 20 creatures and ran those through a separate sim directly against each other. So the image below is the 2nd iteration of the sims with the top 20 creatures against each other.

But with that disclaimer out of the way, here are the results! To quickly explain the numbers: Green numbers are win percentages, red numbers are loss percentages and blue numbers are Swap out Percentages. If there is any situation where the added number isn't 100% there are probably some rounding issues involved.

The rest of the creatures available this tournament (in no particular order) include:

  • Ankylosaurus
  • Spinosaurus Gen 2
  • Alanqa
  • Maiasaura
  • Eucladoceros
  • Erlikosaurus
  • Monolophosaurus
  • Haast Eagle
  • Koolasuchus
  • Woolly Mammoth
  • Kentrosaurus
  • Pteranodon
  • Ouranosaurus
  • Darwinopterus

The Top Creatures

As you can see from the image, there is pretty much one clear Top Dog in this tournament and it's going to be tough to beat. This creature should pretty much be on every team so be prepared for that.

Diplodocus reigns surpreme in the head to head matchups as you can tell. High HP, Swap in Slow, and a Shield move that also breaks shields will be helpful in almost any situation. Add in a decelerating Rampage move that can also slow and a deceleration resistance, this creature can pretty much take anything out in 2 hits.  It's especially good for the swap in slow. Take a hit, slow the creature again, and even if Diplod dies, you often have the opportunity to set another one of your creatures up.

To take down this behemoth you are going to need to think past the Head to Head matchups. Swap in creatures and bleeders can take a big chunk of HP out allowing something else to come in and take it out. Remember, it isn't fast, so you just need to get it in range of one of your faster creatures. Take advantage of swap in creatures like Woolly Rhino (strike and stun) and Darwinopterus (bleed). If you have its HP down enough, you can even bring in something like Gryposuchus so it can't run away!

The other creature we expect to see a ton of is Woolly Rhino. Rhino got a pretty big buff in 2.0. It has 4500 HP, a whopping 1500 swap in stunning strike, resilient impact, shielded strike, and and instant invincibility. You will most likely see this come out to revenge kill on of your creatures, but even after it comes in, you are going to want to bring out a chomper or something that can take it out in 2 hits so it can't get away to swap back in again. Shield-breaking Counter-attackers such as Concavenator can help chip away at the HP. Gryposuchus can also come in and Rhino won't be able to swap back out.

Building the rest of the team

What we love most about this tournament is the rest of the team will depend on you and your playstyle! Here are some other creatures you can use and how they may fit into your team.

Edaphosaurus is a new creature that has some great potential! It has better than average HP, a ton of resistances, and can produce some pretty big hits. Similiar to Edaph is Secodontosaurus. It has the same resistances and a higher 2 turn damage output, but it is 1 speed slower and has slightly lower HP. Both of these creatures are great options that can help set up another creature or dish out a big hit if they need to.

Carbonemys has high hp, armor and Superior Vulnerability that can help set up another creature. If you can survive long enough to get Devastation going then you can often rotate that well. Beware of the turtle vs. turtle matchups though as those will take a while to end!

Gryposuchus is another great creature to save for late game. The No Escape on it means you can't swap out of it unless your creature is resitant to swap prevention. You can also bring Grypo in and pin the other creature with immobilize before dying so they can't swap even after you are gone. Add in ferocious strike and a shattering strike, this is one that is definitely worth a team spot.

Sinoceratops will play a similar roles in this tournament as Woolly Rhino. Sino has a swap in stun and armor-piercing move so even if the stun doesn't land it will do some damage. You can also Dig In and get back out to swap it in again.

Stygimoloch is a bit of a sleeper but can also do well in this format. It has decent speed, shield, and an instant charge move that allows it to get off damage before going down. It also has a run move that pairs well with swap in creatures (like Rhino)

Titanoboa is best used in late game because of its On Escape move. When an opponent tries to run, Boa will deal 2600 rampage plus a precise move that can hit through dodge. You can even swap Boa in on a creature you are expecting to run and the OE move will activate for the sneaky final takedown.

Alanqa is another fantastic swap in creature. It's a great counter to things that can't break shields. I can also swap in and tank hits from the speedsters.

Counter attacking creatures such as Concavenator and Rajasaurus can also do very well (especially with a swappy team). Swap them in for chip damage to set up something else.

Obviously there are more creatures to choose from then what is highlighted above. As always, find what works best for you and your playstyle. You might end up changing your team as you move up the ranks so don't be afraid to swap things around based on what you face the most and what you have trouble with. Most importantly though, try and have fun!

Parting Words

We are pretty excited about this tournament and it is personally one of my favorite formats. I love playing with the pure non-hybrid creatures and the epics are some of my favorite.
