Introduction

Hey guys! We’ve made it! Week 5 of this grind. The Monolorhino season is almost over and with no clue what is coming next month we don’t know if we will be able to relax or start the grind back up. This last week is all hybrids (unique, legendary, epics & rares)! This is always a fun tournament for sure.

Let’s get to it but first off, I want to thank MattE as always for providing us with the sims! His field guide app is amazing and its highly recommended.

Sim Results

As this is a Skilled Tournament, we have decided to use our Battle Simulator to give you a good insight on how each creature performs. Our Battle Simulator is a tool that was developed by the creator of the Jurassic World Alive Field Guide and it runs matchups for every combination we want it to. It runs 1v1 matchups for all creatures against all creatures, selecting the best move possible for each turn. It then calculates a win/loss/tie percentage and that is then compiled into a data sheet.

Our Sim Results, therefore, are excellent in 1v1 matchups like the very start of the match. However, you should always keep in mind that the battles in JWA are a 4v4, and that it is very rarely a true 1v1. So while these numbers are very useful for seeing who wins the most, you should always keep in mind your own playstyle and possibly other uses that won't be seen as much in our Battle Sim, like Swap in Abilities or On Escape Abilities.

Because we want to give you the most accurate results, we took the top 50 in our original findings and put those against each other. That will give us a better understanding on how those do against each other. So in the image you are about to see you will see the results of the top 20 being pitted against each other, not these creatures versus all creatures.

But with that disclaimer out of the way, here are the results! To quickly explain the numbers: Green numbers are win percentages, red numbers are loss percentages and blue numbers are Swap out Percentages. If there is any situation where the added number isn't 100% there are probably some rounding issues involved

Team Building Tips

As always, I don’t recommend just grabbing the 1st 8 creatures and running to the tournament lobby. You are going to want to have some team synergy. These are creatures a lot of people are used to using every day. Now obviously without boosts they won’t be quite what you’re used to but its nice to have that familiarity with them.

Tenontorex – Tenny has everything you could want in a creature. Stun resistance, swap prevention resistance, resilient strike, a monster attack stat & defense shattering rampage. Its #1 on this list for a reason.

Magnapyritor – In the arena Mags is wild. There are so many builds and none seem to work for me, but in this format, Mags is great. Great resistances, great move set & great stats. Its going to be on every team.

Geminititan – Honestly, this is the only longneck to use this tournament. It doesn’t have a lot of counters. Its just a great overall creature.

Diorajasaur – Another creature I think you’ll see on every team. Dioraja’s counter is killer.

Quetzorion – Honestly, quetz is higher than I’d expect. Long invincibility is almost a must with this creature since its turn 1 damage output isn’t great. But it can give it a fighting chance vs resilient creatures.

Entelolania – The pig turtle went from being a meme to being really good. I know you’ll see this on a lot of teams because its newer and people haven’t really used, but also because it just got a new kit with devastation and ferocity. Its worth a look for sure.

Smilonemys – I have a lot of bias here. I’ve used Nemys since the day I unlocked it which was pretty early on. I hate Smilonemys so much. But I also love this battle cat. Swap in stun might as well be “swap in and eat an attack” because it seems like it never lands. None the less this cool cat has 2 rampages & a ton of armor. You can probably find a use for it.

Erlikospyx – Great revenge move but I honestly don’t know where Espyx fits in this format. The lack of any true fierce can give it trouble, but instant distraction is a nice way to stall the fierce/resilient creatures like Tryk.

Trykosaurus – One of those previous mentioned fierce/resilients. Everyone is pretty familiar with this guy. Fierce moves with resilient impact and invincibility. Good creature but its speed at 108 leaves it slightly slower than a lot on this list above it which is why its down a little.

Mammolania- Lania isn’t the monster it used to be but it is an incredibly resilient creature. It is hard to kill with its armor & 2 shielding moves. PFS + Rampage means its putting out a ton of damage too. Its worth a look for sure if you’re looking for armor.

Sarcorixis- I use Rixis in the arena and this format is not friendly to it. Seriously. Rixis has to stun to be successful and there isn’t much that it can stun in this.

Monolometrodon- NERF MONOLOMETRODON. Oh wait sorry, this isn’t the forums. Honestly. I don’t care for this creature and won’t be using it. It has the best rend resistance in this format, but you won’t see a lot of rending. Its moveset typically means that after turn 2 it has to use a strike which isn’t ideal. Its speed isn’t great for what it is either. Honestly, this creature is easy build but does not need a nerf. At all.

Ardentismaxima- Maxima is ok. Its vanilla. Its not going to wow anything or win anyone anything. It was great until it was nerfed. Now its just meh. I wouldn’t use Maxima, but if you don’t have any other options it can be usable.

Antarcovenator – One of the newer creatures in this format. **ITS COUNTER ATTACK ISN’T WORKING AS DESCRIBED** surprise surprise. It does .5 damage then nullifies. So against shields it isn’t doing as much. That being said this is a very interesting creature. Swap in distraction & a lot of great resistances. Definite rampage is also a big plus. Cooldown on it sucks a little but there is some survivability here. EDIT: Its counter attack does work as described since it says "attacks then remove all positive effects. I'm unsure why ludia would make nullifying strike, nullifying impact, & nullifying rampage work differently than nullifying counter. But sure why not.

Utarinex – Rinex 3600 health 1600 attack and 128 has some great stats. It actually having a cunning attack also is nice because it can remove any ferocity boosts from anything. Rampage & run is nice but I hate being forced to run on my only rampage attack.

Mammotherium – If you don’t have mammolania and want to run a resilient creature, Therium is a good option. High attack stat but no rampage but persistent ferocious strike helps that out.

Tryostronix- Get set up and you can take care of business. Don’t forget that refresh speeds you up. A solid counter for the tanks you may see.

Erlidominus – I don’t know what I would recommend Erlidom for. I’m sure there is a reason here, but I don’t think it will be on my squad. There are way too many resilient creatures. Erlidom is great vs things slower than it without resilient moves and there aren’t a whole lot of those here.

Alloraptor – I’d say Alloraptor is a must. It wins head to head 85% vs Tenontorex & Gemini. That is huge. With decent speed also it can win one of those h2h’s and still have priority when the next creature comes out. The health is low and watch out for alloraptor speed ties because it 1 shots itself. That will be probably the biggest frustration with this guy.

Monolorhino- *phew* Right? I know some of y’all can’t survive without your swap in attackers. So here is one. With great armor (where does it come from???) and great resistances, this guy is going to be a pain. You’ll see it on every team. Just swapping in throwing up shields, doing an attack & then bailing. It’s going to be frustrating.

Some nifty tid-bits

Those top 3 creatures, those you will see a lot. If only there was something to help figure out how to counter them 100%. Oh wait. What is this?

tenny

gemini

Mags

Oh look, I found something for Erlidom to do!!  When something says 100%, that means it wins every head to head. As long as you don’t screw it up. So don’t screw it up! You’ll see a lot of creatures we didn’t really discuss, so these are ones who really just shine in select situations, but those situations could arise considering how many people will run those 3.

You are also going to see a lot of Monolorhino. These will be really hard to kill in 2 turns which you would want to do so they can't run again. Here are some of the top counters.

Parting Words

I hope this helps you out. For the most part, these are going to be familiar creatures so just do what you do in the arena. If you have any questions, want to ask me how a specific creature does in the tournament, or tell me how much you hated this article my DMs are open on the GamePress discord.
