JWA Weekly Event February 22-February 28: Armor

Introduction

Explorers! After a couple of fun weeks with holiday themes, we are back to the basics with an Armor event. Each set provides some great options and tough choices, so let's go over what our Discord community is thinking and what we'll recommend to dart as well as everything else you need to know!

Weekly Calendar Explained

Before we dive in to the week, we'll break down how the weekly event calendar works. First, each day is considered started at 10am Eastern on that day. It is possible that wherever you live, it might actually be the previous or next day, so we wanted to help clarify how they determine what day it is. At this time, event creatures & strike towers will be updated as applicable. This information is also noted on the calendar.

Ever wonder why some weeks we’re given 45 attempts on commons and others only 18 or 27? The reason for this is that the volume of attempts is a simple math calculation based on the rarity and number of options. Take the rarity base number and multiply by the number of options and voila, you have your total allowed attempts! Having more variety in the options yields that many more attempts. The flip side is it may be more difficult to find the creature(s) you favor. Below details the number of attempts assigned to each rarity which is used to determine how many attempts you receive (though occasionally, they stray from this math). This is the total you are allotted across all options, so it is important to select your choices wisely.

  • Common = 9 per
  • Rate = 6 per
  • Epic = 3 per
  • Legendary/Unique = 1 total

Each rarity has a different length of time the spawn lasts followed by a different length of time until respawn after despawn. Commons will last 1 hour with about 5 minutes between, Rares last 3 hours with about 15 minutes in between, and Epics last 6 hours with upward of 30 minutes in between.

All strikes are represented on the calendar with the level of difficulty along with how long they last (1 day or 2 days). The calendar does not show trials, but those do not tend to vary week by week.

Featured Creatures: Commons

Monday - Tuesday: 36 Attempts

  • Ankylosaurus Gen 2 (Tuesday) (Alankylosaurus, Ankylocodon>Ankylodicurus)
  • Brontotherium (Battle Exclusive) (Brontolasumus)
  • Euoplocephalus (Local 2 Anytime) (Amargocephalus>Tragoditis)
  • Scolosaurus (Local 4 Day/Dawn/Dusk) (Skoolasaurus>Skoonasaurus)

New for 2021, we are reaching out to our Discord community to find out what they're planning to dart. We can't presume to understand what it's like to be at any given level of the game and hope this added input will be beneficial. If you aren't joined to our Discord, there is a link a few sections below, come on in!

Rather than ramble about what hybrid(s) these featured creatures are responsible for, we will now include that information alongside the spawn mechanics of each.

These may be some of the toughest Common choices we've faced in awhile. The "rule of exclusivity" would tell you Bronto is your choice, and that's where our Discord community is leaning by a pretty wide margin. Bronto is a fine choice with a nice hybrid in Brontolasmus which could one day receive the super hybrid treatment. You'd be in a waiting game on this one, and there's never anything wrong with that.

Then we have Ankyl2. Faced with its own day-locked exclusivity, this one feeds multiple hybrids including the fairly newly introduced Ankylodicurus. On the other hand, you've got Alankylosaurus, a Legendary that's been screaming for a super hybrid for ages. We find Ankyl2 to be a very solid choice of this group.

What about Scolo? Skoolasaurus appears in several raid strategies, and you'll want to raise it to level 20 for that. Skoona is a fairly new super hybrid in the game. Local 4 only comes around every 4 months, so it doesn't make this the most easily accessible. Another fine choice if your personal goals can be achieved.

And lastly, we've got the age old Euop. We wouldn't shun anyone for making this their choice, but this would be lowest on our list of recommendations. Its hybrid, Amargocephalus, is dartable in the wild everywhere, all the time. Tragoditis does appear in a handful of raid strategies but isn't the arena foe of yore.

Featured Creatures: Rares

Wednesday - Friday: 18 Attempts

  • Doedicurus (Park) (Ankylodicurus)
  • Moschops (Local 3 Dawn/Dusk/Night) (Entelechops)
  • Nodosaurus (Local 2 Dawn/Dusk/Night) (Nodopatosaurus>Gigaspikasaur/Nodopatotitan/Stegodeus)

Ahhh it feels good to once again have three days to dart our Rares. Another group of difficult choices, but it's hard to go wrong when the choice is tough. The community wants that Doedi, as it is a Park spawn and maybe the toughest to come by (unless you are like me and live off a park, the blessing and the curse of it). Anklydoedi is also one of our newest super hybrids. We haven't seen this one in action, but its kit tells us it can be a force (at least in qualifying tournaments).

Then we have Moschops, coming in just behind Doedi in our community poll. I can tell you from experience, Entelochops is a monster when overleveled for Advantage tournaments. There is also still opportunity for a future super hybrid. This will be my personal choice for those very two reasons.

Finally, we'll have a look at Nodo. Then we walk right past because this doesn't feel worth the time. The Superhybrids could be cool one day, but today they are not. Unless your main goal/mission is to fill your dex and you are missing any of these, you are better off with the other two options.

Featured Creatures: Epics

Saturday - Sunday: 9 Attempts

  • Ankylosaurus (Local 1 Anytime (Ankytrosaurus>Trykosurus, Rajakylosaurus>Diorajasaur)
  • Antarctopelta (Event Exclusive) (Antarctovenator)
  • Gryposuchus (Global Anytime) (Grylenken, Grypolyth)

Just when you think it's so easy because one is Event Exclusive, it really isn't. All three of these are very excellent options, and you really can not go wrong in your choice. Ankyl is responsible for two of the best Unique super hybrids out there. Tryk is the perennial top dog, and while Dio may have lost some (but not nearly all) arena appeal, it is very often used for raids. You're going to need buckets of Ankyl to complete these two, and waiting for Local 1 to come back around may not feed the impatience in you. Ankyl is a great choice if either or both of these Supers are in your plans. According to our community, this one is just what the Doctor ordered, as it currently leads the voting way.

Next there's the Exclusive Antarctopelta, just a few community votes behind Ankyl. More often than not, we will recommend the Exclusive. We're not going to not recommend it, but for now Antarctovenator doesn't hold a candle to Tryk or Dio. That could change some day, so it's certainly no foul if this one's your choice. I'll tell you right now, it will be mine.

Grypo also makes a great choice, as Grypolyth is among the top tier in arena. There's also Grylenken, another which one day could be granted a super hybrid. This one's available everywhere, all the time, plus we have Grypolyth as a weekly raid boss. This doesn't feel the best choice of the three, but you can still go with it and have no regrets.
