JWA Weekly Event February 8-February 14: Lunar New Year

Explorers! It is time once again to celebrate the Lunar New Year! It will be another fun week to chase coins and collect DNA including some exclusive & legendary. Each set provides some great options, so let's go over what our Discord community is thinking and what we'll recommend to dart as well as everything else you need to know!

Weekly Calendar Explained

Before we dive in to the week, we'll break down how the weekly event calendar works. First, each day is considered started at 10am Eastern on that day. It is possible that wherever you live, it might actually be the previous or next day, so we wanted to help clarify how they determine what day it is. At this time, event creatures & strike towers will be updated as applicable. This information is also noted on the calendar.

Ever wonder why some weeks we’re given 45 attempts on commons and others only 18 or 27? The reason for this is that the volume of attempts is a simple math calculation based on the rarity and number of options. Take the rarity base number and multiply by the number of options and voila, you have your total allowed attempts! Having more variety in the options yields that many more attempts. The flip side is it may be more difficult to find the creature(s) you favor. Below details the number of attempts assigned to each rarity which is used to determine how many attempts you receive (though occasionally, they stray from this math). This is the total you are allotted across all options, so it is important to select your choices wisely.

  • Common = 9 per
  • Rate = 6 per
  • Epic = 3 per
  • Legendary/Unique = 1 total

Each rarity has a different length of time the spawn lasts followed by a different length of time until respawn after despawn. Commons will last 1 hour with about 5 minutes between, Rares last 3 hours with about 15 minutes in between, and Epics last 6 hours with upward of 30 minutes in between.

All strikes are represented on the calendar with the level of difficulty along with how long they last (1 day or 2 days). The calendar does not show trials, but those do not tend to vary week by week.

Featured Creatures: Commons

Monday - Tuesday: 27 Attempts

  • Deinocheirus (Global Anytime) (Diloracheirus)
  • Gallimimus (Local 1 Anytime) (Aquilamimus, Monomimus > Pterovexus)
  • Monolophosaurus Gen 2 (Local 4 Anytime) (Monolometrodon > Monolorhino)

New for 2021, we are reaching out to our Discord community to find out what they're planning to dart. We can't presume to understand what it's like to be at any given level of the game and hope this added input will be beneficial. If you aren't joined to our Discord, there is a link a few sections below, come on in!

Rather than ramble about what hybrid(s) these featured creatures are responsible for, we will now include that information alongside the spawn mechanics of each.

For 2021, they have replaced Tarbo with Mono2, and we couldn't be more pleased. The people would agree as the votes heavily favor Mono2! We absolutely concur, as both Monolometrodon AND Monolorhino are arena forces. We would lean toward Galli second, as it was once exclusive, feeds multiple hybrids, and isn't global like Deino. Dilora seems to have lost a little luster as a raid dino and likely fallen off for many as a project.

Featured Creatures: Rares

Wednesday - Thursday: 24 Attempts

  • Erlikosaurus Gen 2 (Global Anytime) (Erlikogamma, Erlikospyx)
  • Oviraptor (Short Range Anytime) (Ovilophosaurus)
  • Tuojiangosaurus (Global Anytime) (Diorajasaur, Tuoramoloch)
  • Wuerhosaurus (Event Exclusive) (Carnotarkus)

First, it is important to note that we only get TWO DAYS for Rares this week due to our Legendary attempt on Sunday. Make sure you complete your attempts before Friday's reset, so you don't miss out!

Out with Arambo & Diloph as included in 2020, in with Erlik2 and Oviraptor. The choice here isn't as simple as it may seem. Sure, Wuerho is event exclusive, but its hybrid currently isn't heavily used in arena. We have Ovi which is the newest of the bunch and a little challenging to acquire since it is a proximity spawn which also carries a daily darting limit. If you aren't able to get out, this is probably your best bet. Erlik2 is can be found everywhere, all the time, and would be the last we recommend you spend your attempts on. Lastly, we have Tuoj which is key for two oft used Raid dinos. Dio is also very prevalent in arena. Even though Tuoj is also global, anytime, you will need a plethora if you plan to build Dio and/or Tuora and might be best suited using your attempts there.

The community is favoring Tuoj with the least preferring Wuerho. Erlik & Ovi are running about neck and neck the middle.

Featured Creatures: Epics

Friday - Saturday: 9 Attempts

  • Erlikosaurus (Global Day/Dawn/Dusk) (Erlidominus)
  • Sinoceratops (Local 1 Anytime) (Allosinosaurus > Thoradolosaur, Utasinoraptor > Utarinex)
  • Woolly Mammoth (Local 2 Anytime) (Entelomoth > Etelolania, Mammotherium > Mammolania)

Nothing super stands out this week, so you may be best suited to evaluate your personal goals when choosing what to dart. The community is favoring Mammoth, maybe because it seems to be featured less than the others (especially Sino). We would probably recommend Erlik the least, as it's global and Erlidom doesn't seem to dominate the arena like it once did. In this current meta, you are more likely to run in to Thor and Lania. A properly boosted Thor can also be very useful in many raid strategies.

Featured Creatures: Legendaries

Sunday: 3 Attempts

  • Alloraptor (Event Exclusive) (No Current Hybrid)
  • Allosinosaurus (Event Exclusive) (Thoradolosaur)
  • Indominus Rex (Event Exclusive) (Indoraptor))

In 2020, we were given five choices for this Valentines offering. This year, we have three to choose from, and the community wants that Alloraptor. We are on board with this choice, as one of its ingredients is Event Exclusive (Allosaurus Gen 2). It also hasn't been given a hybrid but could receive one some day. The ingredients to create the others are found in the wild which should make them easier to build. However, you really can not go totally wrong in whatever choice you make. So in the spirit of Valentine's Day, just go with your heart.

Strike Events, Trials, Scents, Treasure Chase, and Hybrid Pursuit!

Strike Events & Trials

Strike Events and Trials for Mon-Sat are also Lunar New Year themed and will reward the same DNA you will find at the event drops. Update: the strikes & trials are actually rewarding Rhino and not Mammoth, but all others are the same. The themed strike on Friday does not show a particular creature, so it should also be Lunar New Year themedOver the Weekend, we'll also get an Epic Trial. On Sunday, we have an Epic Valentines Strike (all strikes are Valentines themed) and will reward the following for successful completion:

  • Allosaurus
  • Velociraptor
  • Echo
  • Delta
  • Tyrannosaurus Rex Gen 2
  • Utahraptor
  • Allosaurus Gen 2
  • Blue
  • Sinoceratops

Finally, we've got the regularly scheduled Boost Strikes on Tuesday (Attack), Thursday (HP), and Saturday (Speed).

The Themed Scent of this week will be Lunar New Year Scent and will draw the same creatures featured (Common, Rare, Epic only).

Treasure Chase

To celebrate Lunar New Year, there will be daily treasure chases to earn up to 8,888 coins per day. These are proximity chests where you receive 222 from a distance and 888 in range. We will also have the normal chase on Sunday this week where we will be able to chase the treasures through the day! With this set up, the chests are refreshed throughout the day and offer up to 25,000 free coins. We just need to cross our fingers that they aren't so sparse as they were this past weekend.

Hybrid Pursuit

This week concludes the Entelolania pursuit, so keep your eyes out for the super cute little Rare Meiolania

Tournament & Daily Dino Info

Our daily dino for the month of February is Carbonemys, so be sure to complete your missions daily to collect your DNA!

The second weekend of the Quetzorion ACs will be Common/Rare (No Hybrids) Advantage tournament for Deinonychus & Tupandactylus DNA.
