JWA Weekly Event July 5 - July 11: Counter Attack & Debuff/Lockdown

Submit Feedback or Error

Introduction

Explorers! This week brings us Counter Attack & Debuff/Lockdown. It's been awhile since Counter Attackers have been featured at our event drops. Let's go over what our Discord community is thinking, what we'll recommend to dart, and everything else you need to know.

Weekly Calendar Explained

Before we dive in to the week, we'll break down how the weekly event calendar works. First, each day is considered started at 10am Eastern on that day. It is possible that wherever you live, it might actually be the previous or next day, so we wanted to help clarify how they determine what day it is. At this time, event creatures & strike towers will be updated as applicable. This information is also noted on the calendar.

Ever wonder why some weeks we’re given 45 attempts on commons and others only 18 or 27? The reason for this is that the volume of attempts is a simple math calculation based on the rarity and number of options. Take the rarity base number and multiply by the number of options and voila, you have your total allowed attempts! Having more variety in the options yields that many more attempts. The flip side is it may be more difficult to find the creature(s) you favor. Below details the number of attempts assigned to each rarity which is used to determine how many attempts you receive (though occasionally, they stray from this math). This is the total you are allotted across all options, so it is important to select your choices wisely.

  • Common = 9 per
  • Rare = 6 per
  • Epic = 3 per
  • Legendary/Unique = 1 total

They recently started putting the number of attempts on the calendar again and sometimes stray from the above. Refer to the calendar for the confirmed counts. Each rarity has a different length of time the spawn lasts followed by a different length of time until respawn after despawn. Commons and Rares will last 1 hour with about 5 minutes between. Epics last 2 hours with about 5 minutes in between.

All strikes and trials are represented on the calendar with the level of difficulty along with how long they last (1 day or 2 days). The trials are shown along the very bottom in gray boxes.

Featured Creatures: Commons

Monday - Tuesday: 27 Attempts

  • Eremotherium (Local 3 Day/Dawn/Dusk) (Eremocerus)
  • Lythronax (Local 3 Anytime) (Purrolyth, Grypolyth)
  • Miragaia (Local 1 Day/Dawn/Dusk) (Megalogaia, Dsungaia)

At this juncture, if you are a regular reader of this column, you won't be surprised to know we feel your best bet may just be to dart whatever crosses your path. This is what the vast majority of our Discord community responded they plan to do in our weekly poll. Putting that option aside, Eremo is coming in as the top choice. None of these options truly stands out over the others despite what Eviedactorisbored might feel about Lythro. If we were to rank them, it would go Lythro, Eremo, Miragaia, but we don't feel strongly enough to give you any reasons to choose any over any other.

Featured Creatures: Rares

Wednesday - Friday: 18 Attempts

  • Dsungaripterus (Event Exclusive) (Dsungaia)
  • Megalosaurus (Local 1 Day/Dawn/Dusk) (Megalosuchus)
  • Tuojiangosaurus (Global Anytime) (Diorajasaur, Tuoramoloch)

Using our typical "scale of exclusivity", our order of recommendation would come to be Dsung, Megalo, Tuoj. However, we can be fairly certain most will want to get after Tuoj in order to work toward both Dio and Tuora. Both Uniques show up in a variety of raid strategies (whereas the great majority of Unique & Apex raids call for a Tuora), and Dio still has some viability in Arena as well. You are much better suited to be darting this global, anytime creature than to be spending your FIPs on it. I can also tell you from personal experience, Tuoj can be a pretty nice teammate in qualifying tournaments when over leveled and boosted.

... and I can tell you the same about Megalo. I do not personally have mine higher than hybrid level, but I have faced some pretty gnarly ones in past tournaments. It's been about forever since its hybrid felt useful, so we find it difficult to give this one our recommendation. We would rather Dsung over Megalo solely do to exclusivity. Maybe go for Miragaia the first two days and Dsung these three days to put toward Dsungaia. It can't hurt to be prepared in the event it gets a Super.

Finally, of course when indifferent or in doubt, just dart whatever crosses your path.

Featured Creatures: Epics

Saturday - Sunday: 9 Attempts

  • Pteranodon (Local 3 Anytime) (Pteraquetzal>Quetzorion)
  • Rajasaurus (Local 2 Anytime) (Rajakylosaurus>Diorajasaur)
  • Sonorasaurus (Event Exclusive) (Skoonasaurus)

Allow us to scream from our rooftops SONOOOORRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! This will undoubtedly be your top choice if you do not already have Skoona maxed. It's Event Exclusive, and Skoona has become an Arena staple. It is also popping up in raid strategies as a decent sub for Maxima. It is quite challenging building for 3 separate aspects of the game (Arena, Tournament, Raid), so when there is any opportunity to cover multiple, it's ideal to go for it.

We realize it won't be easy for many to look past Raja because of Dio. We totally understand but will absolutely keep our main recommendation to be the event exclusive option. There is also the benefit of a creature that can be used for both raids and arena, but we feel much more strongly about Skoona's current viability. We don't think Pteran should even be on your radar unless Quetz is your dreamiest of dreams.

Free Cash Link

GamePress is excited to be able to provide weekly cash links worth $50 cash in game! The code can only be claimed once a week and you must click on it using the device you play JWA with. It will be active from Monday, 12 PM EST - Sunday, 12 PM EST every week. This is a promotional code provided courtesy of Ludia, Inc and is exclusive to GamePress. We will post this link in an article we publish each week. We will post all articles on our Twitter so follow us at NewsJWA on Twitter so you don't miss out!

If you enjoy our content, please help let others know this is the source of the cash links people just post for the taking all over social media. The same goes for YouTubers PokeFodder, Gaming Beaver, and Gaming Ells. All links have a purpose behind them, and that is to promote some kind of media and drive traffic. Most people simply do not know there is actually a purpose behind these links, and we'd like to try to educate as many as we can. Take a moment to politely explain this in these posts. It isn't free money some random stranger on the internet whipped up. Every time these links are shared, it is taking opportunity away from an intended purpose. Please think about that or maybe find some time to visit Gaming Beaver, PokeFodder, Gaming Ells, GamePress JWA, and the Ludia social medias.

*We can not control when Ludia officially deploys these links, but these are the times they are planned to be active.

Parting Words

After months without being an event feature, we are excited for a week of darting Counter Attackers. We also love the additional themes of Debuff & Lockdown for the strikes & trials. New for 2021, we are going to reach out for more community input on these weekly event roundups. My birthday is Sunday, so join our Discord Server and share some birthday greetings! We look forward to your input and hope to see you on there!
