Explorers! We are excited to bring you the community tier list results! This is the second time we have done a list like this and it is personally one of my favorite things we do. I love getting feedback from the community and let's be honest, we know we can't be right about everything. When we create the tier list we do our best to reflect the current meta and what we see in the arena. Boosts have made that difficult but we stuck to the heart of what a tier list is and did NOT take boosts into consideration. As a reminder, this is what the official 1.8 Gamepress Tier List looks like:
Community Tier List
After we released our official tier list, we allowed the community to take a survey to see where they thought we went wrong or what should be changed. We had a great response from that survey and it looks like there are some creatures you thought should fall differently on the list. We won't re-list the entire tier list again since everyone mostly agreed with our findings. We will outline the Tyrant and Apex Tiers, however, since those had the closest votes for the most part.

Contested Creatures
After we have our initial vote, we pull the results and look more closely at the dinos that did not get a 65% majority vote. Those dinos would be considered "contested" and we would put them up for discussion. Then all 20+ people involved in the tier list would discuss why they thought dinos should be in a specific tier. According to the community, the following dinos would be on our "contested list" and would be up for discussion.
Contested Dinos | Gamepress 1.8 Tier | Community Tier | Next Highest Community Tier |
---|---|---|---|
Magnapyritor | Tyrant | Tyrant (59.7%) | High Apex (38.9%) |

Breaking down the Dinos
Based on the list above, we would normally put these up for discussion and spend a lot of time trying to figure out where they should go. Sometimes they stayed and sometimes they moved. Obviously we can't get all of you together to discuss all of them, but we will acknowledge that there are some dinos that you think need to be moved.
There was a lot of discussion about the number of Tyrant dinos we had in our list, but interestingly enough, the community thought 12 was okay. They just disagreed with 2 of the placements. Instead of Magnapyritor and Tenontorex, many people thought Procerathomimus and Quetzorion should be in that top tier. I think there are arguments for both and all 4 of these dinos were heavily discussed during the tier list process. We will be putting out our explanations on these dinos soon so keep an eye out for those! I can say that we are usually pretty conservative with new creatures like Quetzorion since most people have it at team level and can really judge it in the arena.
Another interesting dino on the list was Sarcorixis. It had already moved up based on our tier list, but 33% of the community thought it should have been moved up even further. This may or may not have anything to do with the article we put out about how Sarcorixis can beat Thor, but we like to think that is part of the reason. I personally love the idea of having another epic hybrid so high on the list since it's obtainable to players of many arenas. It's new kit is very effective in many situations and it proved to be an MVP in the recent lesser hybrids tournament. Ornithomimus was also surprising. While it was hit by the dodge mechanic nerf, we felt the immunity and distracting abilities could still make it viable in this meta. You as the community disagreed, however and many of you thought it should go down a tier.
What wasn't contested at all however was Trykosaurus. 99.3% of the community agreed it should be Tyrant so we definitely didn't go wrong with that one!
In Conclusion
Thank you to everyone that filled out the survey! We read all of your comments and take encouragement that you appreciate the work we are doing. We love hearing the opinions from our readers and discussions that come about based on our tier list. We will always keep you in mind as we are working on content and future lists. As we start looking forward to 1.9 and wondering what that will bring, we are excited to see how the meta shakes up again and what might change. Make sure to join our discord for more discussion!
