Dear Ludia: Another JWA Opinion Piece

Dear Ludia,

Hi, it’s me again. I know you haven’t heard from me in a while, but I have a very important question. Do you plan on having new dinosaurs to hunt in your dinosaur hunting game?

When Jurassic World Alive was first introduced it was meant to be compared to Pokemon Go (which was and still is highly successful). It has always been advertised as a mobile geolocation game where you must “go out in the world to catch dinosaurs”. That has always been the appeal of this game. The thrill of discovering a new creature. Hunting your ass off to level up that one creature on your team you’ve been working on forever. Unfortunately, the only thing to really hunt now is in the in-game store.

In the last community update, back in October 2022, you said “More creature rotations and exclusive creatures on the map: Antarctopelta or Brachiosaurus are good examples of exclusive creatures’ content that went wild, and we plan on including even more on the map! If you’re looking to strengthen your collection, we highly encourage you to go out and collect Creature’s DNA after update 2.19!”

Since October 2022, however, we have seen a grand total of 3 new creatures “on the map” and I use that term lightly. Those 3 new creatures are:

  • 1 unique (Dracovenator) that has a weekly limit of 1
  • 2 new Omega creatures (Stegouros and Diabloceratops) which are limited to 1 day and only 3 a week.

So again, I ask, do you plan on having new dinosaurs to hunt in your dinosaur hunting game? Where are all the creatures we were promised in the last community update? On that note, where is the latest community update telling us what we can expect for the rest of this year?

Stop putting limits on new creatures like the Omega. If they are so powerful that you must limit them that much, then maybe rethink that mechanic. This game rewarded hunting at one point. People would spend hours running scents and grinding out creatures. Then they would go kick butt in tournaments and in the arena with a team they worked for. Now, we barely have a reason to open the game to hunt. All players do now is pull out their credit cards to get the latest and greatest new creature. You don’t even try and hide it anymore. New, exclusive creatures are in the shop on Day 1. This puts an even bigger gap between players and resentment continues to grow.

This game is dying and will continue to do so if you keep this up. Get back to basics. Give us creatures to go for, rotate exclusive creatures into the wild, and add another zone so they aren’t so cluttered. Give us a reason to play your game because if you don’t then we won’t have a reason to stick around.
