Inside Jurassic World: The Exhibition

Introduction

I was so excited to get the opportunity to attend Jurassic World: The Exhibit a couple of weeks ago in Dallas, TX. I wanted to send a huge Thank You to Ludia and Universal Studios Interactive for providing free tickets to attend. I am a huge Jurassic Park nerd so getting the opportunity to see some animatronic creatures upfront and personal was right up my alley.

About the Exhibit

JURASSIC WORLD: THE EXHIBITION is an immersive 20,000-square-foot experience based on one of the biggest blockbusters in cinema history. Visitors will walk through the world-famous “Jurassic World” gates, encounter life-sized dinosaurs, and explore richly themed environments. Guests will have an upclose look at a Velociraptor, stand under a towering Brachiosaurus, and encounter the most fearsome of them all, the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex. Guests will be able to imagine what it would have been like to walk among these breathtaking creatures and even interact with new baby dinosaurs, including “Bumpy” from the popular animated Netflix original series, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, from Universal, DreamWorks Animation and Amblin Entertainment.

My Experience

When you first walk into the main exhibit the first thing you are greeted with is the iconic Jurrasic World doors and right behind those is a life-like animatronic Brachiosaurus. I knew the creature wasn't real but I felt like Ellie in Jurassic Park when she saw a dino for the first time. It was huge, very lifelike, and awe-inspiring. It was very reminiscent of the original movies which brought back the nostalgia of being a kid and watching them for the first time.

Brachi

The exhibit flows like a guided tour with stops in each "area". You go in small groups for space purposes but if you check it out, make sure you spend time at the sections where they aren't actively guiding you through. Especially the first few areas. There are tons of opportunities for pictures and to check out information about all of the creatures. In addition to the larger creatures, they also have puppets of baby dinosaurs. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take a selfie with Bumpy because who wouldn't want to take a picture with one of the cutest dinos out there?

The Incubation Room

After checking out Brachi and Bumpy, we moved into the "incubation" area where there were dino eggs and the cutest baby Sygimoloch you'll ever see up close.

The Raptors

The next room held the raptors. Like in the movie, their heads were held in a cage but their eyes and mouths moved in a very life-like manner. The entire raptor team (Echo, Charlie, and Delta) was present. Blue was absent but we got to see the opportunity to see her right after that.

Indominus Rex

After the raptors (with a special appearance by Blue), we were shown into the Indominus Rex enclosure. Being a movie hybrid it didn't feel as life-like as some of the other creatures, but the scale of the dinos is really amazing.

Gyrosphere and Pteranodon

Up next was more cute baby dinosaurs including my favorite creature in the game, a Pteranodon. We also got to see a life-size Gyrosphere. We didn't have much time in this area as we were quickly hustled into the final part of the "tour" featuring the Queen herself.

Rexy

The last part of the exhibit was by far my favorite. It featured Rexy in all her glory. She was big, she was mad and she was glorious. Just like the Brachiosaurus, I was pulled back when I watched Jurassic Park for the first time and saw Rexy for the first time. It was the most complete animatronic creature they had and she definitely didn't disappoint.

Parting Words

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Jurassic World: The Exhibition. It made me feel like a kid again and reminded me of my love of dinosaurs, which is what got me playing this game in the first place. Right now, the exhibit is in Dallas, TX but they will be moving to other locations throughout the US and North America. Those dates and locations will hopefully be released in the Fall according to a representative from BluSpark. If you do happen to be in the DFW area, however, I do encourage you to go check it out. You can find a link below for more information about the exhibit and to purchase tickets.
